I found the entire episode on my Facebook timeline a little while back and posted a Hurdles clip from it earlier this month. However, I know this is the real thing that everyone wants to see. This is the final playing of Professor Price from November 21st, 1977.

I always wondered what Bob himself thought of this game. His enthusiasm for this game seemed genuine, but I'm sure inside he was thinking "They really expect me to talk to this mannequin as if it's a living person?!?!?" I wonder if Bob had any say about this game getting the axe?

Trivia: Professor Price is also one of a few games with a PERFECT win record! Since it was won twice on the 2 times it was played.

Double Bullseye was reworked from Bullseye I to have 2 players who would guess at the price of a vehicle until one of them got it right and won, guaranteeing a winner all 5 or so times it was played. To say the producers extremely overcompensated for never having a winner in Bullseye I is a massive understatement lol.

Between the ridiculously stupid looking puppet and lack of pricing which is integral to the show's format it's no surprise why this game was so short lived. Crazy still is that even then both of the playings were winners and as such is the only one of the retired games with a winning record. Just wow, out of all the retired games this had to be hands down the worst setup ever conceived.

@hdayejr Absolutely, i'm guessing that he didn't think this one through very well. There's been games which got sent to the scrap heap like Bullseye 1 for excessive difficulty plus other games which didn't work for one reason or another like On the Nose or On the Spot. Then there's pure WTF level garbage such as Professor Price, because the game totally went against what TPIR is at it's core as in a show where people apply knowledge of prices to win prizes.

Bob Barker hosted a show with a robot(Simon?) shortly before starting the price is right...That show didn't last long but the 70's technology was big on this animatronics stuff...

The game wasn't that bad, the character and prop could have been redesigned to be less creepy. The game was more of a trivia game and TPIR was never considered trivial, more guessing the price and actual games.

This worked better than the first playing with the questions being picked. Debra got unlucky picking the 3 star general (I would've guessed 4 as well) but lucky because with 2 3's in the car it was pretty obvious that 3 wasn't in the price. In the first playing, I have a feeling they intentionally made the answers of the first two questions the first two numbers in the price of the car.

Pomp and Circumstance has been played in colleges and high schools for graduation ceremonies. And a professor is associated with colleges. Plus, it was before Macho Man Randy Savage even wrestled, so Professor Price used it before he did.

This game could have worked if the questions had been related to the price of the car. For example: "Is the first digit in the price of the car a 3 or a 4?" "One of the digits in the price of the car is a 7. Which digit is it?" "Is the last digit in the price of the car higher or lower than 5?" Then the game could go on as usual, with a win for three right answers and a loss for three wrong answers, with the car's price gradually being revealed as the car progresses.

This game is antithetical to everything that is "The Price Is Right". Very little pricing elements, no audience help allowed, and educational questions that anyone can miss. I'm glad that this game was played only twice. I'll bet they got a lot of letters outlining these same complaints. Screw Professor Price.

Professor Price was only played TWICE on The Price Is Right, and both times, the car was won. The game itself was very out of place on the show, what with trivia questions with numerical answers between 0-9 and seeing if the numbers were in the car's price.
