Basically the reason why the word new was used at 1st was that the original Bill Cullen version was still airing repeats at this point. Eventually the new was dropped same with the 25000 pyramid.

That was because independent stations were still carrying The $25,000 Pyramid with Bill Cullen at the time including Channel 55 in Long Island. The "New" was dropped as soon as they stopped airing the Cullen hosted version. His version of TPIR was never reran even once and the word, "new" was dropped after 6 months as everyone was familiar with the game and after its transition to afternoon as The $10,000 Pyramid took its place.

Holly revealed in 1985 interview that whenever the cameras weren't rolling,the girls would have their shoes off to air out their pantyhosed feet! It's a shame that the models stopped wearing pantyhose after Janice & Kathleen left at the end of 2000.
