FunFacts, aside from the things mentioned in previous comments: 1. Anne mentioned once or twice in an interview that Julie Andrews happens to be a blood relative. 2. Mia's father was played by Anne Hathaway's real father. 3. Anne got the role just by falling on a chair.😅 4. The premise of the story is quite similar to a real life royalty(more like a prince's daughter). A 14-year-old American girl discovered that she's a daughter of Prince Albert of Monaco. Though unlike the movie, she's illegitimate but still attends family engagements in Monaco. 5. Anne Hathaway shared the same birthday with the only Oscar-winner turned royalty, Princess Grace of Monaco, formerly known as Grace Kelly. She's the mother of Prince Albert. Princess Grace died in less than 2 months before her birthday, the same year of Anne's birth. 6. You will see actors and scenes similar with another famous Gary Marshall movie, Pretty Woman.

the second one is extremely good, many even feel it's much better than the first, so i definitely recommend watching it too! (tangent about lily under the cut lol) yeah, definitely agree about lily. i do think it comes from a place of youth and insecurity + jealousy, so i'm not surprised she acted the way she did. her personality type is obviously the kind that has strong views about society and rights, etc, and is as much of an outcast as mia. so from her perspective, one day her bff's rich relative shows up and all of a sudden mia's entire look changes, she's become trendy, and even her mannerisms are changing (due to the princess training), and she's not being open/honest with her anymore and obviously has some kind of secret. from lily's pov, it's probably like a nightmare, her best friend is basically becoming representative of the thing she hates. hence the belief that she "sold out" because now she has money thanks to her grandma and can do whatever she wants. obviously, none of that excuses lily's behavior, but i feel like it makes her more understandable. we as the audience can see all that mia's going through, but lily can't. i do think the comment about mia's dad dying and it being "what like two months" is pretty harsh, but again, mia never knew her dad, wasn't close to him, and so from the pov of someone who probably never had a family member die, it would seem weird to still be upset months later about someone dying who was for all intents and purposes a stranger. and as someone whose own dad died about a year and a half ago, people just...don't know how to talk to you. they say the weirdest things, obviously unintentionally, but still. if they haven't experienced it themselves they just _don't_ get it. i just assume it's that plus being very young that makes it so incomprehensible to lily. i think she didn't get enough of a redemption in this movie to equal how awful she was to mia, but there just wasn't enough time, and their friendship isn't the focus of the movie. i think there would have been some really nice messages to be had if there had been more of a focus on friendship though. this could have easily been a tv series (especially considering it's an adaption of a book series), and had it been i think lily would have gotten much better character development. same goes for lily's brother--the love interes--but again, romantic love isn't the focus of the movie, it's about her relationship with her grandma and personal growth. it's a bit of a shame the side characters with potential didn't get so much attention, but it is what it is, and i still love the movie regardless! enjoyed your reaction and commentary as always :)

During the press for this movie they ask her if she always wanted to play a princess. She said no, she always wanted to play Catwomen. So when she was cast as Catwome in the dark knight rises I was so hyped up for her

Hector Elizondo, the actor who played Joe, is in ever Gary Marshall movie. The girl who plays Charolette is Gary’s daughter Kathleen Marshall, and the Gentleman that says “it happens all the time also has a similar role in Pretty Woman.

My favorite movie!!! This movie is my childhood and is what made me fall in love with Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews as actors

Movies like this always remind me on the movie Blast from the past but here in germany I feel like the title "eve and the last gentlemen" fits way more. It's a great watch.

I love this film so much, it has such great scenes and is so iconic, I don't know how many people notice this on first watch, but I love when Julie Andrews character Queen Clarice makes a jab at the Baron and Baroness being Barron meaning that they can't have kids and it's funny because She said that without princess Mia Govier would cease to exist as they know it and Violator adding that she hopes they will stay Barron is just that next level of hilariously cruel humour that adds so much more debts to her as a character into the entire film which adds to the iconic Ness of it and is something that people don't really notice until secondary watch or on Woods, which changes the whole perspective of the film and well this is a cruel joke it also just fits perfectly with her character and like I said it's easy to miss it and just play off the whole Barron Baroness thing, but if you really pay attention it just makes more worldbuilding, there are so many scenes like that in both this film and the sequel that just add to this world and despite their only being to films it really feels so built out and I don't know if that's partially to do with the fact that there are also books, butknow the films don't really follow the books so who knows, but either way these are such iconic and amazing films and Julie Andrews and Anne Hathaway adjust so good in these roles.

12:09 Fun FACT! At her audition for this role, Anne fell out of her chair 💺 and fell on the floor and that's when the casting director knew Anne Hathaway was the one for the role! So they added her falling out of a chair in the movie! 🎉

20:00 That Fall was real on the bleachers. She fell by mistake and they kept it in the movie. That's why Lilly's, "Are you okay?!" Sounded so real. She was actually concerned Anne had hurt herself. ❤

20:01; yeah, that actually happened on set. The directors loved it so much (as it played well into the whole “clumsy” vibe), they kept it in.

To answer about how crown moves so julie Andrew's is queen because she married into the royal family. King and Queen had their son and only child, so he was the next in line for the throne. Once he had mia and she was a princess and second in line for the throne (even tho only the queen knew about mia) outside of mia and her dad aka uncles, aunts, and cousins are in line for the throne also. So when mia's dad passes, she is heir to the throne being next in line. So when our queen says if mia is deny becoming queen giving up the crown, it would go to cousins, uncles, or aunts. The couple that state they will get the crown back. I believe are cousins so if mia says no to being queen and her royal duty, it will more likely go to them or whoever is next in line behind mia. Update: In the second movie, you learn more about politics and how gender affects the crown. I will not elaborate because that be spoiling the plot of the second movie.

Omg Lily is the worst friend ever. She's worse than the "mean girl" because she's supposed to be supportive and then isn't... until she finds out she's a princess, at which point, she's like, "Oh yeah we're totally best friends!" "Who destroyed you? You look ridiculous!". Awful. And that's not even the only thing. Telling her, "Oh I thought you were over that." about her dad's death. Like, what? EDIT: I wrote this before I got to that part but I'm so glad he even said, "I hate her more than the other characters." Because yes.

I re-watched this film recently myself and couldn't believe how mean Lily is. Two months after Mia's dad died and she's like 'oh I thought you were over that?' I couldn't believe it.
@Alonepistachio7 ай бұрын
Yeah she is the worst character in the movie. Even the reason why she’s mad at Mia is basically because she wanted to exploit her fame for her show while constantly putting Mia down for trying to be a princess. THE WORST FRIEND IN ANY KID’S MOVIE.

In the scene where the hairbrush broke, there was actually trouble with the hairbrush breaking! Anne Hathaway said she did the little 'ow' to improvise and buy some time until the brush finally broke, lol. They felt it felt so well with Mia that they kept the scene.

The Princess Diaries is one of my favorite movies ever! I actually really like Lily(could be because I absolutely adore the actress lol). When the movie came out I really related to Mia and Lily a lot....I guess I kind of still do lol. But yeah it's such a wholesome light fun movie! You should absolutely watch the 2nd one. I like the 1st one a little better but the 2nd one is still very good!

My favorite movie from when I was a kid is one I know you would love. It's called The Pebble and the Penguin. Fabulous visuals, absolutely stunning soundtrack, and jam-packed with so many great celebrities with a gripping storyline. It's definitely worth watching. One more, it's much older, and it might be hard to find a good copy of it. The movie is called Ferngully: The Last Rainforest. Another film that can match up with the previous movie in every aspect.
