I'm glad to see you've come back to the LP after seeing all it has been through. My grandmother would probably say you've done enough, but to me this job is a learning experience. Like last time, I am still liking what you've done and enjoying the journey, but watching your thought process has been the most fun. When you became a father, I was always interested in how you'd schedule your time to finish the project...you've done a good job! I remember my own personal reorganization after my first daughter. 😊

Thank you. I’m doing what I can, but last year ended up being one of my busiest yet at work as well, so that makes it tough to find time for side projects like this.

welcome back mate and i love the blue! it definitely brings out the chatoyant effect. and you now me i love a oil finish over anything ( nitro is a close second ) oil finishing is great for the home builder as you dont need complicated spray guns and a clean and ventilated area..... love it

Lovely brother. I also love the MGW oil but if you want to buff oil, Use OSMO Poly-x Gloss! My favorite to get "high gloss" with oil. For satin, Steve's stuff works awesome. Great video brother, as always!✌️&💙

Hey, Brad. Congrats on the recent move, and belated congrats on the new addition to the family. Didn't realize until now that you're a fellow YEG'r (go Oilers!). Been learning lots from your content - almost finished my first build from SOLO, and let me tell you this is learning experience! Looking forward to your upcoming in-person workshops, that I am paying for... ;-).

I really like the figure and grain pattern in both the front and back of this guitar. The top has some amazing figure that show up pretty well with the die. For me as well I like the satin finish better. Many times the high gloss seems to hide the grain and figure of the wood on finishes that still show the grain and figure. If the guitar has a paint finish that covers the grain and figure it doesn't matter so much. High gloss is fine and probably preferred with a full cover paint finish. That's my 2 cents worth.

Yeah I don’t mind full gloss on an opaque finish. Not so much on something like this though.

Wow it turned out really nice Brad. It will really show when you get it all together with the pickups and all. It would have looked nice too if you had the front just like the back, but I know you have a few like that. I need to look into doing these oil finishes, I'm a spray paint guy mostly, but I have used brushed on poly, which did turn out nice. I use your little tricks and things all the time and it has always come with good results. I'm still chicken when it comes to spraying with 2 cans of clear like you did, but eventually I will. Thanks for all you do, and best wishes for you and family. Some people don't realize how life changing having a child is, but I wouldn't change it for the world. Enjoy every minute of it, they grow up so fast.

Nice guitar and I agree if you like it that's all that matters. Hoping to start my quilted maple from coban guitars this month, so much going on, I want it white so going to black it then try white to bring out the veneer but if that doe not work...it's going red lol

@BradAngove sorry I'm late replying, banned for a day lol.....I have bought some wood stain for the quilt, I'm applying ebony first then sanding it back then I'm going to use some white stain over the top, fingers crossed that works then I have white nitro paint for the rest of the body (hand painting ad I have no spray facilities) fingers crossed it works I have all my parts for the build but trying to get the time to do it. Always wanted a quilted guitar and white.

Great colour. I think you should review the video frame-by-frame though in a short section where you're moving, because as far as I can tell you've got some framerate conflict going on and your (or YT's) editing tool is set to interpolate. This results in some frames being unnecessarily fuzzy, which has a negative effect on perceived quality.

Thanks Stuart. I didn’t realize that; I’ll have to check into it.

I stand corrected.. i was in favor of the black and sand back.. but she looks great in a different vibe.. the blue is still growing on me.. but does the carpet match the drapes here??? .. the headstock still looked a bit amber to me?.. or did my eyesight get worse since we last saw this project??.. all joking aside.. it looks great.. nice job.. love the spalted back with amber as well.. and really nice top.. how durable is the Odies Oil.. say you drop a cable on the top? will it ding like bare wood?..
@BradAngove
@BradAngove 4 ай бұрын
I don’t think there’s any amber on the headstock, but it might be a touch more green than the body at this point. Odies doesn’t have any real impact protection if that’s what you’re looking for. It won’t crack like lacquer might, but it won’t offer that durable protection that you would get from something like a poly.

Why don't you spray a sealer over the stain so the stain can't be affected when putting the Oil on?
@BradAngove
@BradAngove 4 ай бұрын
That’s an option as well. There’s nothing prevent you from doing so.
@paulhudson2293

Why would you use a very mildly abrasive pad to apply to oil, rather than something like a lint free or paper towel? It looks like that pad is like the rough side of a sponge, so doesn't that scuff the surface?
@BradAngove
@BradAngove 4 ай бұрын
This one isn’t abrasive enough to scuff the surface. The green ones on the sponges would scratch it though. This helps work the oil into the wood. It’s what Odies oil recommends, but using a cloth is also an option. One of the nice things about these pads is they don’t really absorb oil, so they limit wasted material.

The color looks great! 'Just curious as to why you didn't go with some kind of top binding to set it off from the sides and back. 'Looks a bit "unfinished" to me but that's just me. 😀

@BradAngove What about natural scraped wood binding ala PRS?
@BradAngove

Yeah I’m fond of those. That’s why I have the natural edge of the maple cap on this one. Same concept, just from the side rather than the top as well.

Hi bro. I have an Epiphone Prophecy with an aged gloss finish (it looks satin to me), but I want to make it gloss. Any advice or procedure that you can recommend?

You can probably just polish it up to full gloss using some compound and then some polish.

Hey bud, I have a question on a finishing technique I've seen, and I need to be able to pull off to do my project guitar. I'm wanting to do a Bengal finish on an old Charvel of mine that was bought to do a project on because its a shade of Red I just dont dig. My Question is...When I look at a Bengal paintjob of any coloration, part of the Look, is the fade between the color layers. I've seen clips of the entire process, but, No One says whats happening there, or, whats being used to Wipe away Some paint, but not all, and not the layer beneath. I'm using Duplicolor cans, Acrylic Lacquer. I'm having some surprising success so far on the builds I'm on. Even have the Dupli Clear working out ok by baking the body in the sunshine to de-gas and harden it up. What would I use? Should I cover the lower layer with a pass of clear? If its thinners, should it be diluted with something? Is Isopropanol used on this paint? Sorry to bangout a big question, but, I'm about to strip the body, and get that first pass of color on, and just wanted to see if you had ever Wiped back a color before. Thanks from the West coast for the wisdoms, youre really supportive of the community.
@BradAngove
@BradAngove 3 ай бұрын
Just so I know what you’re referring to, the bengal paint job is like the tiger striped one with a fade right? Have you seen my video on how to paint a burst with spray cans? That might be helpful. Look at the newer one though; the older video isnt very good.
