You sort of touched on it but didnt go into it. Mortarion saw psykers as weaklings. That they were weak for not relying on their own strength and that is what shapped his character and legion. What sorta changed this was a bit of an incident. A greater daemon was mocking him, egging him own, challenging him. This infuriated Mortarion to no end. So in reply he slew his own Deathshroud to fully summon this daemon to him so he could prove he could beat it. The Daemon tricked him, the Daemon knew without warp powers the Primarch couldn't hurt it. Because it wasnt bound to our laws of physics. Mortarion raged against it, clawing and fighting with his enormous Demi God power, but it wasnt enough. In desperation all of a sudden something he has kept supressed forever snapped and he unleashed a psyker blast against the daemon and the room stunk of witchery. Mortarion raged, he couldnt beleive he had been forced to do that. He repeatedly slammed his fist into the dying daemons head like a jack hammer. The Daemon however laughed. In the moment Mortarion unleashed his supressed powers it saw a vision. And it laughed and said "HAIL THE LORD OF PLAGUES". Mortarion looking at the Daemons broken form said to himself "If this is the path I must follow.... So be it".

Also, The Khan didnt defeat Mortarion. The Khan admitted if the fight had continued he would have lost. Mortarion was wearing him down the entire time.
@italianspartacus7 жыл бұрын
they both break the fight because Mortation didn't want to lose the fleet, but Mortarion is the one that fled by teleporting out. so it's a bit of a point for Khan as he didn't quit the field.. but that's the glory of the 40k universe, we can debate these finer points on matters of perspective ;)
@papanurgle83935 жыл бұрын
Mostly cause he hated what they did to his people. As a result he found it repulsive, cowardly and wrong since he only ever saw it sick abuse. Another recent bit of lore tells us that his distaste for the Emperor came after Calas Typhon advised him to hold out on assaulting his adoptive father's home, and they stalled for a sizeable amount of time (like months). That led to doubts amongst the populace in Mortarion's ability, so the Emperor showing up and openly challenging him and further undermining his authority just rubbed him in all sorts of wrong ways. When he was dying on Barbarus, Nurgle himself began trying to whisper to him the secrets of all life, in an offer to save him from entropy. It was the very first time he knew true despair and a fear of Death, thus letting Nurgle in. The Emperor saved him before the "deal" could come to fruition, so it's likely he began to slowly corrupt Typhon who was then all too glad to deliver the Death Guard to him on a silver platter (also explains why Typhus is still not ascendant, because he played his part). So when Morty was becalmed in the Warp, he wasn't finally meeting Nurgle for the first time, but accepting his offer, much like Magnus did at Tizca. That combined with Barbarus' fixation on 7 (Nurgle's big on numerology and 7 is his number) leads me to believe Magnus and the Sons weren't the only ones affected by a Chaos God from the outset, and it's likely that many of the traitors were already "tainted".

And even his Legion fleet is obsessed with number 7. 70 Capital ships. 210 Escorts. Divided with 7. And also assuming each escort carries 70 DG, each cruiser 700, each battle barge 2100 (3x700), and Mortarion'd flagship 4900 (7x700), you get roughly about the ballpark of DG Marines in total.

Nice video, quick nitpicky thing tho, Horus probably did not outnumber the loyalist marines post Istvaan. Overall both sides had a mix of large and small legions, but the traitor legions also purged/lost between 1/4 and 1/2 (which it was for the World Eaters iirc :p) of their forces. The way the Heresy seems to play out is that both sides had roughly equal numbers, however the loyalists kept getting jumped and were scattered around the galaxy. Attrition then was waaay worse for them, as being an attacking force causes far more casualties than defending.

He made it to his necromancer Psyker adoptive father, but began to collapse from the toxins that had corroded his armor and respirator, but before he could pass out The Emperor appeared, killed the warlord, and saved Mortarion. Also, I'm pretty sure (and will check the wiki after this) Mortarion didn't wear a respirator after because he had Darth Vader level lung injuries. He wore a respirator that carried the toxic gases of Barbarus as a reminder and keepsake of what happened, and to continue to toughen his body's resistance.

@ewokz7507 жыл бұрын
I quite like Mortys development in that area, he even sees a decent glimpse of the Emp's webway plans and yet still turns his back despite it so perfectly matching his own goals. I guess his daddy issues ran deep enough that he just saw Empy as another psyker tyrant and that blinded him. Still one of the best videos I've seen on him (and the lion one) that doesn't go into tedious detail but gives a comprehensive breakdown of the guy. Really good man, looking forward to more :)
@italianspartacus7 жыл бұрын
thanks dude! that was the goal: talk about the primarch, give you a really great idea of who he was and his history and spare you the details that are better left to the authors that masterfully crafted his image! but i totally agree.. he has been blinded and solo since the start.. that's the duality and irony of his character.. he's singular minded and "end justifies the means" type individual, but doesn't realize the Emp's plans and how they are the same thing: ends justifies the means!
@ewokz7507 жыл бұрын
It's kinda funny how both embraced "end justifies the means" yet Morty turned. I guess he wasn't able to appreciate just how far the Emperor was willing to take that concept, or what was at stake if he didn't. Kinda tragic he lost sight of the big picture and instead ended up as an swole plague monster for the rest of eternity.

I'm just beginning on the lore, and I'm reading some of the books, but one thing I'm a little confused on. The Astartes are gene seeded from their father(primarch) and when you read like Helsreach, they are all of Dorn so very similar features and voices besides environmental things like scars and wounds. So when you say Mortarion and others recruit from their homeworld, are they randos? Or do they grow new gene seed marines? I'm just trying to understand because if they recruit others, by now most shouldn't be related to the original Sons....or am I wrong?
@italianspartacus5 жыл бұрын
Hmm the wording on your question kind of confuses me.. But the gene seed is implanted into the recruit.. And the seed itself is usually centuries old, if not millennia. The original legions were all Terran born until they met their Primachs and they received r ecruits from their primarchs home world to reinforce them. Does any of that help??
