LYRICS
Jenny died of suicide with a candle burning in her eye
But on my tombstone when I go
Just put death by rock n roll
John forgot what he was on so he broke the needle dead and gone
But on my tombstone when I go
Just put death by rock n roll
I wanna go with a shotgun blast
I wanna go with a woman on her back
I want to go with balls I won’t pray
I want to go with this bottle in my veins
I want to go I want to go I want to go out my way
Amy shot and killed a man with a gun too heavy in her hand
But on my tombstone when I go
Just put death by rock n roll
Janey had steel in her bones but she burned away a blood into Stone
But on my tombstone when I go
Just put death by rock n roll
I want to go with a shotgun blast
I want to go with a woman on her back
I want to go with this sickness in my throat
I want to go killed by rock ‘n’ roll I wanna
I want to go I want to go I want to go out my way
I want to go with a shotgun blast
I want to go with in a motorcycle crash
Out on my own, I don’t need to be saved
I want to go out my way
But on my tombstone when I go
Just put death by rock n roll

She lost many people close to her at short intervals. Probably the most traumatic was the death of the producer who was with her from the very beginning (died in a motorcycle crash). A little more and she would have become part of the 27 club, but no. The footsteps at the beginning of the song are an old recording of the producer's footsteps. "I Wanna go out my way" is like a message to the world. She didn't gave up, she keeps going. The phrase "dead by Rock and roll" also belonged to the producer A sad story, an incredibly wonderful song.

(fun facts) Jenny is her last film/TV role. Jenny's suicide may be a metaphor for the end of a screen career Other names in the song belong to rockers who died early "I wanna go with a woman on her back" may confirm theories about her bisexuality

This is real rock with real vocals unlike most new music from new bands on modern rock radio. Most of these new so called rock bands sound more pop, rap and hip hop than rock and just like a majority of pop, rap and hip hop these so called rock bands overuse this autotune technology probably because their natural singing voice sucks. Taylor Momson is a real vocalist and Pretty Reckless is a real rock band.

Hello Upper East siders Anyone know where jenny Humphrey has been? Rumor has it Jenny Died of suicide She had a candle still burning in her eye We hear that she wanted "Death by rock and roll" on her tombstone XoXo Gossip Girl

Browless D.O Don’t make it seem as if Taylor thought working on GG was that bad. Yes she wasn’t feeling it anymore but she asked to be written off the show and they let her. 🚨 !! “Jenny died of suicide” is NOT about Jenny Humphrey from Gossip Girl !! 🚨 let me explain I actually had a comment going into mass detail about this, and other facts about this song, back in June 2020, but it’s deleted now :( so let me re-explain the Jenny stuff. Short version: • This song is an old ‘FAMOUS’ demo from 2005. • The line was written by Ben, and not Taylor. • There’s audio of the original song out there where you can hear Ben sing the line, “Jenny died of suicide”. Long version (it goes into a LOT of detail): So, so many people think that the opening line is about Taylor Momsen’s old character from the TV show, ‘Gossip Girl’ (2007 to 2012), ‘Jenny Humphrey’. I thought this too back when it was released in May 2020, but I looked into it, and it’s actually not about her at all. Taylor has said on Instagram (“Death By Rock and Roll is a song 10 years in the making.” - in the caption of the 15 second song promo clip / video posted to “taylormomsen” on May 15th, 2020), and in multiple interviews (““Death By Rock And Roll” is a song basically 10 years in the making. When I first met Ben and Kato, Ben had a demo, of like a verse and chorus, of this song, “Death By Rock And Roll”. This was before we were a band, and then the ‘The Pretty Reckless’ started, you know all that, tabled that song, didn’t think anything of it. And when all this went down, that line came back around, and I went “We should finish that, this is very fitting now and to everything that’s happened”” - Taylor herself to 107 . 5 (no spaces) The Point on May 28th, 2020. She also said similar things a day prior (May 27th, 2020) in a Radio . com (no spaces) interview, plus she’s probably said it in other interviews too), that this song is actually 10 years old, and was originally by Ben Phillips (the band’s guitarist). Back in the early 2000s, Ben, Mark Damon (the band’s bassist), and Jamie Perkins (the band’s drummer), had an old band called “FAMOUS” (also known as “The Famous” and “FAMOUS Band”). They released one album on April 4th, 2006, called, “All The Wicked”, and two singles called, “Going To A Funeral” and “Swallow My Evil” in 2008 / 2009. All of these songs are available on KZbin, Spotify, Apple Music, etc, so you can go back listen to them, they’re actually really good. They also had a song called, “Death By Rock And Roll”. This song was added to Marks Myspace page (mdpaquin) back in 2008, and I believe it was also posted to KZbin (before 2014), but has since been taken down. Even though the song was posted to MySpace in 2008, it’s actually from around 2004 to 2006 (most likely 2005). The song is now considered a ‘demo’ and is often called, “Death By Rock And Roll (demo)”. The original song / demo, unfortunately, gets manually copyright claimed / blocked worldwide by ‘Benjamin Phillips’ when posted anywhere, so finding copies of it is quite hard. It’s on OnlyTPR’s Telegram page (onlytpr), and is most likely on VK too (they have e v e r y t h i n g), but some people do have copies of it so feel free to ask around. In the original ‘FAMOUS’ demo, you can hear Ben, very clearly, sing the opening line, “Jenny died of suicide”. That line was in the original song from 2005. That was before the show version of Gossip Girl came out (it first aired in 2007), and before Taylor had met Ben (they met in around 2008). Taylor had nothing to do with that particular line. In fact, the entire song (lyrically) is the exact same in the original as it is in this version. The only difference is that ‘The Pretty Reckless’ added Kato Khandwala’s (he was the band’s producer for every album / EP up to “Who You Selling For”, and he even produced the original demo) footsteps at the start of the song (“Released today, the album’s impressive title-track features as its intro the sound of the footsteps of Kato Khandwala.” - “THE PRETTY RECKLESS’ TAYLOR MOMSEN: “I WANT TO BE FAMOUS FOR THE MUSIC THAT I MAKE”” by Ian Winwoo for KERRANG! on May 15th, 2020), and chorus 3 (“I wanna go with a shotgun blast I wanna go with a motorcycle crash Out on my own, I don’t need to be saved I wanna go out my way”), both added to honour / mention their late producer who unfortunately passed away due to injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident in 2017. Taylor and Ben write all of their songs together, they’re co-writers on every album / EP (their producer can also be credited as a co-writer sometimes too), so that’s why she’s listed as a writer. That and she helped add chorus 3, but the rest of the song was originally written by Ben, and not Taylor. The line could very well have a double meaning to Taylor, she’s not explicitly said, in fact the only thing she’s said about it is that it’s up to the listeners interpretation, (““I ask her, is the 'Jenny died by suicide' line in Death By Rock and Roll a sly reference to her Gossip Girl character Jenny Humphrey? She laughs: “I’ll leave that to the listener’s interpretation.” She’s willing to explain, however, in far greater depth, why she feels that way: “I think it’s unfair to the listener when the artist explains things directly, I think it takes away from the magic.”” - “Will the real Taylor Momsen please stand up?” by Marianne Eloise for LouderSound / Louder Magazine on December 21st, 2020). but the line wasn’t originally written about the character. !! THE IMAGE OF ‘JENNY’: Let’s talk about the image of ‘Jenny Humphrey’ in the video, because a lot of people are using that as ‘proof’ that the line is about her, even though there’s audio from 2005 disproving that. This video was made by an amazing artist called Lucas David (check the description). This song was actually released on May 15th, 2020, but the lyric video came out on June 18th, 2020. Just over a month later. On May 15th, 2020, Lucas’ posted a drawing he made of the single cover to his Instagram. In the comments of that post Taylor said, “AMAZING! That’s what I was gonna email you about!! 🔥❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏”, implying that she / her team had only asked Lucas to make the lyric video AFTER the song was released. Within the comments of the same post, Lucas himself said that he wanted to draw ‘Jenny’ because of that line (“I made this super quick this morning out of excitement bbut I wanna do a Jenny drawing as well hope you like 🥺”), so the image of Jenny was always going to happen. Too many people thought she meant ‘Jenny Humphrey’ so of course he was going to draw her. Fun fact about the video actually, Lucas said that the animation took almost a month to do, so that’s part of the reason why it took just over a month to come out (when asked about how long the video took to animate during an Instagram story Q&A on September 5th, 2020, Lucas said, “10 years ! Most of the drawings used in the video are from my teenage years when I was doing watercolor doodles. But ofc updated it with the motorcycle shots. The animation took almost a month.”). Hopefully that helps. Due to KZbin’s rules and stuff I can’t add links here (my comment will get blocked and won’t show up), but I’ve tried my best to include sources. I think I can include links in replies, so feel free to ask for them.

You're missing out on a fantastic world, rock and roll has more and more female singers or band members. And not being sexualized by men "on top". I recommend Maria Brink from In This Moment, amazing voice and she even did a song along with Rob Halford, "Black Wedding", another fantastic rock singer. And yet another with Andy Biersack from Black Veil Brides, an amazing soundtrack for DC. So many albums I'm holding back not to count... Look...Don't compare a woman in rock with men in rock, as if she's the only one that exists among these men. Don't actually compare any group of women and men in rock (or anywhere), as if they were that little stat that managed to shine. Instead, if you want to compare, compare with other women or do this kind of gender comparison no longer at the table. Comparing by itself takes away the shine and unique essence that an artist has, however, this kind of comparison between genres, just because they are from different genres, is worse. You would be narrowing down and invalidating an entire gender, just because you would be doing it with, for example, a smaller group with a larger group or a single person with an entire group. Even more in relation to women, which is more fragile, because this comparison has been made for so long and shows how women do not have as much strength in rock as men and that's why you, probably, people don't know so many female voices in rock and Roll. Not including those sexed by members or bosses. I hope I made it clear. Rock and roll.

Some say there's a competition between Taylor Momsen and Lzzy Hale for "The Most Badass Modern Female Vocalist". All I can say is if such a competition exists, Taylor threw down the gauntlet with this album. What a masterpiece!!!

The fact that the lyric "Jenny died by suicide" was written before they had even met her makes it even more meaningful. It's meant to be moment. 😘😘😘

Lyrics Jenny died of suicide With a candle burning in her eye But on my tombstone when I go Just put "Death by rock and roll" John forgot what he was on But he broke the needle, dead and gone But on my tombstone when I go Just put "Death by rock and roll" I wanna go with a shotgun blast I wanna go with a woman on her back I wanna go with balls, I won't pray I wanna go with this bottle in my veins I wanna go, I wanna go I wanna go out my way Amy shot and killed a man With a gun too heavy in her hand But on my tombstone when I go Just put "Death by rock and roll" Janey had steel in her bones But she burned away blood into stone But on my tombstone when I go Just put "Death by rock and roll" I wanna go with a shotgun blast I wanna go with a woman on her back I wanna go with the sickness in my throat I wanna go, killed by rock and roll I wanna, I wanna go I wanna go out my way, yeah I wanna go with a shotgun blast I wanna go in a motorcycle crash Out on my own, I don't need to be saved I wanna go out my way But on my tombstone when I go Just put "Death by rock and roll"

It sounds like evolution of the character. "All I need is someone to save me" in "Goin' Down" "I don't need to be saved" in "Death by Rock and Roll" You are amazing, Taylor💜

Actually I believe the song Going To Hell is the continuation of Goin' Down. I mean, both are a conversation with a priest, and in Going To Hell the lyrics starts with a girl saying "Father did you miss me? (...) I got caught for what I did..." I can't see how this is a continuation from Going To Hell, if you can please let me know, it would be fucking amazing
