For anyone who doesn't know this music video is a homage to the 1979 Russian animated film "Tale of Tales". It is widely considered the greatest animated film of all time. Was super excited to see the presets use this film as their inspiration.

I couldn't agree more. It's absolute genius and marked the beginning of an era that has since been obscured. But the sound was so fresh then. So unlike anything being played at the time and a perfect pop song too.

Few songs make me cry, and this is one of them. I remember listening to the song/ watching this music video in my early 20s and was just captivated. I am so moved by this song's message that it brings me to tears every time. I need to add that the director of this video is a true artist. The wolf sitting next to a dwindling fire at the end really shows the pain he's feeling when the girl leaves him.

Man, I remember driving all around Massachusetts back in like 2005/06 trying to find a CD store that had the "Beams" album..... I saw the video for "Are You The One?" on MTV one night as a young teenager and was instantly a fan, then I started collecting whatever of their music I could fine. Eventually I found the album at a Strawberry's store in Natick if I remember correctly. I played the SHIT out of that CD. Now I look back on those days that I hated in the moment, full of teenage anxt and naivety, and I miss them like an old friend. It's hard to believe that was my life..... actually, it's hard to believe anything existed before 2020.

The girl was born a mermaid- meant to live a different life than most. She could hide her secret but at the end, that was who she was meant to be. The wolf was her protector, her family, who raised her unconditionally and understood she was different. At some point she leaves him to explore, he is sad and understandably feels betrayed. He rips off his own tail, a piece of himself to throw into the water. It is not lost however, she finds it and at the end as winter is coming she emerges from the water. The apples are no longer rotten and wormy- they are new and shiny. I feel this is a metaphor of the unconditional love between a parent and a child.

I gave this LP called 'Beams' by The Presets to my then friend of 15 years (her name Sarah) as a Birthday present, and she roundly dismissed it like I had stepped on her cat. She was the only person I thought would like this album, however, I was incorrect to the nth degree. She loves Goldfrapp and Morrissey and the like, so, I thought maybe this would be good for her...oh well... Anyway, I quite like the nuance and atmosphere of the tracks themselves...and especially the quality of the melody and lyrics. Such a richly textured and vibrant use of both. Cheers to the PRESETS!
