Usually it goes: 1. Purchase LS v8 vehicle. 2. Do incremental upgrades due to budget restraints. 3. Drive constantly at 6800 rpm. 4. Suffer engine failure. 5. Buy junkyard LS for cheap, use "savings" for forced induction. 6. DON'T INSPECT the LS. Treat it as schrodinger's cat. 7. Plan for 6 lbs of boost but apply 15 lbs. 8. Blow engine up because piston ring gap was never adjusted for FI. 9. Blame vehicle. 10. Sell vehicle to junkyard. 11. Repeat process from step 1.
@SalvagetoSavage
@SalvagetoSavage 2 жыл бұрын
Then when you get back to step 5, you accidentally buy the blown LS that you sold to the junkyard with your old vehicle! lol

I've been in a classic car business for so long and I always tell people that not all your average mechanics gonna work on it like these guys do. Swapping an engine from a junkyard is like flipping a coin. You might end up with good engine or you're gonna be spending lots of money fixing it unless you're a mechanic yourself. So keep your original 350 small block until you come up with 8-10k and get yourself a brand new ls3 or 383 stroker, 430hp for 6k. 5 years warranty = peace of mind.
@SalvagetoSavage

I think it hilarious that nowadays, inspections are just "looking" at everything... no leakdown test, no plastigauge, maybe a compression test? Went from installing a junkyard motor to just rebuilding everything...? to each his own....
@SalvagetoSavage
@SalvagetoSavage 2 жыл бұрын
We don't half ass stuff here. Compression/leakdown tests won't tell you half the stuff that pulling the motor apart will. Why would we put the motor back together to do a leak down test when we can already see that parts of the 6.0 had already failed? That doesn't make any sense.

I'm having problems seeing the negative just like it is. I know there's people out there that don't like the bow tie but taste is like common sense not everybody has it LOL sorry I'm an old man and I don't necessarily need all the bells and whistles. Todays pickups are like Lincoln and Cadillacs

There's always cheaper ways to do it, and sometimes you luck out and find a good deal. We just wanted to show that sometimes projects like this can be opening a can of worms! Hope it doesn't discourage you from starting your own build! If you get a good platform that's already running, there's no reason you can't fix it little by little!
