Ange may get a lot of criticism, but he's willing to be creative and put in the work to make Brennan Johnson, a player with many limitations, consistently effective. Kulu gives thrust by making runs ahead of Johnson from that RAM position, meaning Johnson can come inside and doesn't have to be stuck to the touchline where his poor ball carrying is in focus.

I described him as a kind of "target man winger" a while back for us... When we were pinned back in games with Conte we could give him the ball and he could calm the game down, get us up the pitch and wait for support, but he never had the pace or confidence on his weak foot to really kick on as a RW in my opinion. He's always been a number 8 in my mind, because he's got the legs to get up and down, he's big and strong, his pace is good for that part of the pitch, he's technically excellent and he's way more unpredictable with the ball without a touchline limiting his movements. I'm dead smug he's working out as an CM these days 😂

Kulu best way of playing is not having to think about what to do. When he was out wide he would often get the ball then think of all the things he had to do an passed it back. He never felt he was a true winger. In the central role he has less thinking time. He is now scanning everything as he has more room. Not saying he is any near the level but Kulu has a role like Messi. Messi was on the left then middle then both. He would have the freedom to go where he thinks he will effect the game. Again IM NOT SAYING KULU PLAYS LIKE MESSI. I'm saying its the same type of role they have.
