The Problem with GI Joe's 2024 Beat em Up

We reacted to the new trailer for GI Joe Wrath of Cobra. I loved this cartoon as a kid growing up in the 80s. I'm a little worried this game might just be too easy or they toned it way down for the trailer. Let me know if you think this looks like a cake walk so far. I hope I'm wrong and this turns out to be a brutal beat em up worthy of an 80s title. They called it NES hard for a reason!

Can't imagine Shipwreck not being in the game somehow. He isn't called out as a playable character yet but they allude to more. I'll probably start out with SnakeEyes if I can too.

If cheap, I'll probably buy this even if it's crap, but I'd love for this to be as solid as Streets of Rage 4. The graphics clearly aren't. The gameplay doesn't appear to be either. I expect the music to be cartoon theme nostalgia, and that's fine. Like you mentioned, there should be vehicle stages. Looks better than any Masters of the Universe game I've seen.

I think I might be in the same boat. If this is expensive I might wait till there is a steam sale. They may also change my opinion if new trailers come out. Right now I want this to succeed but I'm being cautious.

Timber! Thank you! Its been a while since I read my old IDW GI Joe comics. This video has got me watching the OG show on Hasbro's channel now while I work. Really hoping this game ups the difficulty and we're just seeing it on super easy mode for the trailer.

I really want this to be good. I'm hoping it's just a case of them wanting to show off the playable characters and those enemies will be more than punching bags. The TMNT beat em up was great!

Also, last night in Double Dragon Gaiden I got the farthest in a regular gameplay as Billy and Jimmy than I ever have before. I defeated Anubis and his henchmen, just barely, in the mode where his mission has three parts. I’d never seen that part of the game before! Now I have Machine Gun Willy’s skyscraper mission to conquer, and then the final boss, “The Mayor”. Wish me luck, I’ll need it!

@@CDiArcade oh man, sorry to hear that. Also, I found and bought DD Advance from PSN as well, it was ported to modern consoles and I never thought it would be. I had the original cartridge back in the day and played it til I finally beat it. This new one has save states and that’s awesome!

I wasn’t big on GI Joe growing up, I never had any of the figures or vehicles but I did sometimes watch the show. I’ve never seen the original movie but I should. I have no interest in the first two live action movies, but the end of Transformers Rise Of The Beasts implied that there will be a shared universe between TF and Joe somehow. It remains to be seen how they’ll do it. As for this game, I think I’ll watch you play it first before I play it myself. It does look pretty good at least!

They've done a lot of GI Joe - Transformers crossovers. I think the ones by Devils Due Publishing were my favorites so far. They had some cool designs but this was like 20 years back.

Almost thought you were going for the 80s cartoon deep cut. Springfield was the name of a fake Cobra town. Hasbro has it up on YT. Search GI Joe There No Place Like Springfield.

@@CDiArcade I remember it was on TV over here, but I was too young to follow the English. It wasn't translated and I can't read subtitles. So it was around, don't think it ever got huge here, but I missed it completely, much like Transformers for the same reasons.

Well, i dont see this turning good at all. The graphics are so bad and cheap, it remembers me the game boy ports of bad console games. Even the logo is terrible. Just look at it, this can be only be the first game of some company. I am so pissed about this game.

@@CDiArcade A lot of people thinks the same. It's not a personal taste or baseless criticism, the game looks terrible and i dont mean just the graphics. Even for mobile standards it's poor. And they want to charge money for this?

I want to see them do a demo so we can all try it. It may end up being just a bad trailer but some of it like the background just feel uninspired.
