Scuffing the plastic shroud provides "tooth" for the paint to grab, 00 fine steel wool would accomplish this. I have painted many cards and without a scuff the paint will eventually begin to separate from the plastic...prep is EVERYTHING.

Finally! Looks clean. Mine is still not done yet. I want to paint the fans just to proved the haters wrong, but at the same time nobody can see the fans anyway. So I keep going back and forth on that. I want to find some vinyl graphics too so the top isn’t blank after.
@J_Bwn7 күн бұрын
Honestly I wouldn’t paint the fans unless you can accomplish it with a very thin coat. There are reasons why fans have the texture that most have these days for sound dampening and air flow. You could reduce the effectiveness of the fans design.
@RobertFixit7 күн бұрын
@@J_Bwn For personal use, I wouldn't bother painting the fans either. Outside of a Discord Post or KZbin Video, nobody will see the fans anyway. So you are just creating more work for yourself. If you intend to sell the GPU/Build, then of course it will draw more attention if you pain the fans. I have decided to paint the fans because it will be a video and if I don't paint the fans all hell will break loose. I would be more worried about the paint peeling off from the plastic fans over time. Typically paint and plastic do not play well. But in our case, we upgrade the GPU often, so I do not see it as a major issue. As for the performance difference, it will not matter. I literally used a GPU with a broken fan blade for months and it was fine. It is funny to me that so many people comment about the painted fan performance, yet they have no personal data to support the theory. Some might say, what about vertical mount? Well, if you have the type of money to have that kind of a Build, you probably are not painting your GPU LOL.

just a few tips. Hang the parts with a wire so you don't have to have those smudges happen. Also if you want to paint the details like the embossed EVGA, get yourself some enamel paint and you can paint as sloppy as you want over the lacquer, then remove excess with lighter fluid dipped in q-tips. You can get super clean details using the enamel and the lacquer underneath wont be harmed because the lighter fluid removes enamel but not the lacquer. I paint gundams but this can be applied to anything you want to paint.

I wouldn't paint the metal backplate on larger GPUs as paint adds a barrier to the air for heat dissipation. The color on the backplate from the factory is anodizing that doesn't effect heat dissipation or they use thermally conductive paint. By the way, your card is now worth more in this market.

I just built a white PC and went through just this. I wound up having to settle for an RTX 4070, even after the Super versions came out. The white ones were just much more expensive. I could have just put a black PSU in it and saved a little money, but the difference in the white PSU was minimal. I figure I spent around $100 more to build the all white PC, but it does look really nice. Not sure if it looks $100 worth of nice, but it is a good PC that preforms and looks really nice.

Can drill out the back of it under the sticker and can get to the retaining clip and remove the fan that way.

The IO shield, when properly installed on the PC casing, helps in grounding the motherboard through the PSU. This grounding is crucial as it can protect your motherboard from static discharge, which can occur when you touch the ports. This also applies to the IO Shield on the GPU.
@mcalin59318 күн бұрын
Painting the IO shield can affect its grounding capabilities. The paint can act as an insulator, preventing proper electrical contact between the IO shield and the PC case. This could potentially lead to issues with static discharge protection. If you want to customize the look of your IO shield, it’s best to avoid painting the areas that make contact with the case. Alternatively, you could use a conductive paint designed for electronics, but it’s crucial to ensure that the grounding is not compromised.

Not sure about painting the fans, I wonder if that would had too much weight to them and unbalance them. On a 3060 I don't think the backplate does much, but It might affect higher end GPU that really use the backplate for cooling.

Vinyl Dye works better on plastic parts, and won't flake or chip like paint can. It used to be a staple of the case mod community, before cases became metal and glass. Vinyl dye feels solid, but small bits of overspray or oopses actually flow out and self-correct after a couple days.

Please put some sort of sealant over that rustoleom paint. The heat is going to impact bare generic rattle can paint. You do not need to "sand" you should throw it in a blaster and use some sort of grit, preferably nut shells, to give it some texture for the paint to adhere to.
@MikeNovelli9 күн бұрын
Fan balance is definitely a concern when painting. I would also advise against it, but if you are cautious, make a conscious effort to cover evenly and most importantly use the least amount of paint (added weight/mass) you can do it without too much issue. The real test is putting those fans back in and ramping them up from 0rpms to max to see if there is any imbalance at any speeds. If not, good job. You were conscious of the potential and mitigated that problem. But also if that paint begins to wear you may have future issues. Sealing may counteract that, but also you would be adding additional weight in the sealer... 🤷🏼♂

8/10 except really 7.5 because of the paint stick. Try suspending the surface instead of allowing it to rest on something (i.e. cardboard). Use a wire, string, metal hook
