Not just in a sense of "Giorno has blue hair now" but rather "Joseph Joestar is a pulsing rainbow gradient covered in halftone". Absolutely fabulous. The manga should be read in b&w but I find it easier in some action scenes to see what's going on in color. All the black ink just blends together for me in the fuller pages.
@PunkZombie13003 жыл бұрын
I agree. I think a good part of that is in part due to the the quality if the scans, if I were reading the actual manga then I'm sure the details would be a lot clearer, but with the scans I was checking out a lot of the action scenes seemed really busy and it was hard to make out exactly what was going on. Another thing is that I'd switch between my phone and my laptop, and reading the black and white on a phone just makes the issue worse (which Hamon Beat mentioned in the video). In any case I always took the colored versions to be non-canon since most JoJo characters don't have things like canon outfit/hair colors, so it's never been an issue for me to see the anime portray characters one way while the manga portrays them another, and the random flaws in the coloring don't really bother me when I'm reading.

You're not quite the only one. When it comes to getting into manga, especially if you're used to anime or even stuff like your average American comic books, the black and white is a bit of a pill to swallow whether it's you basically going against how in most instances we're trained to view black and white as either a sign of ye olden times or as a sign of a lack of budget and sometimes... the art can be a struggle whether you have actual diagnosed problems that impede on this or it could just be a matter of experiences varying from person-to-person. Much like how one person can view a piece of art as great and another as a piece of garbage, some people can adapt quickly to the detail and know what's going on from the get-go and others may struggle and on devices that can be tricky. I mean it's why the Jump Digital Color stuff exists because indeed when trying to read on certain devices, let me tell you, it can be HELL on the eyes trying to figure out what's going on. So really, don't feel bad for your choice, especially since the video is not about putting down those who happen to have that preference. It's just about explaining the source of the scans, the purpose they serve and the issues they have to counter the misconceptions that surround them. If you prefer it a certain way though then by all means, continue enjoying it in that manner since what matters is that you're still getting into the story and hopefully enjoying it all the same.

The manga is kinda expensive for me- I would like to collect it in English. Recently JJBA has been started to be published in my first language, but still I would rather have it in English. Also it's funny how fans were accusing Araki of even more 'forget moments', but he had really nothing to do with this. I love color schemes in his artworks- they change and surprise me. Like for example redhead Dio- pls he looks so good.

I understand the whole problem of coloring mistakes, of course clothes shouldn't be skin colored or vice versa. However, the point about it being blurry is a misunderstanding. It appears to be more blurry because of contrast, not because of bad lines or less lines. Black and white will always look clearer than colored images, since the contrast is lower in the colored ones.
@leaffinite20012 жыл бұрын
He didnt say it was blurry, he says it looks blurry. This is not a mistake. Edit: i believe his wording was "an almost blurry effect"
@tomdekler92802 жыл бұрын
Not entirely. The anime doesn't look blurry (albeit definitely less detailed), because they use flats for coloring instead of color gradients. Color gradients may be more realistic, but often make surfaces look softer than the linework may suggest. The color scans definitely look airbushed.

I remember when I first started reading I started with colored adventure purely because I wasn't used to B&W manga, plus Araki's detailed pieces just made things even harder to understand. In hindsight, I realize it was just because I was reading it on a phone, and like you pointed out, the colored pages look better on a phone. Looking at the same B&W pages either on a bigger screen or physically in your hands make it so much clearer and a genuinely better experience than the colored pages on a phone, and *infinitely* better than colored pages on anything other than a phone.

I’d like to add while sometimes it can be ‘difficult’ to follow along in B&W, trust me when I say 90% of the time, it’s simply a bad scan. Take a look at any of physical copies for the the volumes. It’s extremely clear and don’t have to worry about stuff like saturation and brightness on your phone. Plus, if you go to Barnes & Noble, you get a really cool looking book.
@Goose_BooseYT Жыл бұрын
Yeah I've never been a fan of the color version of Jojo, which has sadden me for some time because I always thought that they were made by Araki, but only just found out around the start of Part 8 that they're not by him at all. Now it just frustrates me, because it's very clear Araki is a master of color and design, but what's portrayed in the colored manga is nowhere near his mastery for colors. If anything, I think people should realize that Araki experiments with color schemes ALL of the time, and anyone who's a fan of his should too experiment with their palettes and be loose when making fanart. And if you don't know how too or are too timid to experiment, I recommend the book "A Dictionary of Color Combinations" by Sanzo Wada.

My biggest gripe with the coloured scans are the ugly glow effects they put on Stands. It makes them look phoney and not part of the world. I love how in Araki’s own illustrations Stands are drawn just as realistic and detailed as the real humans, showing that in the JoJo’s universe they do look “real” to Stand Users and not cheesy ghosts. The fact that the later parts get such monotonous colour schemes for them also bugs me.

Good video man. It's good to point out the many errors of the official scans, and it's important to emphasize that Jojo has no canon colors (mostly). To be honest, it was annoying to see people complaining about Giorno's clothes when GW was being aired. And I can agree with you that Araki's work looks better in paper. On the other hand, sometimes Jojo can be hard to understand when you read it in black and white. Maybe it's just me, that I'm not used to read manga, but a lot of time I found myself completely clueless about what I've read in Jojolion. That didn't happened to me in Steel Ball Run. What I'm saying is that the colors scans make the visuals less ambiguous for new readers like myself.
