I have recently had my Prado start to delay/lose response when accelerating and also stalled while waiting in traffic. Hesitant to drive in peak hr now and also hesitant to take it back to same mechanic that changed the alternator and afterwards the fan belt started screaming. He said that noise was probably always there, I just couldn’t here cause of alternator problem 🤔 which I strongly disagreed. A noisy fan belt is not easily cancelled out. He changed the fan belt again only charging me parts but it’s began to squeal again. I’ve been through 4-5 different mechanics and nothing personal but they can be hard to trust.

I’m having the exact issue with my manual 120! Revs drop as well and it has stalled in neutral at the traffic lights. Have you found the cause for the loss of acceleration?

Thinking outside the box ABS/Traction control - does low range have the same issue? 2nd start? Is reverse an option to try? Different road speed to engine speed, process of elimination. May be nothing to do with it, but if it does change then it may help with locating the actual cause.

Quite interested to see how this pans out… This reminds me of an issue with the PCV I had that gave a similar feeling under acceleration sometimes. (Different make/model) I also had an oil sweat around the valve cover at the same time.

Thanks for sharing this problem with us. It has raised more questions than answers on how the vehicle operates. Good information for you to include in future videos. In a previous video your scan tool showed the throttle position sensor going from 40% to 80% when the vehicle played up. Is that 80% closed or open? The thottle plate closes to increase manifold vacuum so that the EGR gas is drawn into the engine. Correct? The EGR Valve is controlled by vacuum? Do all models have a vacuum pump or only models with a vacuum brake booster? The throttle position is a hall effect sensor not an actual potentiometer? The throttle body motor is not an actual motor? It has a constant 12v supply and a ground connection and the 3rd wire is connected to the engine ECM which controls the throttle position by a PWM signal. I can't find any information on how this system works. So many components working together, it is difficult to work out if the variation in throttle position is a cause or effect. The ECM is programmed to overcome glitches and doesn't always set a code. The only positive thing is you learn more from solving problems than thinking you understand how things work. The accelerator position and throttle position work directly link and opposite to each other if that makes sense

@@Fourby4Diesel Yep, understand that. The motor, which is controlled by the ECM drives the throttle plate and the position sensor reports the position back to the ECM. My understanding is that a diesel engine doesn't require a throttle, increasing fuel raises rpm. The thottle plate is there to increase manifold vacuum for the EGR system. You mentioned that in one of your videos. My understanding is that the EGR occurs at low engine rpm and light loading which it when the vehicle in question is playing up. The only 'clue' is the throttle position sensor reading varying at the same time.

That’s correct as explained in my playlist with all the EGR information videos the sole reason on a diesel engine the throttle plate is there is to cause the EGR system to follow the secondary reason is for a smooth shutdown nothing else Petrol Engine he’s completely different to diesel

Furthermore as per my explanations in the Egr videos it’s not just flowing under light conditions and light throttle quite moderate throttle have a look at those videos you’ll see what I mean

I once had problems with my nissan, it was the throttle position sensor and the pedal rubber stopper. It fix my car permanently 😁

I had a small crack in the water sensor on the bottom of the filter. Replaced it with a new one problem solved 😊

What shares power with the throttle body? Is it a dead solenoid or something shorted spiking the throttle?

The thottle position sensor has a 5v supply from the ECM. The motor part has a 12v supply. Both supplies are shared by other sensors or components. Like your thinking.

Hey mate I watch every time ur KZbin channel video thanks good job I have 2005 prado desiel recently I changed the redditor and thermostat due to heating problems but I have still a problem after I fix when I'm going to the Hill's the temperature is going hot 3 quarter but on hwy and freeway is normal only I'm having a problem when I push the car on hills and the temperature is rising if u can help plz I spand thousand $$$ but the problem not solve thank and appreciate mate

Do you use all genuine parts? Including oil and air filter? What about oils and coolant? Do you use the one sold by toyota?

Back to basics . Air fuel ign You said it. The weather has bean wet theirs probably water in. The fuel and it probably cuts out on the level and the run ok up and down mike lesmurdie. Mike

I had a vehicle that would stumble in its acceleration, especially when turning, and it turned out that the spark plug seals were bad, and oil was leaking onto them.

Clutching at straws here, cause I really want a prize, but could it be something as simple as a faulty key, or key battery? Has anyone tried a spare key? Loose fuse or fuse body? I dunno I give up...

Had a play with my 150 today. Engine still runs and revs up with throttle position sensor disconnected. Engine also runs and revs with throttle motor disconnected. Maybe throtle motor is intermittently closing throttle plate, which you have noticed on the throttle position sensor readings.

@@tom6549 You maybe right. I thought he cleaned the throttle position sensor and then replaced it from another vehicle. Not the whole throttle body.

Can the little rubber component in the sender unit cause stalling if it’s worn? The little breather underneath the j120 prado sender unit

@@Fourby4Diesel thanks for the reply. I have changed it. And the symptoms are a bit different here. While driving above 1500 rpm the vehicle is normal. Once I slow down engine check goes on and I cannot rev past 1300 rpm. If I restart the vehicle it’s normal again.

Update. Common Rail pressure limiting valve was leaking and causing a pressure loss. Not SCV.. thanks

Quite simply nothing made sense and that was because it had a faulty ECU had to be replaced with a new one

A new one and update is software is not a software problem it is a faulty ECU problem

@@Fourby4Diesel Prado cutting out . Your missed a comment And my prize. Theirs water in the fuel. When travelling steady and level it cuts out. The vehicle then tilts forward water flows forward fresh fuel enters you accelerate vehicle. Water flows rearward . You keep going as long as your going up hill or down hill then when you go steady and level. It cuts out. Fuel pressure is maintained. Thanks for your reply mike.
