Feels weird why people would support something like a monitor on kickstarter (apart from hype I guess). It's not like without an upfront investment/show of demand the monitor manufacturers wouldn't develop betted tech anyways, and when they do you can know before putting your money down how good the product is and that you will actually re eive a product in the first place. Not to harp on anyone who got burnt paying for this product only to receive nothing at all, this clearly is more obvious wifh hindsight

Classic crowdfunding scam. Have insiders in Chinese factories. Discover new products. Try to replicate and beat them to market. Super well produced marketing. Get review sites and news to hype up the product. Utterly fail at manufacturing and logistic of cheap knockoff. Broken English statements about difficulties with suppliers or have to change design slightly so kickstarter or indiengogo doesn't refund money. Money is released. Close up fake businesses. Real brand name product gets released 6 months later further cementing there never had a production ready counterfeit.

The GPU at min is probably a RTX 2060 so 1000ish USD and the headset depends on which one you go with so between 600USD and 2000 USD. For the monitors for 1 it is around 2000USD due to how big it would have to be then you will have to get multiple ones of them to make the circle. did Linus just described how Eve is essentially scamming its customers with the help of Kickstarter ?!
@phuzz003 жыл бұрын
They're probably not deliberately scamming people. They'd almost certainly *love* to be able to sell a really amazing monitor to everyone that wants one. I think the actual problem is...they're just not very good at this whole 'running a business' thing. Or more charitably, they're not very good at setting expectations. A small company like Eve is never going to be able to put out a better monitor than the big companies, whilst also being cheaper, and getting it onto the market first. They can only manage one of those things, or maybe two. The trouble is that they promised all three, and people believed them.

Oh God I backed this thing, haha I didn't think the G7 would go on sale as quickly as it did, but those were pretty hard to get at that price anyways. I don't care that much for color accuracy. As long as it's bright and performs well as far as motion blur is concerned, I'll be happy. I have no idea when I'll be able to snag a 3080 anyways (R9 Fury still hanging in there), so time isn't that much of an issue atm.

Linus says it at around 9:20 - "The issue with backing tech products on Kickstarter" My dad uses Kickstarter successfully, but in the art community, the success rate is much higher. I have worked (as an illustrator, graphic designer, and comic artist) at 4 Kickstarter projects. The 4 successful, quite loved, and the 4 even over delivered, and let me tell you, it was a ton of work for all involved, in every single instance. Indeed, I don't envy a bit the project owners (I always was actually contracted for gigs (fixed rate out of the personal pocket of the project owner, way before starting the campaign, as for those, u need sth actually finished before the campaign, if u expect to succeed), making graphics, illustration, design, 3D miniatures, etc). I worked my ass off there, yet the one non-stop, often losing money in the process and not seeing personal benefits, just reverting on the company/group to grow (they suffer while they create a business, this way. No real earnings, but at least so they can build it), was the person with the idea, the project. We all wouldn't have been able to dedicate those hours to make something personal and solid without crowd funding. This tech "groups", companies or whatever, do ruin the hard work (the name) that others do through Kickstarter (and indiegogo... But I'm more fond of kickstarter).

Got my spectrum 4k, had it for a few weeks, and, well, aside from one minor firmware bug where the monitor can lockup if you rapid fire DDC/DI brightness control commands at it while it's asleep, it works really really well.
