@guardiantree8879 no touching effect has nothing to do with acoc, wtf, it's an acoa thing, there are straight up no identifications as to when acoc is being used, unless confirmed, same goes with future sight, you can never tell unless the characters state it, lightning was never an acoc specific thing, bzzt sound was never an acoc specific thing, neither was a no-touch, pre-1010chapter Luffy has had a no-touch effect due to acoa, not because of acoc, which he hasn't unlocked at the time. Oda just doesn't bother to draw acoc in every panel because it would be ugly, same with future sight, you just assume that he always uses it. And against Kizaru there's a good case for it being ineffective, as Kizaru was blocking all of his hits, and he has allegedly the best acoa among admirals, perfect for defense

Horrible logic, guy beats strong guys = he will do it always? When luffy fought katakuri, he had multiple win conditions like unlocking advanced forms of haki or awakening his devil fruit. Against kizaru THERE ARE NO SUCH WIN CONDITIONS. He always gets over the time limit tho gear 2 and 3 used to have severe time limits and limitations and now after the time skip he can go into them instantly and stay in them much longer and bypass the negative effects of using them same with gear 4th in elbaf luffy can use gear 4 without transforming so the time limit is much less restrictive I think the same thing will happen with gear 5 eventually too

I do believe the drawbacks of G4 and G5 will go away. G4 alr had its drawbacks likely gone during Egghead, and the same can be said for G5 in a future arc. Just remember when we were in Enies Lobby, we'd never have thought that G2 and G3's drawbacks would be gone, but look where we are now. All this is shaping up for Luffy to be able to utilise all his different advanced forms of Haki, including his unrestricted use of all his Gears, to become the one worthy of Pirate King

Why do we have to complain for a plot device existing in shonens since dragon ball? Putting a fighter out of commission for a few chapters is common, arguably managed in a way that might be worse than what dragon ball did but it's still the same. In naruto the timer of the sage mode was the same, the convenience of the fox chakra was the same. In demon slayer Tanjiro can't fight anymore a dozen times per fight and then always gets up at the most dire moment. Arguing that the most common plot device to give space to minor characters during fight is a bad plot device is controversial to say the least, Kaioken running on a timer was necessary against vegeta to make the fight exciting. Same for super sayan 3 in the buu saga and the ultra instinct in the TOP. There is a million examples of this in shonen and considering how the sharingan was handled in Naruto I am not gonna complain about something for being too simple. It's a 30 years old concept (at the very least) that always worked in shonen, the management of time limited resources in the war arc from naruto is enough to prove to us that it's NECESSARY to keep some powers on a timer as a plot device. Kakashi being able to spam Kamui was waaaaaay too convenient for example. To put it simply, controversial take the way it was expressed, might have better points but the video brought it too far

In terms of story telling, it seems impossible for every single awful horrible, worst person in the world to not kill Luffy every single time he falls down. Why would any smart villain not kill him (oda writes almost all his villains as intelligent) I think oda just loves writing it but it is very overused and does not make sense for top dogs in the world to not finish the job. At least take an arm or leg like shanks did. Plot armor.

What?.. The only times that happened was with Kaido who says he should have taken his head back to show his allies and Saturn who basically had luffy and company captured. Also when Kaido beat luffy the first time he was sent to Udon to be broken down into a subordinate. I don't think you understand the stakes of the story. In Wano, Luffy had to (remember this word) wake up. Law and Kid couldn't fight Kaido. Other Straw Hats couldn't fight him either. After fighting Kaido for so long, Luffy might be the only person who knows just how strong Kaido is. That's why he couldn't bring himself to fall down. If he failed at that moment, that's the end. There is no One Piece after that (Without powerful plot armor). From early One Piece, we know Luffy can overuse his lifespan to boost his strength. Even Kaido admitted that. But when he fought against Kizaru, he just became weak. He didn't overuse his lifespan because his partners were at their peak. Just Zoro, Sanji, and Jinbei should be capable of fighting Saturn. Would other straw hats be in danger when he was knocked out? Absolutely! But Sanji is a speed demon. If any of them, especially ladies, are in danger, he can reach them in an instant. Zoro has power comparable to Luffy using Gear Four with all advanced Haki, which means he could fight any of the Five Elders for quite some time. And, knowing Luffy, his crew would definitely find food for him. So, there is no need to overexert himself in this battle. That's why Luffy passed out for seven days after his battle with Kaido, while most of the time, he only got knocked out for a few days, even in the hardest of his battles, including Alabasta, Enies Lobby, and Whole Cake. So, you might think these transformations are being used for plot convenience, but the truth is exactly the opposite. As for other things, I believe you said it correctly. People try to power-scale characters without understanding their powers properly. Luffy was Yonko Commander level during his fight with Katakuri. But every second-in-command of the Emperor has a certain unique ability that puts them above the rest. Luffy had Gear Fourth. Katakuri had Future Sight. King had a Lunarian bloodline. Marco had the strongest healing factor. But Luffy had only been in the sea for less than three years, while these guys had been in the sea for decades. Despite that, Luffy had caught up with them in terms of strength, stamina, and even Haki. It's just that his skill set was easily countered by Katakuri. So, Luffy had to find a way to be at the Katakuri level without using Gear Fourth, and for that, he mastered Advance Observation Haki. Remember, during the fight, Luffy was punched, kicked, and stabbed dozens of times, while Katakuri was only hit less than ten times. Despite that, one powerful attack from Luffy was able to take him down. This shows just how weak his endurance was. King Vs Luffy or Marco Vs Luffy would have been amazing because it would be a battle of attrition, and Luffy is the King of Stamina. In these fights, he would look equal to the vice-captain of the Emperor's crew. So, even before the battle with Katakuri, Luffy was equal in terms of strength. It's just that Katakuri had a hard counter to every single one of his skills, so the battle looked very one-sided at the beginning.

1:18 I think Luffy has a better understanding of his devil fruit to where he can use Fourth Gear in short bursts rather than a full change now, so he no longer burns through his haki from a complete transformation. Fifth Gear completely draining his stamina to the point extremely rapid aging is a funny and crazy drawback. I think Oda might keep it.

I feel like Oda really shot himself in the foot when he made the decision of Luffy getting back into Gear 5th via goofy shenanigans in his fight with Kaido. Prior to that, every time Luffy unveiled a new Gear, there was always a drawback, barring Blueno, but the gap between Gear 2 and the fight with Lucci was decently long. This asspull became more annoying in Egghead where he became immobilized after WSG and needed Kizaru's help. I guess while I do like Gear 5, I'd wish for it to actually be the last resort for Luffy in fights. Have him utulize the gears while in base, like when he attacked Loki. Instead of spamming it like in Egghead against Lucci, Kizaru, and the Gorosei.

Wano gear 5 stamina was even worse than egghead, you’ve got it confused. He didn’t run out of stamina and then power back up into gear 5. He was just weakened from dying just earlier, that’s what he says when he momentarily gassed out of g5 in wano. His stamina was also worse, so he fell outa g5 momentarily before he fully used up all his stamina. In egghead island, he’s gotten better since with g5 which is why ‘s totally out of g5 if not passed out everytime he falls outa g5 in egghead. He constantly needed some sort of food in order to go back into g5, so what happened in wano really was luffy just willing him back into g5, he could’ve just had luffy do that instead of luffy randomly getting giant food that sorry and broggy coincidentally happened to have. Or he could’ve just once against done this later when he reaches the giant ship and plows through their food to get his stamina back. This served literally no greater purpose, so if the g5 wano powering back up scene is what you think it is, Oda could’ve just done that in either of those egghead scenes I mentioned. “Round one” of luffy vs kizaru fight definitely seemed more like a draw since both kizaru and luffy were out cold, but now that we know kizaru was up, it definitely seems like kizaru > luffy during egghead, be fr.
