Most of the game's problems are due to the fact that the development team does not play ED. I don't want to offend any of them, but guys, if you want your work to work out well, you need to constantly check what you are doing. Then there won’t be years of uncorrected errors, bugs and unsuccessful ship fits that we see now. A T6 mining ship without an asteroid ring scanner, how can a newbie know where to look for treasure? I won't spend money on pre-built ships because I think I can prepare the ship better.

You just nailed it! They do not play their own game. At the beginning they used to do it, and for some reason just stopped. Doom Eternal game director used to play and stream his game play every Thursday during all the game heat time, and only now after the game gave everything, they moved on for new projects, with a still happy and committed player base. ED has much more potential than any shooter, even after a decade, but FDEV just ignore it.

I mean, a power hungry Pulse Wave Analyser on a power starved Laser mining ship? At least they fitted an actual 1A prospector, rather than relying on a C or E rated prospector in a multi-limpet controller. *8')

One minor change to your proposed starter build would be to drop the enhanced xeno scanner for a second caustic sink unit. Thoughts behind this proposal would be equipped with a nanite torpedo package the pilot will be going after a titan, the only use for a enhanced xeno scanner in the maelstrom would be to scan the vessel that's going to kill you, wheras an extra caustic sink unit should at least get the ship to the titan and possibly have enough sinks (combined) to get the ship out again. But you are so right encouragement with the chance of survival, not encouragement to be put off straight away should be the name of the game here. 07 CMDR.

You need the scanner though to fend off interceptors in TitanSpace - without it, the MCs cannot hit hearts.

@@Astyrrean I disagree, I don't think fighting interceptors in the Titan zone is a good idea. I think the machine guns are here to get rid of the scouts and they don't need a scanner.

Huh... Something I learned that I had no idea about: military slot modules take damage last. I think I might have some module rearranging to do in some ships...

MRPs specifically. But, yes, they do - in ships that were retrofitted with military slots. I think there's a couple of "newer" ships which came originally with military slots where this rule doesn't apply. But the Chieftain isn't one of them.

To be honest, I'm amazed they didn't approach AXI for a starter build recommendation in the first place. The build above would actually stand a chance of not instantly going boom. As it's likely to be flown by a new player with no tactics, they won't last long, but at last they'll see the elephant and hopefully enjoy it enough to try again (and then again and so on).

What if... We could just sell ships that we build and outfit.. from our carriers.. with a shipyard package.. to other players... I could think of many, many ways fdev could tie arks, credit sinks, and community driven content generation into that process..

New players complain about the grind to get to this point in the game but will buy this and complain they can’t stay alive or kill interceptors. Goids are supposed to be end game content. You have to work to get to this point. The only thing good on this build is the thrusters.

The pre-build ships are what NPCs use. The Chieftan is what AX NPCs in CZs use. The Type 6 laser miner is what you see in RES zone getting harrassed by pirates.

A long time ago you explained to me that combat slots are the last to be destroyed. I was thinking about it and remembered (if I remember well) module protection was introduced into the game together with combat slots. Or maybe we still do not know more precisely the formulas of the game and just the protection of modules should be placed in combat slots ? Yes, we reduce the overall hull defense, but get a guaranteed 94% protection for all modules ? I'm not saying I'm right, but I like to calculate more options.

On most ships (notably the ones which had military slots “refitted” to them), MRPs place in military slots take damage last. And since those tend to be comparatively large slots (usually C4 or C5) that is highly undesirable for MRPs (you want your largest MRP to take damage FIRST.)

@@Astyrrean Thank you for your reply, but you didn't quite get my point. You explained the mechanics to me last time and I understood. Thank you. But I think there is some trickery on the part of the developers. Why would I place hull reinforcements in combat slots that are destroyed last, and hull reinforcements themselves have no durability? In this Leader I swapped all the hull and module boosters, I got 1134 hulls vs the old 1494, but until I have the last module destroyed I will always have 94% defense. Thanks for the reply, but I think I should test this more accurately.

release a prebuild payed ship, a new player buys it thinking he wil be able to get revenge on those thargoids that killed him a bunch of times, only to find out hes getting shredded... thank god i found this channel before are the prebuilds got released. im on the last bits of finishing my spire conda ( a build that you released mechan) just need some more engineering materials wich i should be able to finish by saturday evening. cant wait to test out that conda in a spire, and ill make sure to ask on discord if anyone is willing to take a newbie into a spire run. even if it is to serve as cannon fodder, i dont care, i just dont want to leech, but contribute to getting the kills.

Enjoy. Just know if you get hit by an AGF, just repair all your guns to 1-5% integrity and you’re good to go. You don’t need to repair them back to 100% - at most one will malfunction at a time anyway.

What seems to be the problem, Commander? Lack of ideas, experience or a lack of materials (engineering)? There are a lot of guides out there, but they often do not tell you how to use them in detail. There is a lot of trail and error, but I like this. ^^

I am fine with this the general idea of pre-build ships. Unless they are heavily engineered and/or are tooo ineffective. I think FDev should go into the direction suggested by CMDR Mechan, but not overdo it. This should also be a starting point for engineering, methinks. ;) o7

I agree. Which is why all I’ve done is change (unengineered) parts around, add a G3 to the powerplant, three G1 engineered beams, and that’s it!

The FDEV build has NO engineering on the powerplant. I am suggesting it would ideally have G5 Low Emissions / Thermal Spread or, at the very least, G3.

Looks good. Maybe move the cargo rack to the class 4 slot and make it corrosive resistant and then make that mod reinforcement a CL5 in the top slot...since this is a pre-engineered build sold as-is, they can choose to include the special cargo rack for more utility. If someone wants to trade the CL1 mod reinforce for a research limpet they can but they are giving up resistance to module damage and this shouldn't be default IMO Thanks for helping Frontier create a proper build that doesn't get new players waxed the moment they get close to a Titan!

This is a decent tweak ... and one that gets more to the realm of personal preference (vs being outright broken like the original build.) Personally, I'll take 64 limpets into a Maelstrom. You can't repair there. And you'll be hit often (which kills limpets.) Take the limpets. :)

@@Astyrrean I guess you're right. There is quite a difference between solo and wing bombing runs. In solo, I rarely use 8 limpets and that is only because scouts that spawn by the core started attacking recently.

It's not a build they're selling. It's a starting point in which the player is encouraged to modify themselves. It's just to give the player a head start.

Yes but it’s a terrible starting point. Build errors left and right. A starter build is fine, but a starter build that will get CMDRs instantly killed isn’t ok.

@@nuggytube Fdev advertised it as a way for new players to skip some of the grind and get a taste of different types of content. If that taste is terrible and they get instakilled, that will turn people off.

The pre-builds will never have a rebuy unless you change the loadout. It's meant for repetitive fail attempts at little cost.

I have found that ship temps in the Titan area do not need to be low to avoid getting shredded. I regularly run a shieldless FDL on Titan bombing runs, it sits at 23% when idle and waiting for the vents to open, and goes way over 40% heat during boosts to get round the vents. Hitting the core with missles is the only time i use a heatsink and that is because the ship gets well above 100% heat if I don't. I run out of ammo long before I run out of hull 👍

I'm surprised your titan cannons aren't firing on you. But I think you are playing a single-player game, in it at the first approach there are few enemies and danger, but as you get there the number of enemies and danger increases.

The real advantage of the 'build' is that it gives them basically everything they need to do...anything. Especially the G5 Engines. They'll need to change it to make it work for anything in particular, but they've got all the tools. Honestly, I'm glad it's not a completely braindead meta build. People at least have to think things through a bit.

I would do it this way (maybe someone is interested) 1. Beam = long range and thermal vent (5 nuts) 2. power = Low-radiation + monstration (5) 3. thrusters = clean + acceleration (5) 4. AFMU - 2B 5. FSD - off Thermo = 17, speed = 495, power = 99.2%

Yeah so I think the thing is this is supposed to be a hook to help them along. Not a "ready set go murder titan stuffs" build it's a jump start not the intended end product. Though a breakdown of the ship demonstrating how bad it is is great counter to the p2w claims

You know, its almost as if its a starter build and not meant to be the best. I get you want to buy a perfect ship, but a shortcut like that hurts your enjoyment in the long run. As someone who did the Guardian grind and did AX for a while, I think the ship is good for a starter build to really get into things and improve upon them.

Honestly, you can build a good non engineered AX ship out of the DBX with hull and mod reinforcements and AX Multicannons. It's mostly only good for Scouts, but it's a great, cheap place to start with a very inexpensive rebuy.
