The Problem with College Admissions

I hope everyone who watches this video understands that college admissions is a game of advertising. You are not worthless because you were rejected from your dream school. Your worth isn't something to be determined by the admissions offices of Harvard, Yale, Princeton, or any other Ivy League school. Your worth isn't something to be determined by state schools either.
Getting rejected doesn't make you inferior. Getting accepted doesn't make you superior. Your life is worth more than wasting away.

Sophomore at Yale, this video definitely rings true. There’s a path at these schools where they try to push you to investment banking/consulting. Big income, sell your soul type of work. I thought to go down this path at the beginning in order to become wealthy, but I don’t see anyone in this path who is happy with their life. Now I am choosing mathematics research and writing, but even still, one sees that there is a lot of wayward paths in these industries. I have found a Christian faith community which has been a big blessing on my path to grow as a person, but god I shiver to think how other people would be able to function in these environments without serious mental damage. I have to watch myself and stay true to my friendships and god, it is bad if I start to slip: anxiety, low self esteem, etc. I agree with you saying it is easy to sell your soul at these institutions! Luckily I have financial aid though!

The debt to salary ratio is the worst part of it. You need a college degree to become a teacher. You take on debt to afford tuition at a state university and work yourself dry to pay for food and medicine. Teaching isn't a living wage. You'll only be saddled with debt and despair. No wonder our birthrates suck. Nobody wants to have kids when they can't afford to feed themselves.

Random question? Did you go UMass for chemical engineering? When I was there, there was a big faculty feud in the department. It was so bad it made it to the Boston globe I think in 2015. Several faculty left. They struggled to have comptent professors. The ones who were there cared more about the research than students. Bad all around. Fits into a lot of what you were saying. I was very bitter and frustrated by the time I left.

I didn't go to UMass. I vaguely remember the feud. I'm not surprised at the sheer pettiness of it all. I'm more surprised at how blatant the pettiness is. Abusive professors with big egos tend to try to be subtle with their power harassment.

It’s an insanely broken system
