Fun fact...Genovia is actually located in Monaco...when they recorded the movie..Monaco changed their flag temporarily to the Genovian flag and then the locals acted like as if they were Genovian citizen and the parliament gave permission to have their government building used as Genovian parliament including the Castle to be used as the Genovian Queen's Castle...you can see more of the Location in the second movie

fun fact, Mia actually fell on the bleachers and burst out laughing and kept it in the film. also the Barons wife, is the actress who plays the Nun Valak in the conjuring universe. The 2nd movie is pretty good and I heard a rumor they are in talks for a 3rd movie now. so we'll se how that turns out with all the same actors

The scene where Mia slips and falls in the bleachers was real. Anne Hathaway had slipped on a puddle while doing the scene, and director Garry Marshall thought it was so funny, he inserted it in the final cut. And during auditions, Anne Hathaway fell out of her chair, and was immediately given the part as clumsy Mia Thermopolis.

In the US you can earn your driver's liscence at 16 IF you have completed drivers education classes prior allowing you to drive alone and unsupervised, otherwise you can do so at 18. BUT, most states have drivers/learners permits(various names based on state) as well allowing a student who has taken drivers ed classes to drive IF there is a fully liscenced drivers in the car with them. Also, several states also allow for children as young as TWELVE to get "farm liscences" allowing them to drive family farm equipment and vehicles on and near their family farms. Almost if not entirely extinct now are the laws which allowed familiy business owners to authorize children 15 and older to operate vehicles owned by the family business for business purposes with nothing more than a letter from the family business... this one was crazy in that you could find 15 year olds driving 18 wheeler trucks owned by grandpa up and down the east coast decades ago.

31:20 I think Lily was just a teenager. You can't expect maturity and consistency at 15. If she was all supportive or all critic, the character would have been a function to the story, not the representation of a person. I like how she flip-flops, but at the end she always wants to be Mia's friend.

Mia slipping on the steps by the tennis courts was an actual accident that happened on set. It seemed to fit her character at the time, so it was left in the movie.

A wonderful teen movie that even a European can relate to ;-) A very shy teen. My grandniece loved wall climbing ;-) My favorite real princess is Princess Leonore of Spain. Every daughter is a princess.

In Canada, at least where I'm from, people could get a learner's license at 14 years of age, although one would need someone with a driver's license in the car when driving. A driver's license could be obtained at 16. Today learner's licenses are probationary, meaning they could be taken away if one had too many traffic violations. Fortunately for me, it wasn't the case when I got mine. I've been driving for decades.
