The Prince of Wales speaks at D-Day 80th anniversary event in Portsmouth

The Prince of Wales joined Their Majesties The King and Queen at the UK’s national commemorative event in Portsmouth to mark the 80th anniversary of the D-Day Landings. During the event, The King and Queen and The Prince of Wales met veterans involved in the D-Day Landings.
His Royal Highness reads from the diary of
Captain Alastair Bannerman, a soldier
who was part of Operation Overlord.

Lest we forget our wonderful veterans and the events of D Day . I couldn't be more proud of the man Prince William has become . He is a wonderful and loyal support to his Father , King Charles , and is one son who can be trusted and relied upon . Our prince of Wales will make a fine king one day , With His dedication to duty , his loyalty ,and having such a strong connection to the public of all ages in the UK and the Commonwealth . It's not surprising that Prince William and his lovely wife are so loved by so many throughout the UK and all over the world. I applaud and respect the Wonderful Prince and Princess of Wales .

I am French, born June 6th 1972, and D-day is really special to me. Each year, on my birthday, I get remembered that thanks to the sacrifice of British soldiers and civilians, American soldiers and French who never stopped to believe in a better world, Normandy was the stage of one of the key fight in order to free Europe from insanity : I cherish the souls of those who died that day, and I am forever grateful for those who came back to their families. Your Royal Highness, your speech was heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time. Thank you.

Umm Canadian soldiers were there. Perhaps you need to remember that. What part of that did you not hear. The Americans did not join the war effort till 1941. Canada was in the war in 1939 along side GB. Do open a history book and look it up.

My grandfather was in the United States Army and landed at Omaha Beach on D-Day. My great aunt was a nurse stationed in Okinawa. I will be forever grateful for all of the sacrifices these young men and women made. They both made it home safely, but so many more did not.

I’m glad he remembered CANADA 🇨🇦. We fought side by side with our British brothers and sisters in BOTH WORLD WARS. We have always fulfilled out commitments to the UK 🇬🇧. 23000 men lost their lives in the first three days of DDAY. Many under the age of 20, who never got to live their lives, get married, or have children. Their remains rest in foreign fields so far from home. The ultimate sacrifice that shall never be forgotten. NEVER FORGET…
