Its not a death sentence , good you have the awareness but most SEN caregivers went through a whole dark pit having to accept it, its not an easy process and the cycle of the grief can continue this is due to the external factors and some assumptions people in the community have about SEN-take it from a practitioner who has been in the field for 8 years, we usually refer this experience to the Kubler ross model.

It depends on the level of the disability… Severe Autism with nonverbal is a life sentence for the person and their caregiver!!

Sending your kid to special ed school is the best gift you can give . I'm an educator and I can tell you that so many parents refuse to accept their child's condition and continue placing their kids in normal schools . Teachers in normal schools are not equipped with the skills and knowledge to handle special needs - it is a punishment to both the child and the teachers. Normal schools are driven from the academics to character development , however autistic children will find it too much to have so many things to do. Great job in recognising what your child needs and doing the right thing.

And to those people who have normal children and without special needs children, when you see special children like this in public like in restaurant or cafe or public transport and you see them melt down, don’t stare and judge. The family is already having difficult time dealing with challenging situations and the frequent time bombs from their special needs children. Its because of stares and judgements from public, these kids are always deprived of being brought out to public. Please be more understanding and accepting and learn to co-exist with special needs children/individuals.
@rosidahariff2365Ай бұрын
I feel now people are more understanding. Unlike 20-30 years ago when my niece who uses a wheelchair got long stares from strangers. More people with autism are employed & their presence at the work place provide understanding & acceptance in the community.

Other then speech delay what are the early signs of autism for kids below 2 years?
@LeeKekHuanАй бұрын
1. Social Interaction Limited Eye Contact: The child may not make consistent eye contact or might avoid looking directly at people. Lack of Response to Name: The child may not respond to their name being called by 9-12 months. Limited Social Smiling: The child may smile less often in response to social cues. Lack of Interest in Social Games: The child may not engage in interactive games like peek-a-boo or pat-a-cake. 2. Communication Delayed Speech or Language Skills: The child may not babble or coo by 12 months and may not use single words by 16 months. Unusual Tone or Patterns: If the child does vocalize, the tone or pitch might sound different (e.g., flat or sing-song). Minimal Gesturing: The child may not point to objects to show interest, wave goodbye, or use other typical gestures by 12 months. Echoing Words (Echolalia): Repeating words or phrases said by others, which may occur without understanding their meaning. 3. Behavioral Signs Repetitive Movements: The child may show repetitive behaviors, such as hand flapping, rocking, or spinning. Hyperfocus on Specific Objects: The child may become intensely interested in certain objects or parts of objects, like spinning the wheels of a toy car instead of playing with the toy as a whole. Unusual Reactions to Sensory Input: The child may be hypersensitive or under-reactive to sensory stimuli (e.g., loud noises, bright lights, certain textures). Difficulty Adapting to Changes: The child may get upset by minor changes in routine or surroundings. 4. Play and Imitation Limited Pretend Play: By 18 months, the child may not engage in pretend play, such as feeding a doll or using toys symbolically. Preference for Solitary Play: The child may prefer playing alone and show little interest in interacting with other children or caregivers. Lack of Imitation: The child may not copy simple actions or mimic facial expressions or gestures by 12-18 months. 5. Physical Development and Coordination Delayed Motor Skills: Some children may have delayed gross or fine motor skills, although this is not always the case. Unusual Posturing: The child might exhibit repetitive or peculiar body movements, like stiffening arms or twisting fingers.

In terms of football, he should never have been given the "captain" armband. He does not have "leadership" in him. And certainly lacks any technical skills. The most forgettable and unremarkable "captain" and player in Singapore football's history.
