Here’s a new video that features over 10 minutes of power snatch action! It’s an analysis and breakdown of the power snatch filled with examples by some of the best athletes around, including Loredana “Tomanator” Toma, Harrison Maurus, Shi Zhiyong, Kuo Hsing-Chun, and more. And we get some insights from Harrison on how and why he uses the power snatch!
This video is a deep dive into one of the most explosive movements in all of sport. It covers the power snatch’s relation to the full snatch, tips for increasing carryover between the two lifts, insights from research on barbell velocity, and much more.
If you’re a coach or athlete looking to use the power snatch to increase results in the snatch or simply to develop explosiveness for other sports this video is perfect for you! Check it out and let us know what you think.
As always, thank you for your continued support. We hope you’re staying healthy!

In my opinion, What makes power variations a very powerful tool is that it forces the athlete to pull as fast as possible to elevate the bar as high as possible not needing to catch the bar in deep squat. Situation that does not occur when the athlete catch the bar deeply intentionally and not when it is done with the max loads that force the athlete to catch deeply. I hypothesise that it may enhance neuromuscular adaptations greater than if loads that could be lifted in a power style were lifted catching deep intentionally
@allthingsgym
@allthingsgym 3 жыл бұрын
Good point! This is probably part of the power snatch's effectiveness-as you note, you're not artificially cutting the pull short to catch the weight lower than is required. With heavier (maximal) weights you need to get into a deep bottom, but the power snatch helps you reinforce the aggressive pull that's necessary to give a top weight adequate velocity before pulling under.
@david.daarol
@david.daarol 3 жыл бұрын
@@allthingsgym exactly! And as we know from velocity based training research is that lifting at max intended velocity is superior than lifting at a controlled velocity in terms of neuromuscular adaptations. Although unfortunately the research in weightlifting is very scarce comparing differences between different training programs.

bar speed of Redon Manushi? I would like to know how much of his full snatch he could power, compared to some of the others in this video? nice video!
@allthingsgym
@allthingsgym 3 жыл бұрын
It looks like he's capable of power snatching about 86% of his best snatch (150/175), at least going off what he lists/posts on Instagram-but he also mentions he rarely does power snatch since it bothers his knees. No clue what the bar speed is, but that'd be interesting to know!

The, so called power snatch is just a snatch received at different heights. All snatches are power snatches. The higher snatches help the power snatch but it is equivalent otherwise.
