I've been playing drums for 40+ years. I have worked as an audio engineer, I write music and lyrics, have produced records. You have put all the right advice into this, you point to the things that actually matter, both in terms of drumming but also the arranging, how to make THE MUSIC work. I really enjoy drum tutorials that aren't just about the drumming but rather talk about how to actually be a musician playing music, how to work together in a team on a common workpiece. This is one of these videos. Thank you very much!

Emma, there are a ton of drumming videos on KZbin. I subscribed because you are so great at getting directly to the point while outlining the pitfalls as you go. Thanks for an awesome channel and for re-igniting my love for drumming! Seriously, 100% top-notch. Keep killing it, you make me think I can kill it too.

Fantastic tutorial! How you play is as important as what you play so I love how much you addressed that. I’d love to see a video like this for All My Life. The drum groove on the bridge of that song is so rad

Amazing video! I've recently discovered your channels and am very grateful for such thorough videos (especially for reference). Despite having played drums for over 10 years - small concepts and techniques as shown in your videos are *always* relevant to even "refresh oneself with". Added to that - I wish to compliment your "on-camera" presence as you seem exceptionally comfortable teaching music (and to have it translate through video "says something" to me about your skill as a teacher). From my experience (even recently) - some other great songs to try for these techniques could include: "Good Grief" - Foo Fighters (Self-Titled Album - also with Dave doing the ridiculously aggressive drumming!) "Immigrant Song" - Led Zeppelin (Led Zeppelin III - of course I'm sure everyone thinks of "this song" or whatever personal equivalent for "proving to yourself that you have foot speed and foot stamina" haha) Lastly, and to my (very pleasant) surprise - "Old Brown Shoe" - The Beatles (The Beatles 1967-1970 - THIS SONG!!! Wow - apparently Ringo was saving his hidden strength and stamina for "the one Beatles song he was allowed to play like that on", haha - but truly, this song not only requires massive leg and foot stamina in the chorus, but your arms will feel sore from the entire song and what he's playing on the hi-hat, snare, and sometimes floor toms!) I'm super grateful that videos and creators like yourself exist and help promote such incredible information and knowledge about technique and theory. Thank you so much even for this single video! I hope you have a blast (beat) of a day! P.S. - If you love the "heel-toe" technique - firstly, I envy you for having feet small enough to achieve it more easily, hahaha! And secondly, the ultimate "I've mastered heel-toe" feeling is successfully playing "literally anything" by Zach Hill, who I believe is, without hesitation, my favourite drummer and an all-time inspiration! (Also I apologize if you've either heard people rave about Zach Hill too much already, and/or if you've never heard his music before and it only "scares you", haha /s)

I love slide bass pedal technique!! It’s just like trying to do an Ollie on a skateboard! I try to use the example of letting the stick bounce is very similar to letting the pedal bounce. You’re catching it on the rebound of the stick and catching it on the rebound of the pedal too. I’ve been playing drums for over 20 years and have been teaching drum lessons for about five years now. But I still watch your videos because you make your lessons, so smooth and easy to understand. Keep up the amazing work.!!

Hi Emma, as a recent subscriber I have to say I love your videos. You have an incredibly engaging and clear way of explaining songs and techniques which is really helpful. If I may, I'd like to offer two suggestions. 1- in videos like this it would be a nice touch and very helpful if you could tell us what BPM the actual song is in. 2- When you mention a previous video you've done on a subject it would be great if you could put a link up on-screen. Just some suggestions. Thanks for all the hard work you put into creating the videos and your generosity in sharing your talent. Best of luck with the channel.👍👏

First off, let me say, I absolutely love your videos. That being said, I like the look and sound of the videos that appear like you did them in your garage, next to the washing machine; or maybe the mini fridge. The mix in those videos is a lot better. Those videos seem warmer and friendlier; like you dropped by my house to show me something cool. This video, looks like somebody is managing you, and is trying to "improve" an already great product. If you continue with the DW kit, I recommend dumping that 58 mike and use a 57; the mix in this video is thin. If this had been the first video I had seen of you, I would have never followed you. Sorry I'm so critical. Bring back the enthusiastic "girl next door", who comes by to show me the latest cool drum lick.

do you have vid or can you make a vid on how to get a faster kick drum? The fastest I can use my kick drum in time is about 100bpm and that is with my heel up. My drum teacher uses a sort of swivel technique so can you do a vid on like how to properly use the kick drum and play it fast?

Heel toe i stumbled on one night. 230 am practicing and made a mistake. Ok not a mistake. Just not what i intended. But what i did sounded light years beyond where i was as a drummer. So i spent the next 20 minutes figuring out what i did. Then the next 6 hrs burn muscle memory into my body. Did i mention im an animal when it comes to drums? My calf muscle hurt for 3 days after. But i had something i could blast out in a whim. Ok i over played it in fills doing hyper triplets and quads.

I tell ya 4 all u new / intermediate drummers. Petals matter! I had a ok pearl. Recently I bought DW 5000 (I think she's using 1). My god the difference it's night and day! Yes i spent $500 on 1. I'm also in a band gigging 3-5xs a month. Money well spent. I'm using less energy and got a lil more speed.

@@hazardeur That's where the term heel toe is misleading. Executed properly you don't actually use your heel mainly the ball of your foot. Any foot size, any shoe or bare foot any pedal it can be done. As with everything it's ALL ABOUT CORRECT TECHNIQUE!

@hazardeur 8 ай бұрын
not really true in all situations. the slower you go, the less that ball-of-your-feet pivorting is true. ever tried to play 130 bpm 16ths with heel toe? yeah. your heel will be used. at least if you want to have the tiniest bit of control and volume @@benking9160
