The problem is that they're focusing too much on the story now. They constantly introduce new characters and arcs and take themselves too seriously. Now they focus so much on story that they forget to add in humour and character plus, with all the new characters they don't focus enough on the actually important ones.

***** I love GF, But honestly I wish I liked Season 2 a lot more than I do. The episodes were too focused on plot and there wasn't enough "Fun" episodes as Season 1. Season 2 was okay, but Season 1 was WAY better imo.

TravisChinchilla I think the season 2 episodes based on story were the weaker episodes of the show but non plot episodes like soos and the real girl, blendin's game and sock opera were way better than anything season 1 offered.

Personally, I think Adventure Time is missing, well, THE ADVENTURE. The show used to be like Skyrim in a way, Finn and Jake wander Ooo for a bit, encounter someone that needs help or something of interest and either an action packed adventure with some comedy or a comedic adventure with some action would ensue. Now? It's hard to put into words. There is still adventures, but it just lacks that feeling they used to give off in the earlier seasons. Heck, the whole romance thing with Finn was ENJOYABLE, I liked seeing him and Flame Princess happy! It was good to see him happy with someone after realizing he and Princess Bubblegum will never be together. Then he donked up and he and Flame Princess broke up, and it was AAALL down hill from there. Finn has gone through a MAJOR character derailment as seen in Breezy. Doing stuff just to get a kiss from princesses? What the heck?!? The heroic and funny Finn that I've seen throughout the seasons would never do that (I will admit though, LSP's bit got a laugh out of me). Jake? He's become a bystander. How do you make a magical stretching dog a BYSTANDER?!? Yeesh. Well, that's what I think is wrong with Adventure Time anyway. Meanwhile, Regular Show is holding up strong, and that Season Finale parodying Evangelion? Too cool :)

For me the show started annoying me when they added the melodrama for Finn. The "romance" was poorly written (like bad fanfic bad) making me scratch my head why Flinn has such a hardcore following and It didn't really add anything but some emo drama for Finn which it's nice to see him get character development but at times they laid it on a little thick. Then the whole dad thing added even more drama but at least it's handled better in my opinion. I feel like after the tower they should have stored his dad away for far into future episodes since it felt like closure only for him to be farted back into the story. Then the lemon grab thing. It feels like the show wants to focus on to many of the same things leading to some big whatever I can't stay invested in. We hardly get to see more of Jake's kids, Marceline's back story, FP (without Finn) and I dunno a Betty centred episode would be nice. Also what is with all the gaps in the new episodes? I'm sorry but I like this show and it's frustrating they can't make up their minds what kind of show they want to be. You want to be a wacky fun time show with deeper elements or do you want to be a gritty super cereal with comedy? I feel disjointed as fuck.
@PIEGUYRULZ

Bingo. There is no consistency in tone. Some parts of the show feel like they want to be a part of this big epic story line... but they never commit to it. All we get is like 5 episodes about Finns dad then it's dropped for a long time, or something like that. We have never gotten a long intricate interesting consistent storyline in the show. Even though at times it feels like that's what they're trying for
@GrandCorsair
@GrandCorsair 9 жыл бұрын
I kind of wished Finn dad had not came back since I feel like he is a unpleasant character or maybe because The Visitor killed any good will I had for him. I kind of annoyed more by Finn reaction. We get tons of episodes of him being emo about his 5 second crush but his border line abusive, manipulative and selfish dead beat dad seems be a slight annoyance to him. It's all nicely wrapped up in the tower. Am I missing something?

***** THANK YOU. You are spot-on about Flinn. It WAS fanfic bad and it was hard to believe it was coming from the same writers that previously wrote and developed characters so well. I had NO idea why it had the following that it did. Personally, I'm a Fubblegum fan and am glad to see it's making a small comeback. ;)
@GrandCorsair
@GrandCorsair 9 жыл бұрын
I'm not really on either shipping team but at the very least bubblegum and finn had more time to justify a romance developing. Time is something Flinn was lacking and it hurt any investment I had. They hook up way to fast and it gets way to serous to quickly. I think between how fast he feel "in love" and he reaction in Breezy that he is too immature and selfish to understand relationships right now. I think people like the idea of the Flinn romance but do not get that the relationship can't work. They still hardly have chemistry and they can never have a family or even a normal life together. I don't ever think I could be ok with them turning her human because she has found her place in the fire kingdom and she is perfect as the queen.

Thethreebrothers That was fun. It was cool that Finn finally got himself into a relationship.... but then the writers decided it would be a great idea to have him go insane, pit her and the Ice King in a fight together, and then pair her up with a giant stupid pastry for whatever reason...

***** For me, it was the episode "Lady and Peebles." In that one episode, out of the blue, PB becomes a one-woman army and bad ass who can handle herself in her fight against Ricardio, completely changing the show's main dynamic. With her sudden and permanent character change, by having her turn from the kindly and sweet bubblegum princess into the tough and manipulative princess we know her to be today (even Cinnamon Bun called her out to Flame Princess by point-blank saying she's devious), Jake and Finn became outdated, no small problem for the show. That episode started a poor and at times sudden trend in major shifts in characters' attitudes and relationships with one another.

sandiman21 Wait, *THAT"S* why PB is such a jerk now? I miss when she was an actual nice princess that needed saving. She had a personality, but no making her a jerk and throwing away all the things that makes her a good leader is the "best thing we can do for her." Having a nice, caring, good leader is too mainstream.

For me, I quit watching because it seems like now they're either trying too hard to outdo newer shows like Gravity Falls or Steven Universe, or they seem too lazy to even keep what they started going. I mean they had an arc stretching a few episodes where we find out Finn's dad is alive, and almost right away they find him, find out he is a jerk and Finn loses his arm. The big problem is they don't treat it carefully enough. It all happens too fast for me to really care that his dad treated him badly in that episode because it was just one episode (well, technically two 11-minute episodes). Once I finally started to feel bad for Finn not having an arm after a couple more episodes, the entire thing is fixed up almost as quickly as it started. He gets his arm back and his father, and that whole arc in general has been rarely brought up since, if at all. They tried so hard to give us an interesting story with twists and turns along the way, but they fell flat on their faces because they wanted to move on quickly enough to start another storyline for them to drop. They even got rid of one of their best characters (Prismo) and the show's arguable main villain (The Lich) all in the course of that 22-minutes, both of which were, again, handled poorly in my opinion.

***** Exactly. The plots and subplots Gravity Falls episodes have are what makes the show interesting, and what once made Adventure Time interesting. With Bill and the Agents you know there's a looming threat that could break its way into the story at any point, but Adventure Time lacks that nowadays. You know there's plot lines still hanging on by a thread that they could bring back and touch on more, but it doesn't happen as often as it should. It always seems like when the writers on Adventure Time create a new subplot they feel obligated to just get it over with and move on. That's why Gravity Falls and Steven Universe are my two favorite current cartoons, the main plot is always there in the background even if the episode doesn't focus on it, and you're on the edge of your seat when more about it is brought to the light.

FrequentNewt45 i think AT was meant to be episodic. These subplots are only used to expand the universe of this show and develop their characters. i agree that some could've been handled better, but AT was never story-centric. While Gravity Falls focus on developing a grand mystery (while also having fun episodes once in a while), AT focus on showing short stories that sometimes go further to its lore and their characters. It gives us something to explore and come up with theories of how things came about. At least that's what i think. Spoilers and don't worry about Prismo. He's alive! .... even the Lich. (kinda)

Sadly Regular Show has fallen down this road too. Well actually Regular Show isn't boring its just annoying watching where the show has left off with this whole Mordecai and Cj thing and Margaret being back. Maybe its just because I'm not a fan of those characters anymore.
@mr.marvin
@mr.marvin 9 жыл бұрын
My main problem with Regular Show nowadays are the romance and Muscle Man episodes. Season 4 was terrible because there were waaay to many episodes focusing on these two things. I know they wanted to add some character development, but they could've atleast tone it down instead of taking like 80% of the entire season. In that season they first introduced Thomas, and then he's entirely pointless for the rest of the show. It took them 2 seasons later to give him a proper character development. Also season 6 is starting to become annoying aswell, especially with the Mordecai and CJ drama episodes. CJ broke up with Mordecai TWICE this current season, it's like the writers are keep rehashing ideas and restart the whole thing over and over.. like they don't give a shit anymore. While there were some good episodes this current season and yes they were fantastic, but the problem is only like 9 episodes were enjoyable.. the rest were just dull like it really shows that the show has really gone stale.

Mayor Lexi :3 I stopped watching when Margret left. That wasn't necessary at all. It made me feel cheated. I was rooting for those two for whole seasons, and then they're just like "Nah, sorry Drakkona. We're writing her out of the show". Nowadays the show tries too hard to be serious. They also play it WAY too safe with the writing. The writers never had a problem with pushing the censors before (You've PISSED me off!), but now they try too hard to make it kid friendly. The show was for people in their teens, not their PREteens.

In full agreement. AT is no longer fun. It no longer works on the surface level. That level is what we would call the crazy, manic, eye popping, speed of light, overload your senses and pummel you into the ground with Finn and Jake talking in their incredible, outlandish invented language and singing all those super silly putty off key songs. All of it so wonderful. One never knew where we were going or when we would get there, turn a corner and you're in a room of monsters from the Id. But now we have "Stakes" whose narrative is slow, plodding, depressing, and works just like everything you have ever seen on TV. Boring for little children. Boring for old people who were so in love with AT. Its now clear that Ward was the singular creative genius behind AT and without him, AT is sadly at an end. (Tears emoji here)

Things change. The show's been on for over five years. I remember watching every Adventure Time episode the day it came out for 4 seasons straight. I stopped doing that when I stopped watching TV altogether. A month ago, I saw the wiki page for Adventure Time, and how Pendleton Ward stepped down. I was shocked that the show was still on. It just kills me to see this, a show I loved so much beginning to go down an awful road another certain show I loved so much went down. I am fairly uninformed, but even with little perspective, feel one thing is for sure. A lot of shows decline in quality, but I don't ever recall seeing one recover enough to live up to what they were. I hope it ends soon, based on what you have brought to attention here. If the episodes have lost their fun, then I'm sure the entire essence of its identity itself is what's going to be lost next.

50% of all good cartoons has gone downhill, i'm not kiding there's a list: - Adventure Time (Season 5) - SpongeBob (Season 6, duh) - Family Guy (Season 5) - Dexter Laboratory (Season 3) - Rugrats (Last seasons, don't remember) - Fairly OddParents (Late Season 5) - Simpsons (Season 12) - Camp Lazlo (Season 5) And there's more!

SBells27 I'd say Spongebob's decline began during Season 4. No, Season 4 wasn't a "bad" season, but that's where the quality began to drop before dramatically free-falling around Season 6. Rugrats got progressively worse after each movie. I agree that Fairly Odd Parents started to decline around the time of the Jimmy/Timmy Power Hour (Late Season 5) Family Guy started going downhill around the time it was canceled the first time. The point-of-no-return for me was Season 7. I don't really have anything to add for the other ones.

I feel as if you like the previous seasons of Adventure Time over the later ones because the earlier ones are far more expressive, lively, and childlike than the straight-faced, calmer, and mature episodes, although you can appreciate the latter. Personally, I like the direction where it has gone because I feel that there are plenty of cartoons out there today which are expressive, lively, and childlike, so the latter seasons of Adventure Time feel like a fresh alternative.
@Drakkona123
@Drakkona123 9 жыл бұрын
electricmastro Well, to me it just feels like it was bastardized into something it wasn't meant to be. The opposite happened with Yugioh. Season 0 was dark, had an interesting premise, and didn't revolve around a children's card game. It was interesting because you wanted to know more about the Millennium Puzzle and what sort of shadow game Yami Yugi would come up with next to beat his enemies (he fucking lights a guy on fire at the end of one of them!). Then suddenly it seemed like it was made for kids and the only game they ever played was Duel Monsters (product placement... ugh). The fans want to see one thing happen more, but if you give them too much of that, they might get sick of it and lose interest. With Yugioh it was Duel Monsters. With AT it was dark, foreshadowy undertones that hinted at tiny things that wouldn't matter for a whole 20 episodes.

The Otaku Dragon Slayer I Am A Sword was AMAZING. Also, I think the art of AT has gone down, but they are bringing it back kinda with The Thin Yellow Line's facial expressions and I Am A Sword's facial expressions. Now, I hated the art in Broke His Crown. It just seemed lazy and plain.

Season 6 is kinda like art school. Every once in awhile it can produce something deep, heartfelt, and beautiful but everything else comes off and pretentious and unfocused. Personally I think The Tower and Breezy are some of the best episodes of series but all the episodes I don't like are some of the worst . I think if they brought to amount of episodes back to 26 instead of 52 and increased production time for season 7 it could potentially be very effectively cinematic and well made but if the show continues at this rate and quality season 7 will more than likely be it's last. I don't think the show has gotten bad. Its just really unfocused.

***** I think something as well changed when Rebecca Sugar left. See, Rebecca Sugar wrote and storyboarded some of the best episode of the series, in my opinion, (What Was Missing, I Remember You, Fionna and Cake 1 and 2, etc) Once she left, the show, I think, lost it deepness...value, if you will. (With the exception of Betty, which I believe is amazing) Might just be me, though. Not sure.

I think it's now just a completely different cartoon now. You can notice now that most season 6 (and some of 5) episodes are more dialogue heavy and the energy packed in the animation and artstyle has slowed down a bit. The show was more high spirited and was emblematic of a child's naivete and sense of adventure. Now it deals with the existential angst and nihilism that comes with growing up (Finn is seeing the world differently). I think season 6 has been the most inconsistent season of adventure time so far but it still had great episodes .

I feel like I actually am the opposite. I really enjoy the change, because when I used to watch the earlier episodes with my brother, they weren't as interesting to me. Sure, they were fun, but most of them weren't deep enough for me. I like the earlier seasons, but I'm really enjoying it now. I like the episodes that balance humor and the deeper meanings/ character studies etc.. I don't particularly like how they have many different arcs going on before resolving them, but I've learned to live with it and enjoy it a little more.

I'm currently on Season 5 at the moment, so I have some catching up to do, but I like the more somber direction it's taking. Some people are saying that the show has become "pretentious", which is a word that is getting overused to the point where it's meaningless, but I like the deeper stories and the focus on something more character-driven. I merely feel like the show is growing with its audience, which is not something a lot of cartoons do. And people are comparing its supposed declining quality to that of Spongebob, but keep in mind that these are two completely different types of shows. And I at least get the feeling that the writers of Adventure Time are trying, unlike the people on Spongebob. "Astral Plane" was one of my favorite episodes, simply because of how somber, quiet, and reflective it was. Where we get to see Finn as an invisible outsider looking into the lives of various people. It felt very deep to me, and it was fun to see Finn have these existential thoughts. I understand where you guys are coming from, but I feel like the show is still fun and well-written, and it definitely still has its charm. It's just more mature and tackles more serious topics now. I mean, how boring would the Harry Potter books/movies be if the characters never grew or if the plots didn't become more serious and somber? But I definitely hate how the writers tease certain plot points and don't follow through until twenty episodes later. It was endearing at first, but now it's becoming annoying. Keep in mind that I say this as someone who used to absolutely hate Adventure Time and what it stood for. I thought that it was just random nonsense that was causing every cartoon to solely rely on "random humor" (which I'm not a fan of), and I did not see the appeal in the show. But then I actually watched it, and heard about the Ice King's back story, and I absolutely fell in love with it. It wasn't my favorite show, but I grew to respect it. I don't think the show is that funny, but I found its uniqueness and charm very enjoyable. But it's not for everyone, I get it. But all in all, me personally, I would rather see a show try new things and experiment and evolve than see a show stagnate.

+RyanX1231 100% agreed, and I feel this way about the sixth season as well. Said it numerous times already, but the climax of season 6 was one of the best episodes in the entire series by far. As a whole, i'd say that some episodes of season 6 are weaker than others, but I can literally say that about every single show (Cartoon or live action) that i've ever watched, and of course can say that same about seasons 1-5 of Adventure Time. I think a solid job has been done of allowing a cartoon character to actually grow with the audience watching in a very unique way. The show starts off as literally just a bunch of random events happening to a kid. You then have these things building up over time, where more and more of what's happening begins to effect him. Not only because what's happening is some dark stuff, but because he personally is older and able to better comprehend what's going on around him. The series therefore does get darker than it once was, just like actual life becomes more serious as a person gains more responsibility. However, there are still many times that you have those classic episodes based around fairly simple adventuring, with little to no connection to the greater plot that's going on that seasion.

in my opinion I think seasons 5 - 7 are better than seasons 1 - 4. I think that Adventure Time still maintains a very entertaining surface level for example episode Simon & Marcy which in my opinion is the best Adventure Time episode ever had a lot of action and an amazing surface level but at the same time changes how you look at the characters The Ice King and Marceline and they become more interesting than Finn the main character HOW DOES THAT HAPPEN! Before Ice King was just the crazy antagonist that steals princess and Marceline was a vampire that's it. But I would agree that the surface level in seasons 1 - 4 were better than seasons 5 - 7.

Finally someone who understood my dilemma with this show lately, me and my friend have been talking about how AT lost its sense of balance. Before, this show balanced its silliness, grown up stuffs, lessons, and deep meanings with sheer brilliance. This show changed the genre of cartoons. Now the stories are just like from old books that English teachers would want us to study coz they have so depth into them alongside with their meanings. Whoever are the current writers they're like an English teacher's wet dream. It's just so boring now...

I do still like Adventure time, but I agree that it definitely has changed. I wouldn't say that it's exactly boring nowadays. There are some episodes I find really interesting like the one where Jake was a brick. It was like an old radio show and it kept me wondering what would happen. But it does feel it's trying a bit too hard to be deep, sacrificing some of the silliness in the process. I also find myself not being as invested in it as I used to. At first I though it was my tastes changing, but after a watching shows like Steven Universe and also going back to the earlier AT seasons I realized that, yeah, Adventure Time just wasn't the same. I read somewhere that the show was supposed to mature as Finn matured (don't quote me on that) but it just feel like it's trying too hard to be deep and intellectual. Maybe it has something to do with Pen Ward stepping down, maybe it doesn't. I dunno. But I agree. Adventure Time just isn't the same show that I originally fell in love with. Those are just my thoughts, though.

It's super awesome how Adventure Time's level in writting is inproving so much to the point that CASUAL viewers can't understand the simpliest of things, like the fact that the show somehow is having more focus on drama than comedy (just like Hey Arnold) without being too serious about it, wich is, in subjetive terms; entertaining. We can have silly adventurous episodes sometimes like Walnuts & Rain (and it was a perfect episode) but i also love the way they creativily portrait deeper themes in episodes like The Mountain or Astral Plane (GOD BLESS JESSE).

In the show's defense, it's growing up with the audience it tarted with. I watched the show when I was 10 (when the show started) and really enjoyed it. However, nowadays I can't really sit through the old episodes. But now I'm maturing, and the show is too. True it's not as silly as it used to be, but you can't expect a person in their twenties to act like they're 5. And you can't expect Adventure Time to act like it's older self because it is maturing. I thoroughly enjoy the new and old episodes. Not saying you're wrong, but I believe that this show still has plenty of steam to burn.

I started at 11 when it came out, to me the entire show is a metaphor that life may seem simple as a young kid but as you grow up you learn that it is a much darker place where conflict becomes less black and white and you need to figure out which shade of grey you will belong to. However season 6 feels like an unorganized mess to me, I do love some episodes but it just doesn't feel as planned as it used to for me.

Like show me the meteor, not jake being a stupid brick in a wall(was so bored that entire episode. Like honestly, what was the point of that episode) Also kind of upset how much they drop plot points. Like with Jake being a dad. They kept that plot for like 1 episode and then the kids are finally grown up. Like seriously, what was the point of him having kids if there just going to grow up in 1 episode

This is what i have been saying! Its called "Adventure Time" for goodness sake! i remember getting into because it just reminded me of the careless imagination i had when i was a kid, Random, funny and goofy. Then they took a turn in making everything deep and somber in way way where you have to interoperate and connect the dots. That's not why people watch something called "Adventure time" they watch it to escape reality for 15min and remember simpler times of pure enjoyment. If the creators wanted to make a deep show with depth they should have create another one instead of poisoning an uplifting show. This is my opinion and its nice to know I'm not the only one who thinks this. Hate it or Love it!

The show is seemingly starting to draw to a close. The top layer is missing because it's not the focus at this point. Given the fact that the story and mystery of adventure time both seem to be ending, and the fact that the shows original creator stopped caring back in season 4, and just O.K.'s episodes at this point, it makes sense that adventure time would loose a bit of charm. I don't know, Adventure time seems like the kind of show where this would be a down point, but they could easily turn it around for the final stretch of the show. I'll keep watching, simply because I want to know what the writers are going to end off with. Plus I still love the show.

This video still nails the problems with Adventure Time on head. Those first 4 seasons were really just fun. They put you into a good mood. Now they feel like they are trying really hard to be "deep". Adventure Time used to be an entertaining cartoon, and now it's kind of an overly long and drawn out indie comic. Where there has to be some deeper more progressive meaning hammered into your skull. Just a few days ago an episode in season called Varmints was released. It was for all purposes really good. It had a lot of silliness in it, and overall had some entertaining moments that seemed to play homage to old horror movies. Mind you that fun was interrupted quite frequently with PB and Marceline getting err.... deep.... or ... hot and heavy. Pushing that "past relationship" dynamic between the two up for debate again (where "What was missing" played it up tongue and cheek style, this episode kind of is a lot less subtle). It ruined the fun cause I just felt something was being pushed or interrupted all the other fun and cool things going on. It's just a shame cause the episode came so close to the old AT vibe.

Personally I think that the fatigue started showing in Season 5, but Season 6 really was a bust and for the reasons this video mentions. A lot of the camaraderie between Finn and Jake is more or less gone. The show used to literally be called "Adventure Time with Finn & Jake" and a lot of the best episodes still are in those first 3-4 seasons. Mind you this is because Finn & Jake were going off on adventures. The show started to put more effort into being 'deep' then being entertaining. And for whatever reason separating our two main stars. Jake and Finn kind of do their own things now in episodes. Like Jake in experiencing life as a brick, or Finn working out his missing arm issues..... In a lot of ways Finn and Jake are weakened as characters when not talking with each other. When they aren't working out their life problems together. Not to mention the weakest episodes usually are the ones where they are missing completely and you end up with Bubblegum and Flame Princess working out their issues or Peppermint Buttlers episode Nemesis. UNghhh.......

Adventure time is still my favourite show because I grew up with it. A lot of others did, but this is different. I was/am/always will be adventure times number 1 fan. It's my go to word. Never mind, anyway I like how I matured with it. When I was a kid, everything was bright. My life was as bright as adventure time was at the time. Now I'm a teen, and despite how nice life is, it's a bit darker. The middle was bad, like the series. Then, we matured together... I know this is weird... But my life has a strange connection. I sorta think I might be/related to Finn. Not connected, but i learnt that today. I pictured myself in my element. Long hair flowing back, clasped behind a red messed up ribbon. Sword in hand, looking for monsters in a cave. I also realised that if anyone sent me here, it was PB. Then I realised if it was at any time, it would be round season 4. Round when Finn started being different... When the season turned dark..and so did my life. But if I was teleported my mind would be erased and but that would be around season 7. Ok I'm going to deep in the wrong puddle.. Anyway I MAY be Finn. All I know, is that if I am, like in wreck it Ralph, I need to return before we get the plug pulled. Anyway... I matured with adventure time. It's loyal to me more than anything has been before... Apart from my BFFS who look suspicious everytime I mention it. Ecpecially Finn this weird girl I remember or Jake. Whatever. If any of you in adventure time opolis are reading remember, I love you.. Eh. Too mushy's gross. Anyway. I grew up with it. And I don't know why I wrote that

I think the darker direction the show's taking is the reason why I think right now it's the best it's ever been. Admittedly, this is probably because I never really got into it until around Season 5 when I watched "I Remember You" and "Simon and Marcy" for the first time when they aired it back to back. The only episodes I didn't like this season were "Princess Day", for feeling too mean, and "The Mountain", which I still don't fully understand. I personally didn't think that "Jake the Brick" was trying to have some sort of philosophical meaning, it just made me happy all throughout, probably because I'm a sucker for cute critters. "Friends Forever" actually resonated with me because I felt I could relate to Ice King's situation. I know what's it like to feel like an outsider among a group of peers, I can understand why someone as unstable as him would react the way he did. I dunno, I always felt that Ice King's episodes are among the highlights of the series. I also like that they've given ridiculous characters like the Ancient Psychic Tandem War Elephant and Cuber legitimate character arcs. The only sign of seasonal rot I've seen is in the more recent Lemongrab episodes. It feels like they don't really know what to do with him anymore. Also, I think they're trying to balance the serious stuff with sillier, more recent episodes like "Walnuts and Rain" and "Chips and Ice Cream". I dunno, I personally think episodes like "Jermaine" and "Friends Forever" proves that they're still more than capable of writing funny episodes with good storytelling, but that's just me.

really the only episodes i liked after season four were the "finn the human"/"jake the dog" episodes. they really put me on the edge of my seat and i was absolutely intrigued by them. i had already been a pretty hardcore at fan before that, but those episodes are probably my favorite episodes of ANY tv show to this day. but after that...my interest in the show started going wayyy downhill. the whole flame princess love story thing was cliche and boring and killed my interest in adventure time as a whole. really the only other episodes i enjoyed from that season were "five more short graybles" and "wizards only, fools". it just makes me sad that a show i practically WORSHIPPED lost its magic so fast.

I totally agree with you, PieGuy. Season 6 is the first season I've really been turned away from. Everything just seems way too serious and I feel like it's trying a bit too hard to be philosophical. (Though I am still a sucker for "Breezy")

Similar to Dexter's Laboratory and the Powerpuff girls, (who also had inferior seasons when there creators weren't heavily involved with them) Adventure Time is now running on life-support, heck CN isn't showing as many re-runs of it then they use to. Hopefully if and when the movie comes out, it will not only have the same magic that made us love the original 4 seasons so much, but will serve as a series finale.

It is like an animated soap opera now. Except the characters and universe did not start out as soap opera characters or universe. It is a bit blah. I really miss how it was. I guess it makes sense that Finn would grow and the show would get deeper. It seemed to go at a fast rate. Finn really is not like his old self at all. It's strange. People grow but not like that. However the show is kind of relaxing. I kind of like that, when I want to watch a somber, relaxing cartoon. Which is not very often.

I personally disagree. I really enjoy that deeper level of Adventure Time. That's whats always hooked me about the show imo. The surface level stuff was enjoyable to me when I was younger but that got tiresome for me after a while. I really do like how interesting the lore can be and how deep you can get into analyzing them. I feel as though I really would have lost interest in the show had it stayed the same lol so random humor for all time. The newer seasons of adventure time have been great for me. What bugs me is that seemingly everyone dislikes the current seasons because it no longer has that wackiness to it. I liken it to wanting only to eat dessert all the time. I will admit though, AT has always frustrated me with how they leave plot points dangling forever only to get back to them seemingly at random.

I don't understand what is wrong with season 6. In my opinion, the people who don't like season 6 can't get used to change. One of the creators, Adam Muto, said him and the writers wanted to make season more plot-based. I think this was a smart move because it really set up events for future episodes, and season 7. This video really should be titled (What I think about AT season 6), because that's just it, what you think about season 6. The way the title worded makes it sound as if this video is fact, but it rather isn't. Also, many other fans of AT really loved season 6. There, of course, were still plenty of adventures, just not as much as in the seasons before. And people have to understand this isn't too big of a deal, as long as there were some. Especially near the end were lots of adventures. Example: Jake the Brick might not have been a full on physical adventure, but was really an entertaining and funny episode. There also was "Wake Up" and "Escape from the Citadel" which were both fantastic, "The Tower" which was funny and really cool to see Finn get a temporary arm, and "Something Big" was awesome because we got to see a cool fight, and it also set up for a possible return of Maja the Sky Witch. Also, don't forget "Is That You?, which is really good in brining the return of a major, more powerful character. It also helped setup for the episode "Crossover" which is to premiere Thursday (I've already seen it though. It's really good). Adventure Time is slowly changing, mainly because: 1. Finn, and other characters, are slowly growing up and maturing much more. This is what happens with people in real life, they mature. It can't all be fun and games. I think that there were some bad episodes though, such as "Breezy." I knew Finn was going to get his arm back, but I thought in a much cooler way. Not by it becoming a tree. And "Sad Face" was pretty much pointless too. Though, the thing is, AT got lots of its "charm" back in season 7. It's really funny, and has more adventures. But season 6 was just as good. My final words are this: people who are fans of the show need to learn to accept change. The show is changing, and while it may not all be fun and games, it still can be damn good. Yes, we all love to see adventures, but that doesn't mean we need deeper episodes too. But people who don't like to look at "deeper" episodes because it requires thought are ridiculous. who knows, maybe the rest of season 7 will be what people want. And there also is season 8 to look forward too (yes, it has been confirmed there is a season 8).

Ah the good ol' "You just don't like change" argument. Yes, this video is all my opinion. Yes, plenty of people liked season six. I give my reasons for disliking it, and I'm not alone. It's fine that we disagree, but please don't frame me as just not able to accept change. I would be so on board with "story focused" Adventure Time, if the writing was actually good.

***** I'm not saying you're not able to accept change, I'm saying most people who did not like season 6 could not accept change. And the writing in season 6 was excellent. I thought it was spot on in many episodes. In the episode "Jake the Brick," it is like the writers first made the script into a short story. It had so much quality and descriptions. I feel as if the show is to go on further, it has to change its point of view. Instead of all fun and adventuring, it needs to be (and has in an excellent way) a little adventuring, and a little plot-based. I think the intro of many new characters was good, as it gave us more ideas into the world of Ooo.

+nickrulercreator It's not the change that put off numerous AT fans from Season 6. It's just that, there have been some glaring problems surfacing up around Season 5.2 and were being carried onto Season 6, such as the excessive amount of filler, along with some serious character derailment and frequent waste of potential that drove a large portion of the fanbase away. Essentially, the show has been succumbing to the Status Quo, which isn't a good sign most of the time. If you're gonna have filler, you should either be funny/entertaining, or just stick to the damn plot. If you're just gonna be depressing all the time, it's only going to get really pretentious and will just end up wasting your audience's time, as well as pissing them off. Steven Univer only spends roughly 5-10 episodes of filler, with the plot being occasionally acknowledged. AT's problem is that it seems to take like 20-50 episodes just to even bother continuing or resolving something, which is a massive problem if you're reliant on storytelling. And then we're onto Character Derailment. The worst offenders/examples? Finn, ever since Frost and Fire, is either depressingly mopey, or is an insensitive pervert who cannot care about Flame Princess' honest feelings towards him, and sometimes, he only cares about getting the girl instead of helping out others in need, which is an outright violation of his established characterization of being bound to his moral codes. Then you have Princess Bubblegum either being a stuck-up jerkass who never gets some form of retribution, or a Big Brother type dictator who makes Starlight Glimmer look like a saint. On the objective side of my argument, Season 7 does appear to be remedying some of the damage Season 6 caused, but it still has a long way to go to genuine redemption for most of its' older audience.
@CartoonFan1994
@CartoonFan1994 8 жыл бұрын
Matt Greer The filler is mainly about that instead of addressing the story's elephants in the room, like Simon, Flame Princess, or Marceline, they introduce way too many one-off characters like Jake's Tail, Shelby's Tail, and Root Beer Guy, who contribute little to nothing to the overarching plot. Not all filler episodes are bad, per say. However, most of Adventure Time's 5th and 6th Seasons' filler was far too pretentious and was hardly funny, which is a big problem if you want to entertain both audiences. At least My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic knows how to be funny and productive with it's filler. Adventure Time has no excuse for it's fuckup. It had essentially become the Naruto of Western Animation, when it comes to pretentiously unproductive filler. Steven Universe's filler, on the other hand, would generally focus on it's established main cast, not just on Steven and/or the Crystal Gems, but also including Connie, Greg, Lars, and even Renaldo in the spotlight from time to time.

+Julie Pugatch so true but i feel like Adventure time could go back to normal again if Finn makes his own decisions in his future. He could change his destiny later on as he ages. Sadly, we got to wait until that happens since he's 16. Finn might explore space because he might let go of the fear of the unknown. Maybe that's why Finn has a lot or little astral dreams like that time Finn visited Glob. Could Finn's Real Adventure start as he explores space?

I agree, the new episodes seem to have lost the charming witty humor of seasons past, it tries too much to be philosophical, coupled with a hyper-surrealistic execution and a sombre atmosphere, the story telling feels heavy handed (I used to greatly admire how they manage to balance emotional depth, complex story lines and non-sensical but effective humor), I tried getting back into it recently after convincing myself I may have judged the new season too soon and with a bit of prejudice over the original crew leaving (Pen Ward - stepped down as show runner / Pat McHale - Former Creative Director / Rebecca Sugar - Former Storyboard Artist and Song Writer/ Natasha Allegri - Former Storyboard Revisionist and Character Designer), but I was honestly surprised at how difficult it was to power through a single episode, it felt like a chore, some even verging on torturous (Lemon Hope and Sad Face had been a test of patience and will for me) So much as I would have liked the series to have been wrapped up before things changed so drastically, I do think it's found a different audience now and for that reason I think it's something i'll just have to let go of, remember fondly for what it used to be, and let others enjoy.

I feel as if Adventure Time doesn't care about the wacky sense of adventure anymore. I mean thinking about the title, *Adventure* Time. Let me say that again *ADVENTURE* Time. Maybe the new writters would rename the show Romance Time or something like that if they could. I don't care about Finn being depressed because he can't find love. I don't care about all these new characters. I just care about Finn, Jake, PB, Marceline, Ice King, and maybe LSP going on adventures! FUN FACT: The Simon&Marcy storyline came because the team needed a reason for Ice King to know "The Fry Song" (not to say that that's bad).

I still think AT is a great show, with quality episodes! That being said I do agree with PIEGUY on some topics, like there being some unlikable, confusing, mellow, episodes this season... That being said there have only 11 episodes this season that haven't featured Finn and Jake out of 35... And 29 of those 35 episodes I thought were great! Wake Up, Escape from the Citadel, The Tower, Breezy, Food Chain, Furniture and Meet, The Prince Who Wanted Everything, Something Big, Little Brother, Ocarina, Joshua and Margaret Investigations, Ghost Fly, Everything's Jake, Is That You, Jake The Brick, Dentist, The Cooler, The Pajama War, Evergreen, Astral Plane, Gold Stars, The Visitor, The Diary, Walnuts and Rain, Jermaine, Chips and Ice cream, Graybles 1000+. These are all of the episodes in Season 6 of AT that I really enjoyed, right here is a total of 29 out of the 35 episodes. So far this Season has been a B+ for me. I'm still loving AT and can't wait to see what's next! I also really enjoy; Over The Garden Wall, Regular Show, Steven Universe, Gravity Falls, Rick and Morty, Harvey Beaks, Bojack Horseman, and Clarence! I feel that most of the Cartoons on cable, and or online like Netflix, are really great! Super happy to be apart of such an awesome generation of cartoons! (Lots of variety!) :D

You know, I was one of those people that didn't like Adventure Time because of how stupid and silly it was, specially on it's first 3 seasons. It had a bunch of episodes where stuff was happening and then the episode would just....end, or the ending would be hijacked by someone or something. I just didn't like most of the episodes from the first 3 seasons, plus Finn was a really annoying character. Season 4 started to bring up interesting subplots to the table. It brought up Marceline's relation to Simon, and it explored the Simon subplot more than the first 3 seasons did. I started to gain some faith in Adventure Time, as I felt that the combination of humor and plot was getting better and better. Then it came, the whole arm-foreshadowing thing. It was foreshadowed since Season 1 that Finn would lose his arm, and at the beginning of Season 6, it finally happened. I was really excited to know what they would do with that and the whole Marvin thing, as he essentially was the reason Finn lost his arm in the first place. I wanted to know how this would affect Finn emotionally, how it would affect his feelings towards his dad, etc. We got the episode "The Tower" that focused on Finn's obsession of losing his arm and wanting to rip his dad's arm off, which was great!.....Then Breezy came around, 3 episodes after Finn lost his arm. Finn regains his arm and the subplot is concluded. In 3 freaking episodes. That's when I realized that Adventure Time either never follows up to the subplots they established, take forever to do so, or just throw them out the window like they did here. Finn doesn't give a crap about Marvin, unless he meets him again in some episode, and even when he does, he just ditches him at the end. Finn doesn't care about his father and his own past, Marvin doesn't care about Finn, NO ONE CARES ABOUT ANYTHING. And that's what bothers me the most with this show, things get established but no one gives a crap about them.

I stopped watching Adventure Time a while ago because of many of the reasons that you mentioned in this video. Plot points take way too long to actually come to fruition, the characters are starting to tread the same water that they have many times before and it's just not engaging anymore because it feels like it wants to end, but it just can't get there because of how much they want to pad it out because they don't have an ending yet and I actually told a friend of mine recently that while SU seems like it has had it's ending planned out from day one, Adventure Time doesn't know what it's ending will be and is right now just trying to create this huge plot points to bring them all into one ending that they might just pull out of nowhere five years from now. I'll watch the movie when it comes out like you are PieGuy, but I wish that the show would improve instead of..well..not. But as for Regular Show, well, that's an entirely different story.

You know what you said about Adventure Time having had a surface layer that was fun and a deeper layer that was more meaningful? That's what I think is in Regular Show and has made that one of my favorite cartoons of all time. There are entertaining stories in that show, but a lot of them also have some kind of meaning regarding the characters or some kind of social commentary. They can also do parodies of movies but actually be subtle about it so that you don't have to know the reference to like the episode, unlike that hour long episode of Sam and Cat that you reviewed a while back. In fact, I think RS is in its best season. I'm very against the notion that a show HAS to go downhill if it becomes a long runner, but I'm aware it happens very often. I'm not caught up on AT, so I can't give an opinion there, but I have seen at least some episodes of season 5, and I remember still liking it. Also, even if the show's not very good at what it's doing now, you certainly have to be glad that such a popular cartoon is taking such a serious route. That's the kind of influence we need, because for the longest time, cartoons have been defined in the West as being silly slapstick aimed to pander for little kids, and it took Ren and Stimpy and Simpsons to begin the slow recovery. I'd much rather have a bad show have good influence down the line, than a good show that will have bad influence down the line. Adventure Time was very important because it started the slow increase of cartoons with more focus on story than comedy. Without it, things like Gravity Falls, Steven Universe, Over the Garden Wall, Rick and Morty, and BoJack Horseman wouldn't exist. This could be the Ren and Stimpy of the 2010s in the sense of having some negative influence (Ren and Stimpy popularized gross out, and Adventure Time popularized made up slang), but outweighted by good influence (Ren and Stimpy showed that a kids' cartoon can appeal to adults, that a TV cartoon can have very good animation, and it did a lot to fight against censorship, whereas Adventure Time is hopefully going to cause a push towards more serious cartoons). Even if the show has gone downhill, if it has the right influence, it'll all be worth it. Then again, apparently Toddler Titans is now the highest rated show on the network, and is taking up the timeslots that used to belong to Adventure Time and Regular Show, so in all probability the network's about to enter another dark phase if they let that show take them in the wrong direction. When it debuted, I was afraid of it killing off superhero cartoons for good, and it has, but it's not even going to stop there. I usually try to be as pessimistic as possible, but I wasn't pessimistic enough with that show.

You know, I think this is part of the reason I can't get back into the show. I believe you hit the nail on the head. I would like to piggy back off that theory in fact. I think the thing Adventure Time lost was it's innocence. It's also why Steven Universe gets away with it's darker themes. Steven, Finn, and Jake's innocence was the main thing that contrasted the dark undertones in both shows. In Steven Universe, we see the world through Steven's eyes. The eyes of a ten year old who's living his dream of being a magical warrior, similar to Finn and Jake in Adventure Time. However in Adventure Time you're literally in a fantasy world of cotton candy and rainbows where the good guys always win. This is why the Lich worked so well. It not only ripped the world apart, it broke our heroes down completely. It made you, the viewer rethink this fantasy world. The most important thing here is that it happen in one moment. Sure there was a build up for it, but notice that show never focused on just that build up. The build up was literally random moments in the entire series up to that point. The only full episodes dedicated to building up the Lich were the ones showing the world falling apart before the reveal. He tears Billy's face off. The hero that our heroes looked up to. It shatter the viewers and the protagonist's fantasy. You didn't see it coming because the show never made you believe that it was mature enough to pull that off. Now it's like the show has become self aware of how deep it is, and instead of trying to present itself as an innocent cartoon, it's trying to be deep. Like I said it works for Steven, but here's the big difference: Steven has never had his innocence taken away. He's been sad, hurt, betrayed, heart broken, scared, but he's never curled up in a ball, given up, and cried for an entire episode. Steven Universe works because there is the perpetual innocence in Steven. He's never change even when he's an adult. That one episode where Steven grows up in a day is sad because everyone in his world tries to make him "act" like an adult, but even he's about to die he is still retains the innocence of a ten year old boy. Every time life tries break Steven down. he never gives in. He's always optimistic, and never falls into a depression. Therefore there will always be that innocence to contrast the darkness of the world in that show. I think Adventure Time never recovered from the Lich. It seems like now the show is just pretending to be innocent. Honestly, while I would not have ended the show at the Lich, I would let the Lich be the thing that ends the show. Innocence was the one theme that both shows used to contrast the evilness of their worlds. Once it's gone it will never come back, and Steven hasn't lost his.

Something I notice in many cartoons where romance is a thing, is they never want the main character to actually be in a relationship they're happy with. Romantic relationships NEVER work out in these kinds of shows. It's really just more annoying than investing to see the main character dismantle their entire relationship with a character in trying to be close to them (Finn, I'm looking at you). It needs to be known that people like to see things work out, right now Adventure time is going through a sludge of making everything fall apart just to EVENTUALLY bring it back up, but the problem is that it takes TOO FUCKING LONG, and it leaves huge areas where you just feel more upset than anything else. I don't watch cartoons to feel annoyed and depressed. There should be conflict, not everything should work out, but making it so NOTHING works out and no-one is happy is not a good philosophy.

Sounds similar to how comic books handle relationships.

Is it just me or do I think Finn's dad isn't his real dad. As soon as he was introduced, I was like, "HELL NAW ADVENTURE TIME GET THIS SHIT AWAY FROM MY FACE" because I was sure that was some imposter playing along with Finn's speculation to get trust.

Guess these episodes were either Mehventures or Scumventures! Get it? But seriously though, I too gave up on this show a long time ago

icecream hero BORRRRIINNNGGG! It's about Jake's tail going to the circus. It hardly had any jokes and was just trying to be artsy but it was just dumb and un interesting. Worst episode ever!

Adventure Time grows up with its audience, Finn started as a kid, and now he's a teenager. Season 6 blew me away in the way that the newer seasons of South Park blew me away! It's all connected! It was building up to something! The comet. That being said, season 6 wasn't as funny, or fun as the previous seasons.. but season 7 has gone back to basics, and adventure time is fun again 😊

I definitely had the problem of its somber tone as well, though, I think what killed AT for me was how quickly it got complicated. I missed a few episodes because I had other things on my mind at the time, and when I tried to sit down and watch a new episode I had no idea what the hell was happening. Every time I got close to getting caught up something else just made it more complex and I gave up trying to watch it religiously. It stopped being fun to sit around and watch. The only episodes I still watch are the Fiona and cake episodes because they're silly and enjoyable like the original intent of the show and the stories with Simon and/or Marceline-because I genuinely care about the two characters and formed a real connection with them.

I agree on you not watching AT again. I used to kinda like AT, as I watched several season 1 episodes during 2013 or 2014 (But it was a INCREDIBLY select few), but I ran out of interest incredibly fast because, well, I have a short attention span. Most of the time. I've also seen snippits of the later seasons, and it was just awfully BORING. Therefore, I am completely fine with your choice on not to watch it, slightly relieved infact.

DUDE, YOU HIT IT RIGHT ON THE FUCKING NAIL. My exact thoughts too. Adventure Time just feels so empty now. I was watching and episode and I described it as "static" it doesn't do anything, it's just kinda there.

I didn't want to believe it but you're right adventure time just isn't fun anymore. I just feel so bummed out when I see new episodes. It's so unfortunate that this had to happen to an amazing cartoon. :(
