The Princess and the Frog: one of Disney’s most groundbreaking animated films to be featured in the Disney Revival Era. It’s also known for bringing to life their first Black Official Princess: Tiana. In the Jazz Age of 1926 New Orleans, when Tiana saves up enough money to finally open her dream restaurant, she meets the frog: Prince Naveen.

Charlotte deserves to be ranked MUCH higher. She’s just as spoiled as Naveen, but always kept Tiana at the front of her mind. Playing with her as a child, convincing her dad to find Tiana’s beignet stand at the party, stopping her prince quest to console her, AND giving up her Happily Ever After. LET’S BE CLEAR!!

Charlotte also didn't seem to give Tiana a hard time over her work ethic or look down on her, something which Tiana's other friends seemed to do. When it came to the beignets, I feel like Charlotte gave way more (of her father's) money knowing it would help Tiana and figuring her dad would be okay with it because Tiana is important to them. Giving the vast difference socially, I'd definitely rank Charlotte higher.

Hm, I think I would put Charlotte a little higher and Big Daddy a little lower. While I do find your interpretation of their relationship interesting, I also think there should be more emphasis on Big Daddy spoiling the living hell out of his daughter, even if he meant well theoretically. He enabled, and that’s the behavior he received in return. I wouldn’t call Charlotte exploitative, because that would imply she exploits other people other than her father as a result of her raising. She’s just a bit of a spoiled brat, and naive of the world, and he enables that. I suppose, by a stretch, you could argue she was “exploiting” Tiana by using what she needed as a way to get her to make beignets for her party in spite of her already being severely overworked, but another interpretation I’ve considered is that we’ve already seen that Charlotte is very quick do to everything she can to help her friend, and with that in mind has probably tried to physically give her money many times to help pay for the building. So, I think this may be her way of supporting her and her dreams that Tiana would actually go along with, and also just convincing her to attend the party in general (since I highly doubt she would have if she weren’t catering it - she would likely try to pull another shift).

The frog hunters are not evil characters. In fact I would say they are arguably sympathetic characters. It's not evil to kill frogs or other animals generally, and in the film we do see the human characters eating animal products because they aren't aware animals are anthropomorphic. These frog hunters didn't know who Navene or Tiana could talk until the very end of the scene. So with that in mind, from the frog hunters perspective they are not doing anything evil. Moreover, the reason I say they are sympathetic is they represent the poor Southern white person. They probably grew up with parents who could not help them much in the world or educate them properly, they probably did not go to good schools and lived in poverty in their childhood and so didn't get the skills to rise above their situation. They probably go frog hunting to make enough money to survive or if they have family, to support that family, and I'd wager they don't make much money for their time and effort frog hunting. This is not to say this situation is totally inescapable because Tiana also comes from very humble beginnings in the film and rises above it in the end, albeit it with significant assistance but the situation is certainly very hard to overcome and their failure to do so is not an indictment on them.

Doctor Facilier clearly explains in his song, "enable me to do anything I please" "change your future round some" hop from place to place" "when I look into your future, it's the green that I see." So he made his statement in of intent. Bah ha ha!

the thing I loved about this movie were how all of the main characters were morally ambiguous. Tiana wasn't the "goody goody" pure wholesome princess like in most Disney movies, she had an unfair upbringing, but she still had her own faults like being bitchy and stubborn from time to time. Naveen is the best representation of morally ambiguous, because he definately had bad traits like being immature and selfish, but none of it was from truly having a bad heart, but a result of his environment. Faclier, while being undeniably the villain of the movie, was a black man in 1920's america, he never even had a chance. can you really blame him for going to extreme lengths just to make some damn money? All in all I really love this movie.... it broke so many previous Disney tropes and I really admire it for that. Also, it's just one badass freaky movie.

I'd say Dr. Facilier should have been the silver medal on the evil list. Lawrence, being ready to take any opportunity to betray others for revenge as soon as it's presented to him, has a moral code and actively chooses to break it for personal gain. The same cannot be said for the Shadow Man, having no morals and most of his shady acts being out of necessity to satisfy the loa. Silver medal for being the "bad guy" and the mastermind -- if we can really call him that -- driving the story, but he doesn't even do so much as lie. He's an example of a Chaotic Neutral villain. While it would be one thing to just to refer back to the end of Friends on the Other Side ("Don't blame me, you can blame my friends on the other side!"), it's another to notice that when using voodoo, Facilier is *not* in control. He was bound by the loa to make both futures happen, blood wasn't the only reason he had to keep Naveen alive. Pretty much every frame Facilier is in, the show provides indications that he has no control. He can't even control his own shadow.
