I appreciate the fact you recorded most of the video on the roof! That's a great shot, in every direction... Awesome!

Our Motorhome has suffered years of leaks and now the rot took over. We’re doing a full reno as we speak. 86 Toyota odyssey. Thanks for info Cheers!

Thanks! Looking back at the Vintage, I started to realize that most of the issues were RV parts related.

Totally agree with you on making changes to fit your lifestyle and desires. We have a brand new Grand Design that we are making a ton of changes to because we will be living in it next year and we want it to be a home not just a box with brown everything. And thank you for the MaxxAir fan info. We have one like your bathroom fan in the kitchen and some other junk one for the bathroom. I was about to order that cover for the kitchen fan and never thought about the height. I would be over height too…so thank you so much for saving me from that mistake. 👍🏼
@HomeMeetsRoad2 жыл бұрын
You are welcome! Height on the vintage was never an issue, but now I have to consider it with every suspension adjustment or roof modification. One of the reasons the solar is on hold for some time. If I can make any recommendation, it would be to take your rig out to some campsites nearby. You’d be surprised at how much you learn about your rig, and you may change your design ideas. The five-day drive from TX to AZ was eye-opening for us, and a lot of the modifications/changes resulted from that.

Even doing a ‘test run’ in your driveway will give you good insight.

@@HomeMeetsRoad You have some great recommendations. We picked ours up from a dealer that was 6 hours away so we do have some good drive time with it. We are doing modifications in between camping sessions so we are doing a local campground this month then mods then camping a couple hours away. We then are having 2480w of solar being installed on the roof, following that we will be doing a longer trip further away. I laughed when you said you were talking about being on the roof of your new camper. I felt the same way when I got on our new one. We just came from a mid profile 5th wheel that i had just got somewhat use to being on the roof, but the new one is full profile…pretty intimidating.

@@vtmkb Nice! Sounds like you got a good plan. Setup and breakdown are one of the biggest learning curves with a new rig and that five-day trip helped a ton for us. That's a lot of solar! If you can have them on T-Slot Rails, do so. The biggest suggestion on that is a combiner box on the roof. Makes life so much easier!

Welcome to my wonderful state!! the minute I saw those trees I was like yup I know where they are...I like your gripe videos I come here for information! When I went RV shopping it was exactly how you mentioned it the 20K Rvs had the same stuff as the 60K RVs I understand they source from the same places but at the same time everything felt cheap... I ended up building my own and couldnt be happier...it does what I need it to do! Just paid it off too and I would still have years of payments on a factory one... Ive never seen 120 month payments until i started shopping for RVs haha Keep up the great content!!

also side note...I didnt want to cut into my once piece roof so I used a combination of PC fans and Marine fans...while the RV industry has OK parts the Marine industry has some higher end products that feel more robust
@HomeMeetsRoad2 жыл бұрын
Love Oregon. Will be spending some time here this summer. Yea, Marine does have better parts and I do try and see what’s available and what could be used on an RV. Love to hear when people built their own and are happy with it! That’s awesome! We will get this thing fixed up right! 😂

The RV industry is interested in maximizing profits, they are not RVer's in general, a few companies were owned by RVer's but they soon have sold out to the big RV companies. As far as ball bearing motors for those fans, that is a tall order, most small motors are sleeve bearings they are just more cost effective and there are few applications where they will actually produce ball bearing motors for something like a fan, especially when they are again trying to maximize the profit. The nicer sleeve bearing motors have impregnated sleeve bearings that have a graphite or lube impregnated into the bearing material, so they are always keeping themselves lubricated. If cost was no object I would go for an air bearing, hardly any friction at all, but the tolerances are so tight it would take an expensive machining set up to produce them.

Thanks for the info! If you know of a company that makes any decent motors for 12V fans, please let me know! Would love to explore this further. Heck, if I can find a spindle with high enough RPM, I’d go with that!
@GinosGarageUSA2 жыл бұрын
@@HomeMeetsRoad No problem, I am not familiar with the motor specs for those fans as to what you would need to replace the fan, but they are probably purpose built and finding a suitable replacement on the open market that is better than what you have will probably be difficult. By the way if you would like to geek out on air bearings, here is an interesting fellow that specializes in the sort of thing: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qXfVh5elhM2oZ7M

Haha! Thanks. It’s sad. A lot of these issues are simple fixes. All I can do is turn this RV into the home we want. The storage and the floor plan are what sold us. We love it; we need to make some (more like a lot) of changes 😂
