fun fact about finn's arm: they actually gave it back to him so fast because cartoon network didn't want them changing the main character's design. they were able to take it away permenantly since the show was ending, and probably wasn't as big of a money maker at that point

Finn supposedly getting his arm back never bothered me for a few different reasons. First, the psychological damage that resulted from Martin's abandonment was ultimately more important to Finn's existential crisis arc than the physical loss of his arm. Even after "Breezy", Finn is still shown to be mentally off balance in multiple episodes, and his hangups with Martin aren't fully resolved until "The Comet". It also tied in well thematically with what the episode was trying to convey. Perhaps most importantly, he never technically regained his arm to begin with. What happened at the end of "Reboot" wasn't just a retcon; the fact that the Grass Sword was simply imitating his arm was immediately foreshadowed by the thorn that remained in his palm. We are reminded of the thorn when Finn wakes up from some kind of nightmare and clutches his arm in "Is That You?", he was still missing his arm in his psychedelic hallucination from "The Mountain", and it ends up being the tool he needs to defeat Orgalorg in the finale. I wouldn't exactly call Orgalorg a great antagonist, but I think he was used in a serviceable manner throughout the second half of season 6. He made a cameo in "Gold Stars" when The Lich described the Lovecraftian monstrosities that existed before time, then he manipulated the Cosmic Owl into sabotaging Princess Bubblegum's prophetic dream. His backstory was revealed in "Orgalorg", he initiated his plan and orchestrated the end of her reign in "Hot Diggity Doom", and was only defeated in "The Comet" due to being cut apart from the inside by Finn's grass arm. What more was really needed? Perhaps there could have been a prolonged cosmic battle in the season finale, but that's not what the writers wanted to focus on; the most important element in "The Comet" was for Finn to resolve his existential crisis and come to terms with who his father really is. The stuff with Orgalorg and the comet was basically meant to provide a backdrop for this plot point. I hope these posts didn't come off as too defensive, I just really like discussing this show. Great work on the video.

I appreciate that you're going by the seasonal structure that was intended by the writers; it makes much more sense than CN's alterations. As much as I've defended and praised the darker, more existential approach taken by the show in season 6, I also really like the stronger focus on story arcs throughout the latter parts of season 7 and all of 8. There are some plot points that I think could have been executed better in season 9, but I'm still enjoying it. I'm hyped to see how they conclude things in "Come Along With Me", whenever Cartoon Network finally decides to air it.

In my opinion, Season 6 is nice. Some inconsistent episodes, but it bringes a lot of reflections and a great Finn's development. Also, since the season four there's episodes where Finn and Jake are not the focus. The history is not just about Finn and Jake more, it became a story about The Land Of Ooo's citizens. Season 7 is a masterpiece. They mixed the old comedy from season 1 and deep moments from season 6 in this season. The same with 8 and 9 season. Great video, btw.
@robbywilliamson41526 жыл бұрын
I get why the direction season 6 went in wouldn't appeal to everyone, but I think "abysmal" is a pretty harsh descriptor. I would honestly go as far as to call it one of my favorites from Adventure Time. Sure, episodes like "Sad Face" and "Princess Day" weren't very good, and "Water Park Prank" is arguably the worst the show has ever gotten, but it also has many episodes that I would consider to excellent and thought-provoking. For me, episodes like "Wake Up/Escape from the Citadel", "The Tower", "Breezy" (despite the controversy), "Joshua & Margaret Investigations", "Is That You?", "The Cooler", "The Pajama War", "Astral Plane", "Jermaine", "Graybles 1000+", "Hoots", and "You Forgot Your Floaties" more than make up for the season's shortcomings.

Seasons ranked 1. Season 8 (near-perfect television, I love EVERY episode, except for Islands pt. 8) 2. Season 6 (very brave season, unconventionally portraying the spiritual and metaphysical in the storytelling, despite risking alienating many fans) 3. Season 7 (a great story-driven season, simpler and more focussed, with some duds) 4. Season 5 (really ambitious and fantastic, may have bitten off more than it could chew, but great balance between one-offs, characters pieces, lore-dumps, and story arcs. 5. Season 4 (beginning the shift, more character and story arcs, with epic worldbuilding and higher stakes) 6. Season 3 (peak early AT, great stories, lots of heart) 7. Season 2 (improved with more character development than S1) 8. Season 1 (just really funny and imaginative)

I'm glad you agree that the last few seasons have been great, I had a feeling you would. Season 8 is my personal favourite of the entire show because of the two miniseries', as well as Fern's arc (who is my favourite character). Also Finn's arm being grass was always the plan ever since Breezy, when we could see a little thorn in his palm after he pulled off the tree bark to find a new arm had grown. We don't see the thorn again until Is That You? and we see it once more in The Comet, where we find out it's made of grass. Side note; in the Season 6 episode the mountain there is some clear foreshadowing in the form of a sort of dungeon test which includes a small Finn with one arm running on a big Finn's with one arm's stub. The thorn was also brought up in Stakes & Flute Spell and the grass arm came back in Crossover. What was different was the actual grass sword's return in I Am a Sword, which was the last time Finn's grass arm got any attention before it disconnected from him and became Fern.

@nightowl84776 жыл бұрын
4:12...But that was the point of Stakes. We were *meant* to come full circle. Marceline has a speech with the Vampire King about how everything has happend before, and we are all going round in circles but no one's lived long enough to see the pattern. Except for Marceline. And she hates that. She hates that she's been stuck as this emotionally fucked up teenager for millennia. So when she briefly becomes mortal, she briefly changes who she is as a person. She matures. She grows. And when she turns back to a vampire and everything reverses, everything is the same. Everyone is the same. Except for Marceline. She grew throughout this arc, whilst everyone else stayed on their mortal coil. I think you missed that point by some degree.

Damn it...now I have to go back and watch the series again. Admittedly speaking, I did see both Preboot and Reboot and they were so shocking and excellently paced, that my faith in the series was almost restored, but I've long since stopped watching Television and it's not easy for me to catch the show anymore. Back when the LemonHope episodes premiered, I downright hated the series; and it expressed that level of "pretension" that you mentioned in the title of this video. But I don't think I ever got angry enough with the show to completely stop watching it, until I saw The Citadel episode...that episode literally was what killed Adventure Time for me. Not only did it establish that Finn's father - who could be the only other human on earth - was a scumbag who wanted nothing to do with him, but it also got rid of the Lych in the most anticlamactic way possible...(and Prismo; he was a good character.) Hell, what irritated me even more, was the fact that I found out that Finn got his arm back just a few episodes later; it's like the show didn't want to have anything matter or have any consequences. But if what you say is true, then I could potentially give the show another chance...especially considering it's supposed to be ending soon.

While I do agree it has gotten consistently better again, I will still say it is still not as funny as it used to be in early seasons. It sitll feels like they are opening way too many plotlines and then either not closing them up well or doing it very sloppy. There are a lot less dungeon crawler or just flat out goofy fun episodes in current seasons too. I still love the show but I feel it would be better off without storylines like gumbald and his army. Hoping the lich comes back for the final episode though. Great video as per usual pie.

why almost every story is made up as they go along basically just because you have a grand plan for your story doesn't mean everything is set in stone characters change,new situations arise unexpected consequences happen and as a writer you half to prepare to adapt to your story not going as you planned in this situation a good writer shapes the story being told a bad writer either has no control of whats going on or forces it into a specific direction and based what I've seen of the show its just being shaped b y the writers there's no grand end game were everything ties together its just the ongoing exploits of finn and jake there not moving to a destination there just moving

My biggest concern with seasons 9 and 10 are that they don't, or very poorly, finish up plotlines opened up in seasons 7 and 8. I personally think that seasons 7 and 8 are very hit or miss (personally more miss). There were interesting concepts opened up in these seasons, but the show seems very reluctant to really "solve" these plots. I liked Islands, but I thought that Stakes was very rushed (and a bit cliche). Most of the other episodes in seasons were more or less unmemorable. Not horrible by any means, but I really can't remember any of the filler episodes that happened during this time.
@samuelhadjaissa52016 жыл бұрын
how a lot of season 7 episodes are great and season 7 doesn't end any story arcs the only arc was finn's grass arm and thats about it besides there were a lot of great episodes such as hall of egress, don't look and music hole have been some of adventure time's best episodes even the more simple episodes were great what was so miss about it ? we had some call backs we got some development we saw some great ideas so overall one of adventure time's best seasons also if your talking about the ending of stakes having marcy getting her powers back that was the whole point marcy learned to except that sure thing stay the same however they still change in little ways

Part of me wants to say that I don't understand the hate for Season 5B and Six, since they contain a bunch of episodes I love like 'Be More' and 'The Prince Who Wanted Everything', and focused more on side characters which was something I appreciated, but in reality I get it. I thought the ending to Breezy was one Nightosphere of a cop out even if it did amount to something, and the Orgalord arc... needed work. While the newer episodes seem to be aiming for less comedy, I like the more story-driven show it's become. The only worry I have is that with all the amazing arcs they have (Betty and Simon, Normal Man, Fern, Gumbald and the war...), we might not get satisfying closures. Also, you don't like Bad Jubies? I thought that episode was great. Then again, it has both BMO and LSP, so I might be incredibly biased.

I did not get why they just decided to kill Rattleball like that, they seem to have represented him as a very powerful swordsman but boob he's dead

I'll be honest, I really haven't seen anything Adventure Time related since Stakes. And before that, there was a huge jump in me viewing it beforehand. I just felt like the show wasn't entertaining anymore, but that Stakes was a good enough place to end it for me.

You should do every episode of adventure time reviewed.

For me the seasons of Adventure Time: Seasons 1-4: Ice King, Lich, LemonGrab, good supporting characters, and my childhood. Season 5 - Wait, something is happening... Season 6 - *OH GOD*, *NO*, *NO*, *NOOOOO* (insert office meme) How da bananas did they ruined the show's essence on this one Season 7 - Well these are good arcs (I love Stakes), too bad I can't do a marathon Beyond that, I just didn't watch Adventure Time. (SU and SVTFOE) But I did really just shaped my recently died-off childhood...

Adventure time is a tabletop rpg like dungeons and dragons. Let that sink in.

I thought only the last two seasons were good, although I did enjoy stakes, but I respect it more than season 5-7.

The episode that finally made me jump ship from Adventure Time was the episode Chips and Ice cream. It was unfunny, uninteresting, and just bad. It was when I realized definitively that there was nothing left for me in watching Adventure Time. The storylines went nowhere, and even when they decided to take a break from the storylines, they had nothing interesting to show anyways. Honestly it's hard for me to imagine the show recovering from such a low, but I guess I'll give it a shot again if it really is getting entertaining again. But I feel kind of lost as to whether I should start back from where I left off and move on to the next episode after Chips and Ice cream, or if I should just skip all of the garbage and go straight to Broke His Crown since that's where you said it started getting good again.

The Blue Wizzrobe But then u will miss some rly strong stuff at the end of season 6 and at the start of season 7. I suggest you watch the final 5-6 episodes of S6 and the Stakes miniseries from S7. There are other great episodes along the way but I think those few are really fantastic. Keep in mind to keep your expectations low when going into them because they both sorta have questionable endings but still great nontheless

Aft u watch those couple of episodes u can decide on whether u want to continue the series or drop iy entirely. If u don't like it its okay maybe the shows not for u. The show is often best when focusing on episodic one-shots rather than long continuous storylines.

adventure time is an episodic sure there may be ongoing stories however there all self contained and episodic meaning that sure there is a bigger story however that's not the focus the focus is there world there characters and the fact that anything can happen this gives the series all the benefits of an ongoing plot however never suffer any of the pitfalls that come from it that being the lack of a satisfying conclusion a good story is only ever stratifying when its over and in and going story you don't get that until the series finale so your just dragged on and on with onset promise that maybe someday something interesting will happen and not be bait for future episodes so in adventure time there is more focus on more interesting things such as themes, character development etc. also I recommend catching up because a lot of episodes in season 7 are great from start to finish so you don't need to start anywhere

Shadowmonger Empire Alright, in that case I think I’ll try to watch as much as possible, but if I get too bored then I’ll just skip to the end of season 6 and then to Stakes in season 7. Thanks for the suggestion!

He did got his arm back in season 6 but lost it again (perminately) in the season 7 finale and got a robot arm in season 8 premiere

I prefer season 1. I just watch a lot of long story arced, philosophical TV shows (like WestWorld, which you should watch). I've actually learnt to appreciate low-effort, one off goofs. Much more rewarding.

Is everyone so upset that Finn's arm looked like his regular arm instead of a green one? If PB gave him an identical arm would you guys complain about that too?
@osmosisjones49126 жыл бұрын
his dad lost took damage maybe brain damage trying to save him I wonder how he ended up in the citadel did he commit a cosmic crime trying to find him. and Fern had a lot to be proud of the Old fin would have loved to catch a fish monster instead a normal fish only reason he didn`t to ocean to fight sea monster because his fear of the ocean and no mortal sword could defeat it but Fern was no mortal sword it was fern who defeated Fins fear of the ocean
