The pistol that Price lays on Soap's chest is the same pistol that he slid over to Soap just as Imran Zakhaev was about to execute Price at the ending of MW!...It's the same pistol Soap returned to Captain Price when they rescued him from the Gulag in MW2! It's sad to think it probably ended up in the hands of some scumbag Russian after they stormed the position. Soap's body also stayed behind :(

Soap died because his old wound has opened and didn't get treated immediately. Reopened wounds are worse than being wounded the first time. That's why despite being in the same place, experiencing the same explosion, Yuri only got minor injuries and Soap dead.

The explosion from the C4 in the tower is what ensured Soap's death even without the stab wound. Thats thousands of pieces of shrapnel and debris piercing the body at high rates of speed. Yuri survived only because Soap pushed him out of the tower at the last possible moment.

What I noticed is that this mission is much better and sadder to the one in the new MW III. Price actually freaks out due to soap's death but in the new game he doesn't freak out as much. Price really cares about soap in this mission as Soap has been with price for the longest of times.

InfinityWard forgot what made the old trilogy such a loved part of Call of Duty. It wasn't the realism, it was the characters, the story, the gameplay of all the modes combined across multiplayer, campaign and the special ops. Survival was also an amazing addition to the original trilogy.

What really adds to the emotion of this is price calling Soap "son". Like me hearing that at the end during soaps death REALLY broke me. They were very close friends that grew a strong bond that resembles a father-son relationship. And this level really shows it. Will never forget how much this game hurt me back in 2011. Something that bugs me about games nowadays, that I appreciate about these games was the weight of these main characters deaths, from gaz and griggs, to roach and ghost, to finally Soap an Yuri. I feel new games aren’t brave enough to take the risks of killing main characters and have that emotion of losing these characters we’ve been with from the start of the story. In my opinion cod nowadays keeps these characters alive to profit more off of them in terms of micro transactions and stuff of that sort, but what do I know im jus a geek who loves video games

Tensions were already high between Russia and the US by that point. The Russian Ultranationalists had been stirring the pot, and the No Russian mission was the spark that led to all out war. Of course there were probably people investigating what happened, and diplomats were trying to go crazy trying to resolve things peacefully, but at that point, Russia herself was out for blood and it lashed out in warfare against who she thought was behind those attacks (America)
