Smashing video. Several years back, moored up on a nice, peaceful canal bank for the night. All night long, noises I’d never heard down in deepest Dorset. Worse than a bunch of bullocks on Bournemouth beach on a Friday night. Lay awake all night long hearing these things moving off from a stop signal. Couldn’t wait to catch a glimpse of the mighty beasts through the hedgerow in the morning. The dogs enjoyed an extra early morning sniff along the towpath and I got the surprise of my life. It was love at first sight! They still get my heart racing. Cheers!

OMG. 2nd shot at Bentley Heath level crossing. I lived 5 minutes walk up hill! Many happy hours spotting on that bridge. I can remember Kings and Castles and then the Blue Pullman, Brush built Kestral, 9fs, std 4 tanks, oh joy! 4 track main line then of course, no trees just the back gardens towards Four Ashes Road bridge along side which my aunt and uncle lived. Thank for the memories!

Love the video and I have to say that I like the sounds from these locomotives. I wonder if GE could rebuild some Class 60's with their CPU's and power units and have new bogies for 75mph running. Being part of Wabtec, it would be easier to do now.

A Great video...the “American Class 58” by similar appearance. I do love the sound these things make when powering “flat out”..you can hear and feel that raw power 😎🤩👍🏽 We have a few Colas ones that hang around Cardiff and occasionally a Freightliner example will power through Newport to/from the Wentloog Freightliner terminal 😊

I don't understand why you see this class on certain works for months then they disappear.
@ejc71293 жыл бұрын
@@antman09ful1 I’m led to believe Reliability and availability of parts is a big factor in the availability of this class. Many went into store in 2019-2020 and were lined up in Midland Road (Leeds) waiting for parts to be shipped over from Pennsylvania so necessary remedial work could be undertaken. As the class are a very small, “UK unique” sub class of 19 Freight-liner loco’s (not including COLAS examples) I understand limited parts are kept/stored in the UK for them, so more complex parts/repairs require shipments from the USA.

I love the class 70, and I do like the odd one or two colas 70s in this video and in real life too! 70003 is a real claggy one! Put together really really well! @@antman09ful1 Exactly the reason why I like them, that is.
@josephinebennington72473 жыл бұрын
You do all know that the items in these containers never stop moving? They are simply transferred from a container ship to a container train, to a container lorry then taken to another rail,yard or port and sent out back on the container ship. They just go round and round and round and round and round as infinitum.
@antman09ful13 жыл бұрын
So there is nothing in them then ?
@dennisjohnstone4739 Жыл бұрын
It amazes me that British railways persist with chain and buffer coupling on the freight equipment. Just about every other railway system uses automatic coupling. I guess there's a good reason for this but I think it could be overridden by the advantages of automatic coupling.

Great video again Mike. Does anybody know the reason for this class being laid up in Leeds in recent years. It is claimed that these units are more fuel efficient than similar locos so it did not make too much sense unless it was for commercial reasons i.e. lack of business for the two operators?
@antman09ful13 жыл бұрын
I don't really know what the main reason was Brian, I read somewhere they were having problems with them but couldn't get the parts, but why wasn't Colas one's affected. ??? Thanks as always for your interest in my videos Mike.
@BJHolloway13 жыл бұрын
@@antman09ful1 Hi Mike maybe it’s as simple as Freightliner did not have the demand for their services. Spares I don‘t think would lead to mothballing them as they could raid the other lococs as is normal. Curious
