Not only do all brick and mortar game stores and comic shops STILL have a community bulletin board, but so do Libraries and Colleges. Both of which are active ports for new players and people interested into the hobby. Especially since alot of these places now feature 3D printers that draw alot of veterans to these areas like moths to a flame.

There are few resources as good for finding new players that the Local Game Shop. I know not everyone has good experiences with their local shops, and that should not be ignored, but as a shop owner myself, and clearly a biased observer, shops that promote in store and local play tend to grow vibrant communities of gamers who are willing and eager to share. We also run an annual local convention in our small town, and TTRPGs are a becoming a signature event for us. Also, don't sleep on sharing a game on Free RPG Day/

@@StudioTembo you own a game shop?! Dude, plug it! Either in the comments or in the Description Box Down Below. I just had a conversation about the importance of having a "third place" (aside from work and home) for building a sense of community and belonging with MD about 4 months ago. For my wife and I, that became the Bear Tavern in the IPNW. In less than a year it has established itself as a hub for older kids, teens, and many adults as a safe place to go and hang out and do all sorts of nerd things all day. It helps that it is part of a co-op inside a building that features a grill/bar, coffee shop, and a toy store. Families and customers literally spend all day there. It has built a generational loyalty where grandparents, parents, and kids have become life long customers. Game shops and hobby stores can and should facilitate that sense of customer loyalty and pillar of the community status as an important feature. I know many nerds who travel hours (and across state lines) to a specific hobby store because of that sense of belonging. As JJ/MD mentioned, GenCon started as a group of friends and enthusiasts renting a hall, now it has become an international Mecca for people into rpgs to meet and discover new games and relationships. Tl;dr, Plug your shop Studio Tembo, you are more important to the nerd community then you may realize.

adventureink.xyz We are getting a new website and online shop in September!!! I'm getting close to finished with a long bunch of classes in October as well, and when I do, I'll be returning to do more shows on the channel here. I'll be plugging the shop more then.

I'll be playing with someone who uses hearing aids, this is on a stream so they have control over their environment. But he did mention that background music would be a problem for him when we were going through a quick pre game check on play needs and possible topics. I don't think this would have come up until after the game was running. when we went over violence level one of the players mentioned that they had up till now only played in games like Warhammer, so we were able to dial in expectations.

Listening to this a few days later On Free RPG Day Contact your local game store now and develop a relationship before the big day On different players, I had a deaf lady play once. It was challenging to try to stay facing her, when out of habit I try to look at all my players in the face My style? More cinematic while my co-gm is more tactical. We also try to check and balance each other. At cons, we rotate GM duties so we both get to play. I started running at cons because I saw the GM getting 8 or 10 players and while he would run, it had its own stress because of the numbers. I have run 10 players. Not easy. The players were not thrilled, but they were happy I tried to make the best out of a bad situation. On cons, I run in a few small cons in the South East. Maybe it's just those cons, but we can see the gaming industry changing On new players, we have modded the mission in a way where that new player gets to make the big play that brings success to the group. Oh, I listen to many of your videos to learn and expand my knowledge. Thanks

I am a big advocate for people contacting their FLGS and running games they want people to actually play on Free RPG Day! There MIGHT be more on this in a future episode!! I know that my shop Adventure Ink (adventureink.xyz) will be running a number of games, and is still looking for more GMs!!!

Ah! An adorable panel of introverts 😄, take notes between the low energy presenting JJ and the high energy MD. They might fool you into a false sense of social understanding. MD burns out in hours in an intimate group, while JJ can go all day. One hides from the group, the other within the group. Both are impossible to nail down for social events, but both can yap for days about a topic of interest - a totally scientific observation 🤓

You shouldn't to much trouble. Think about the Original series; Kirk, Spock, and McCoy make up the MAIN cast, and most or less everyone else COULD be supporting characters or NPCs.

Post results after the game here, I'm sure the GMs reading would help out with any concerns. Plus, a certain old GM of mine 😏, used to ask us after the game for our thoughts, opinions, and constructive criticisms to help out for future sessions. This went a long way to ensure a healthy group that allowed his table of regulars to flourish for over 30 years now.
