A lesson that basically all other hosts should learn... I wonder why those others don't get it that we clicked on the video because of the name in the title... That guy from "What Bitcoin Did" is horrible at this, constantly putting words in the host's mouth by talking and stating a lot of things, then he asks "do you agree" and out of politeness they normally do; very few open ended questions there.

I understand 70% of what MS says, but that’s up from 20% four months ago. I’ve listened hard to MS (and a few others) and made a ton of money in a short time by extrapolating and applying what he says about BTC and smart business decisions to personal finance. Learning a system of arbitrage from him, we (1) took out a HELOC on our house and dumped it into BTC and (2) pay for the HELOC from a retirement account. That was scary and really hard for the wife to swallow. But, KNOWLEDGE is the antidote to fear and we pulled the trigger. We’ve made just under 60K in four months. Listen to this sage!!

Yeah, simple as that from our initial $120K. Of course, everything will rise and fall depending on the market. Cardano generally out performs BTC short term and seems staged to rise 3-4X by end of year. So, our strategy now is to put money there, ride it up, and roll it into BTC. This would end our journey for acquiring BTC. (Getting all we can while we can)

Around 35:00 Mr. Saylor starts talking about a currency strategy where you keep most of your liquid capital in Bitcoin, but set aside some in your country’s currency for day-to-day transactions. How does this work when say the US government charges you 15% capital gains plus the exchange fees plus the Bitcoin network fee? It makes no sense to lose $175 for a $1000 transaction.
@thefilmpoets3 жыл бұрын
Capital gains only applies to gains, so you wouldn’t pay unless you had gains. Secondly, you’d take your income and keep 10% in cash as operating capital, no expenses as it never touch’s the network.

Yea Saylor would say (Im surprised if he didnt) to borrow against your BTC, like "property in Manhatten" as he would usually say. You simply never sell it. Off topic a little, shorting the dollar by doing this is what rich people have been doing forever, and now that BTC and defi is allowing this sort of thing for regular citizens, this is exactly why Yellen et al is talking about UNrealized cap gain taxes... dubious it will happen quite like that, but they'll find something

The price of Bitcoin, like stock indexes, correlates 90% or greater to the acceleration of bank Bitcoin margin loan credit. The instant bank Bitcoin margin loan credit goes negative, prices tumble. It’s a pure quantity of money phenomenon.

This video is even more interesting for me, because I remember when Saylor traded his bitcoin for Ethereum after the upheaval, when ethereum's market cap and annual earnings topped bitcoins. It happens in 2022, and everyone gives him shit for it after, but he's a smart guy for doing that.
@skysurfer3 жыл бұрын
Help me out here. 38:25 I've heard Michael describe this a few times and I'm still not getting it. I understand it's a collateralized loan, and I understand the ratio of my expenses to the appreciation of bitcoin. What I'm not grasping is how you pay the loan back. Do you pay it with the part of your bitcoin that appreciated? I've also heard that you can simply keep refinancing the loan and you'd include the part you owe in the refi. The loan eventually has to be paid, so how does this work?
@tonywong68843 жыл бұрын
My understanding of Saylor's argument is that your btc holding will appreciate at a higher rate than the interest on the loan. The rationale for not borrowing more than 10% is to withstand the swings in price so that your loan doesn't get called and wipe out your BTC. For example let's say you had $100 of BTC and you borrowed $10 to cover your cost of living in January. Theoretically by the time you needed to repay that $10 your $100 of BTC would be worth at least $120+ allowing you to repay the loan and still be left with a buffer. The critical assumption is that BTC doesn't drop more than 80% in price. Hope this helps👍
@skysurfer3 жыл бұрын
@@tonywong6884 I may be overthinking this (happens often). What I have been hung up on is when he says "you never need to sell your bitcoin". Perhaps what he really means is that you never have to decrease the value of your investment because you'd only be selling the amount that appreciated and was needed for the loan payment. At the end of the day you'd be left with less bitcoin, but the dollar value would be the same or higher.
@overbuiltlimited3 жыл бұрын
I’ve thought about this as well over the past months. It comes down to having an income stream of some kind to make the payments on the loan and still have enough left over to maintain your lifestyle. Where that income stream comes from is going to differ from person to person. Rental property, pension, dividends, job, business, interest from other Bitcoin that you loaned out, etc. As the loan matures presumably, one could get a second loan and pay off the first loan, thereby rolling the debt to the second loan. Rinse and repeat never having to pay taxes on the loan. The people that own large businesses like Saylor and other very wealthy individuals are used to living off their debt. They don’t see it as something to pay off but as a running expense. Of course the more wealth you have the easier all this is to pull off. That’s my take.

Logically, Saylor is correct. But, if you live in a developed countries, like USA, United Kingdom or Canada, no one will cease your property, if you are law obiding citizen!!! LoL As far as cryptocurrency is concerned. Electrical malfunctions, losing public & Private keys, could be detrimental. Storage of bitcoin, is problematic! Wallets, are not trust worthy. Lose your password, and you Lost it all. What if, Servers, storing coins, will deprive an access to your account. LoL Who will support bitcoin, after 21,000,000 coins are mined? The Land, in Manhattan, on which building stands, worth more than building itself. Moreover, not everyone will be able to acquire bitcoin, at the price level, now, late October 2021 price, $66,000 or even higher in the future. Low income people will need to use fiat currency. It must be balanced. Criptocurencies, of course, will flourish in the future due to the mind set. Therefore, It is time to accumulate it. Due to block chain technology. Buying Crypto today, is like buying land in Manhattan, 200 years ago. No one knows its future. Yet, it worth, taking a chance.
