Cracking video. The amount of knowledge and information that Paul gives us is awesome. I’ve picked up so many little things from listening to him and used them on my own 3 dr. Think the best thing was the fuel regulator tip. Keep them coming and such a great watch

I would suggest it has been modified. Because the dust cap has been removed from the mechanical fuel pressure regulator. The only reason one would remove that, is to allow access of an Allen key inside the top to increase fuel pressure. Usually because it has been chipped!

Hi Adam, nice to be back at Paul's workshop. Will be nice to see its progress as Paul works his way through it. A video on its detailing would be nice to see too if possible. Unbelievable condition isn't it really, what a find and a shrewd purchase by Jonathan. Jealous or what, lol. Alex.

We paid £280 for our mk1 xr4x4 to have the radiator recored, that had been sitting in the garage 20 years...4x discs and rear pads was £100, we had a brand new set of genuine fronts in the garage with it brake fluid was changed and abs system is working well..... all the brake pipes and fuel lines are still original! Only other thing was a warm up regulator...., we are going to replace all the suspension over winter and probably rear suspension bushes...Been using it for 2 months now with no issues and passed its first mot since 2002 with no advisories!....trying to find bits, like engine hoses is the difficult part as there are only about 20 mk1 4x4's on the road, new parts aren't particularly easy to come by.

"The speakers rattle and crackle" - was anything done about that? I'm pretty sure they have foam _surrounds_ (cone edge suspension rings) that crumble away after about 20 years. Speakers can be _refoamed_ (new _surrounds_ fitted).

I had a mate that had a quite newish Mondeo in 2008, sold it for an old 3 door cosworth, back then I thought he was nuts, paying 8k for an old Sierra. I thought being a cosworth it wasn’t a £500 car but probably £1500. But now the prices have gone through the roof. I do see the attraction, being a rally and touring car legend, but no way are they worth what they are today.

Taking the rear subframe out isn't a bad job. I had a Sierra Twink that I had to drop the arse out of in order to weld the inner sills. Did it on my driveway. Exhaust, fuel tank & propshaft had to come out first. I had a '91 Granada Cosworth hatch too. Rust in the shells saw both cars off in the end. This car's shell looks good. That's the most important part. All the oily bits can be refurbished/replaced. For the sake of originality I'd recondition the original steering rack rather than replacing it. Bushes, gaiters, hoses, etc are service items.
