In my opinion it seems they took most of the time doing the textures of each pokemon, making them realistic, instead of making the world visually appealing, grass texture and buildings to explore in each town.

Yet they're awful, a massive downgrade from SwSh imo. The fur and metal textures just look bad on creatures supposed to be cartoonish given their exaggerated concepts and designs. Just an example, when i saw how they remade Dragapult, one of my fave pokémons, with a tail with a bunch of plastic-looking ANGLES even if it's supposed to be swift, almost disappearing and untangible, i lost it. And it's just an example of something that applies to a shit ton of 'mons. The graphics, artstyle and design of SV, as a whole, look like a fever nightmare. It's ten steps backwards compared to SwSh which had an appealing artstyle and also design when it comes to monsters, characters and towns.

People seemed to have realised how unimpressive the newer games looked compared to other RPGs on the system like Xenoblade Chronicles or Dragon Quest. Gen 8 games played identically to the previous titles even though the Switch was a massive leap in hardware compared to the DS and 3DS. Scarlet and Violet had interesting ideas but was released in a completely unfinished state. Not just the bugs and glitches but cutting even basic features like going inside shops and other various buildings.

Don't forget they got rid of the birthday gifts you'd get whenever you'd log on on your birthday and replaced it with a banner over the pokemon center... it felt like the hugest slap in the face as the gifts felt like a nice personal touch that made you feel appreciated and loved

The feature I’m most sad is missing is that you can’t go into houses. It’s pet of what makes XY some of my favorite games. Every person has interesting dialogue, some are funny, and some give you items like tms or held items. It may seem small at first, but makes the game feel so much more open and polished. SV seems like it has less content just because you can’t talk to people, and I don’t like that.

it's sad to think about the fact that we can never change or boycott gamefreak as they sell so much easily. my main issue about the game is the fact that you can randomly get stuck with koraidon/miraidon and after some time it teleports you somewhere else... and that means they KNEW we could get stuck and instead of fixing it they just teleport us after a few secs of being stuck :(

Pokémon should never get into full blown 3D; simplicity was better back then. Game Freak should have hired more game developers for quality control. You got to catch them all? Imagine spending hours breeding the perfect Pokémon but soon realize you can't transfer it over to newer generations. Wasted time and effort leaving a void in your heart. Don't forget that online play for 3ds Pokemon games will come to an end soon.

I missed severall pokemon from preveous games at the start of sv. With the dlc manny favorites returnex and I'm happy even if I still miss afew. Actually I feel the demand that each new generation game has more pokemon and all old pokemon returned was a bit a bit of abit impossible and the cut was bound to happen at some point. The fact teel mask and indigo disc added two new areas or semi regeons to explore was a great addition for me. Hav't had that sence generation 2 or fire red orange islands and the fact pokemon are in the wilde like legends instead of random encounters is good.

Pokemon definitely peaked on the ds in main games and side games in quality and quantity. Each gen seems to have less content the last when they moved to 3d. I enjoyed gen 6 and PLA was the closest experience I had when I imagined how pokemon was going to be on the console

Gen 6 just felt incomplete, not having a 3rd game and extra content pushed to SM, and ORAS was just missing the BF to be perfect. I forgot all of gen 7s problems I just wasn't into it and was tropical region out with ORAS. Swsh region was just so linear more than gen 1, and the adventure really started to feel gone. LGPE got boring fast they did good with Pikachu/Eevee but I never felt so detached from my team of pokemon. bdsp was just a pair cash grab SV outside of the story was just so empty. The game might add something new but something always gets taken away.

Story was good and innovative? The story was some of the most barebone things. They tried to do a time story, when they had Explorer’s of Sky. Which is considered to be pretty much the best pokemon story. Innovative now? What innovation? You can’t really go in any direction due to blockades, and level barriers. So, it is not innovative on the open world concept as well. And it lacked so much content for the base game. Actual secrets, such as the dungeons you used to get. Remember the dark place where you got Giratina? Pretty cool. Or the underwater temple in ORAS? Pretty nice. The point is you got actual discoveries. The most you get in this one are a scavenger hunt to unlock some legendaries, wasn’t anything really a secret. The performance was pretty bad as well. And to give some examples on games that did pretty good with its animations and performance? 1. Marchen Forest. 2. Little Witch Nobeta. 3. Xenoblade. 4. Bloodstained. Etc. So, there really isn’t any excuse on that part. They even cutback on animations itself. And made some other bad choices such as being unable to disable animations. And still have single text boxes. This game has a mountain load of problems. Even the storyline was pretty bad, and the mini games are just horrendous. They took out more exploration being unable to enter buildings, and broke everything down to sandwiches. I guess the plus is that the mechanics have improved over time, which is nice. But everything else is lacking tremendously.

My opinion is that an open world doesn’t work for Pokémon. A linear quest that allows you to choose what Pokémon to use is the classic formula that has always worked. They literally could’ve had free roaming pokemon in a linear path. Then go completely open world at the very end after you have had to explore the whole region on an actual path.

Not a bad idea personally I’d condense the biomes into zones similar to Sonic Frontiers or Pokémon Legends Arceus instead of trying to load an entire world all at once when it was clear from sword and shield the GF wasn’t ready for open world yet

I personally think the last good pokemon games were ORAS and the best Pokemon games were specifically BW2. Something ive learned to notice is that a lot of how people talk about Pokemon is that they usually only compare it to Pokemon games, which isn't the best way to look at it. I personally believe that BW2 are good games, not just good for Pokemon standards. Im a Yo-Kai Watch fan tho, so ive played other games in the same genre that most people especially in the west haven't played before. Something controversial imo id like to say is that base Scarlet and Violet have less content then Yo-Kai Watch 2 Bony Spirits/Fleshy Souls (and theres an Emerald/Platinum equivalent called Psychic Spectres that not only has more content but actually allows you to transfer your save from a base version of 2 to PS). So basically if you have a 2Ds/3Ds i recommend playing the Yo-Kai Watch franchise, base Yo-Kai Watch 2 BS and FS and Yo-Kai Watch 1 are reasonable price wise so don't worry about that. Just please give it an honest shot. Yo-Kai Watch is not just something that was supposedly gonna be the Pokemon killer, but an actual amazing game series by Level-5, the people behind the Professor Layton series and other stuff. Hopefully Yo-Kai Watch will return to the west someday

Yo-Kai Watch 2 specifically tends to be the favorite one in the franchise in the west from what I've heard, and I personally agree, even if Yo-Kai Watch 3 is somehow able to exist on the 3Ds, man does it have a lot of post game content. Definitely recommend checking them out if you can. I'm only able to play them because I got them before the EShop closed and physical copies of 2:PS, both Blasters versions (which is a fun spin off), and 3 cost an arm and maybe 1 or 2 legs

It’s not only the landscape graphics that are bad, but cutscenes can take half a second to load - there might be a black screen for a transition, and after in the time it takes to blink twice the textures and other assets pop into existence. Haven’t seen something that bad since watching the Game Grumps play Sonic Boom. And another thing is them selling DLCs, over half the original price of the game, so you’re paying 1.5x for what used to be included in the main (complete) games. I’m not against DLC’s, but when the base game is so barren and buggy to begin with and then they charge you another half the game $ without really fixing any of the base issues it really irks me the wrong way.

They dont put in any effort, it wouldnt be that hard to make a banger of a game, they sell copies rn sure, but people beat the campaign and stop playing 1- Scrap the open world and go back to routes. 2- sprites should still be used in boxes and in the party screen. 3- bring back the 8 gym and elite four. 4- gym and online battles should have the same vibe and quality as pokemon battle revolution had , with gorgeous and large arenas, commentators, high quality animations and presentation. 4- bring back the battle frontier and safari zone as endgame content (safari zone could be open world if they really want to keep that aspect). 5- make TMs and battle items hard to get (possibly trough the battle frontier) and NOT consumables. 6- make breeding and training competitive pokemons faster. 7- Nerf Incineroar

Performance aside Gen 9 lack so many key features that almost every past Gen had. Compared to previous games Gen 9 routes/paths are so empty and lifeless it barely feels like anyone lives there just a big school and a few houses sprinkled in just to say some are there. Hardly any buildings to explore, no character customization really, sorry evil team (the worst worst of all gens imo, super repetitive) no victory road, they just give you the legendary, the weirdest npcs to battle of all gens. Absolutely no challenge battle wise (even the champion was super weak). Boring elite 4 environments. The worst starter trio (all 3 were ugly imo). Only thing cool about the professor was the battle at the end. Can’t even go into stores just brings up a menu screen, the new Pokémon models are nice but truthfully I don’t even think Gen 9 looks as good as let’s go Pikachu/Eevee. Not to mention the icing on the cake… performance issues. I wasn’t the biggest fan of SWSH all that much… until I saw SC/VL. 😂🤦‍♂️

Emerald, and Generations 4 and 5 are the best. Anime graphics should have been used in any Japan-based video game for better potential for smooth gameplay, stable physics, and plenty of content. The characters should look appealing, even being sex dimorphic with sex-locked clothes and hair. The arching head and tall eyes design is the best in making characters look cute. The school setting contradicts the open-world setting and theme that the schools work in the old Pokémon games since the schools are just minor places you can visit like they are training modes. All the routes and cities open is how you can make an open-world video game while still having some linear elements like with the gyms you can only get in based on how many badges you have. The Exp. Share should be an option to level up Pokémon evenly, and just over-level the different ID Pokémon. Abilities no longer work in the overworld, which takes away the Pokémon-getting variety. Now we are back to how the Abilities work in RS and FRLG. Despite Game Freak being so lazy in copying the Pokémon models and moves from the 3DS games, they did not try and copy the male and female models to change the hair, eyes, and clothes as a way to create new characters. I heard that making ugly characters is hard to do because they waste memory size. Inti Creates, M2, Arika, and Code Mystics can probably make Pokémon games better-especially with anime graphics that would allow potential for the Regional PokéDex, National PokéDex, Abilities working in and out of battles, sex dimorphic characters, sex-locked clothes and hairstyles, overworld Pokémon, Loto-ID, rematches, Battle Frontier, reusable TMs, TRs, HMs, arcades, farming, and others. Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are the worst in the series for being ugly and broken, as well as being porikore as the Japanese say.

Devs wouldn't need to put in the extra work and the graphics would age better. Also, have more Pokemon in the base game. There should be no reason as to why an open world game like SV should have the same amount of available mons as the more linear SwSh. I don't mind the dlc approach, but at least more than SwSh.

@@TKDPandaa well pokedex aside it was the last gen with a gimmick that was fun. They still had all pokemon even if they werent in a national dex. They added z moves, region variants, and brought back megas. There was alot of variation when it came to teams and it was just alot of fun I started around gen 3 and 4. Oras was probably the peak of my hype in the 3ds era And while sun and moon was no legendary remake, it certianly at least competitively did alot of things right. My only complaint i had with gen 7 was it held your hand too much story wise, but it had memorable characters.

Takes 3 hours just to start playing the game and cant even skip moves so your forced to watch a 25 minute battle every time you battle even the weakest Pokémon or Trainers this is just the worst world, Pokémon and gameplay design I've ever seen in any Nintendo game ever. Horrible Battles every single battle plays out the same last Pokémon turns to a gem now to show that off for 5 minutes just for it to die in 1 hit. Tbh wish they would take the main line and make it more the 3ds version just a little update graphic and sound wise that is all the updates to that side. For the open world they could go with legends for that and have both and put a few years in-between them so those that want the oh experience can have that and those that want the open world can have that. Some don't want the open world and the exp share always being on turns them off and ifbyou make the pokemon modules for one you can use it for another. To me it would be cool if they brought out another pokemon box with the new hardware it would be awesome. The dlc adding more pokemon they said they couldn't put in the main game for more money is unexceptable. In the og if they need an open world put a safari zone in each game that is open just that sone not the whole game. Btw doing the gym badges in any order was for the most part in red and blue.

A lot of valid arguments here, just one issue I've noticed. The scale of the game world does not reflect real-life distance. For example, Lexington is only several miles away from Concord according to Fallout 4, but in reality, it's over double that distance. So, while the player's house in Cabo Poco looks like it's only roughly a mile away from the academy, it's in actuality roughly over five miles away, and you obviously wouldn't be able to walk that far in a reasonable amount of time before class starts.

The difference between previous cycles and now is that BDSP and SV actually do suck. You can see the shortcuts that were taken to get these titles out in a certain release window. You can see why a remake isn't always a good idea. And you can see why having a public mission statement simply to expand your fan base creates a culture of quantity over quality. Hard pass on these terrible games and no more pre-orders without first seeing the product. P.S. - not including the shiny ding was a choice. Great video. These games are sad, disgusting disappointments.

Honestly I don’t really mind having routes and not having open world game for pokemon I actually enjoyed pokemon sw/sh not because of the story but it was visually appealing I liked the more anime style of it like no one asked for textures on pokemon fur or shit like that with these games I felt like they really focused on things we didn’t even ask for besides making the game open world but honestly they should’ve just stuck with the sw/sh style and just have some areas be open world and just make a really way more intriguing story cool pokemon and you know we love our customization so idk why they made it so limited this time around if they were gonna do that they should’ve at least made the main characters look more unique like in previous games but no and with our routes imo it’s very easy to get lost or just roam around endlessly with no goal in mind these games didn’t offer anything imo not even the pokemon were very appealing tbh some very forgettable pokemon this generation it’s kinda sad my hopes rely on pokemon Z-A and megas coming back honestly hopefully they make that game right

There is another and bigger problem and elephant in the room. Pokemon loses money. In 2020, they were worth 105 billion. Now they are worth 88 billion. The game is what pokemon is built on, if it's shit then the whole house of cards comes tumbling down. It is possible that the game itself sells a lot, but people are less inclined to buy accessories such as movies, figures, cards and posters. It's not just the game, but everything around the game that matters. So if the game was crap, then no matter what toxic fans and bots say, it just won't sell. Here's an example, a store used to have a pokemon display at the front of the store. now the exhibition has become smaller and stands at the back. Another one used to have a department for pokemon, now they barely have a whole shelf. Pokemon are suffocating under their own greed, pride and laziness and I honestly think they are too stupid and pride to see where the problem really is.

The render distance is the biggest problem for me. Sometimes when going up hill i can actually see the range of it in like a transparent blue dome and its actually so effing small. I know il miss a shiny due to one spawning at the edge and then poofing out because i moved a foot to the right.

I actually like it except all of the god damn annoying ass bugs. Like try to make a sandwich and my damn table disappears. Restart. Go to a different flat open area. Boom no table. Or the controls randomly being so screwed up or being clipped in a wall and having to reset. Invisible pokemon in the floor or walls that somehow clip into battle with you from way the fuck away lol 😂 the walls of texts for one chat box answer that no matter what you say results in the same ending. Some stuff I do appreciate even if I don't like it. Like trying to find an authentic tea cup checking the bottoms from the stamps in the overworld felt like being an actual pokemon trainer going for completion. I could nitpick about a lot of things but for everything that I don't like about it, there's lots to like.

As someone who’s in his 30s and grew up in that magical 90s era, I honestly rather play Gens 8 and 9 over 1 and 2. Like when they came out on the 3DS Eshop, I just couldn’t play through them(I’ll play Lets Go if I want to vist Kanto again) Proformance issues aside(which is hindered by TPC and keeping up a merchandice schedule) the gameplay is superb to me and competitve is fun to watch… except for stalling, stall teams are cringe

Its a shame the graphics and performance were so bad because the story is so fucking good. Not a single other pokemon story in history had me thinking and theorizing as much as this one. The twist ending, the final battle with the professor was so badass, one of the best fights in pokemon history. Theres just so many genuinely cool moments in this game. If the performance and graphics were up to par the game would easily be a 90% for me. Only gripes id have are that paldean mons are mostly mid and the lack of a level scaling feature for the open world.

Yall are probably the very same people that said "Wow, imagine being able to run around and catch pokemon in a game like (current high-end game)!!!" Frankly, they're not gonna change in the short term because they still got record sales for this half-baked slop, so why would they feel the need to if everyone's already buying anyway? Not to mention, even if the games sales DID take a dramatic hit, they *still* probably wouldn't care too much, because game sales only make a small portion of their profits, the bulk of which coming from *merchandise,* which the die-hard fans will eat up anyway. I say this as someone who's been with Pokémon since generation 3, and has stuck it out until gen 9 before *finally* reaching my breaking point. It's soul crushing to see a franchise I literally grew up with be reduced to a bloated husk of its former self. And for those of you out there that still rabidly defend this stuff, just take a moment to think: Why are you settling for mediocrity? You deserve better. Also on a personal note, is it just me, or is it kinda frustrating that both special groups of Pokémon (Ultra Beats and Paradox mons) are hyped up so much before release, only to have very little presence in the actual games? Seriously, the only Ultra beast to have *any* relevance in S/M's story was Nihilego, with the rest relegated to the postgame mission (And in US/UM, even Nihilego gets demoted to the one battle in Aether Paradise, though at least Poipole gets about three battles in the story through the Ultra recon squad). Meanwhile the Paradox mons are a *little* better due to having the one Titan battle in the story, the whole Area Zero sequence focusing on them at the end, and your Raidon having a constant presence in the game, but even *then* the bulk of their stuff is relegated TO said final story sequence. I would have liked it if say, after a certain milestone like a number of badges earned, a story event would happen where a Paradox Pokémon that managed to escape Area Zero like the Paradox Volcaronas started rampaging in an area, and you had to stop it from causing too much destruction (possibly even getting to catch it, seeing as they DO allow you to go back and catch the titan paradox mons after beating them). Yes, we DO get to see the result of one of them grievously injuring Avern's Mabosstiff (the good boi), but more examples over the course of the story to actually SEE the threat in person would help to reinforce the threat, as opposed to merely being TOLD how dangerous they are and only seeing a couple aftereffects. Yes, there'll probably be more focus on them un the upcoming Indigo Disk DLC, but that's *Paid DLC* you need to get to have a more complete story, as opposed to stuff being in the Base Game. *TL;DR* It'd be great if the special groups of mysterious Pokémon were more thoroughly incorporated throughout the story, instead of just one major battle in the middle, and the occasional smattering of exposition (Show don't tell, people).

7:42 I have such strong doubt that this will happen. Even today, the 3DS games are pretty divisive. You have to remember that Gen 5 started only 3 years before XY. ORAS is also super divisive and that came out only a year after XY. I don't think SV being divisive is from it "being new and different." The older Pokémon games were at least comparable in quality to other Nintendo games on the same hardware.

Only thing I didn’t like in black and white was the designs of gen 5 but I lived the story, difficulty and the player character was older so I felt it represented the older fans. I grew up with the amazing gen 4 up until sun and mood which i didnt like as much. Scarpet and violet have been such a blast for me. I havent had performance issues like everyone keeps complaining about (probably due to having better thermal paste and having my oled overclocked a little) S&V are seriously such amazing games and i'm 1000% sure its just their first step towards even better pokemon games. Scarlet and Violet are the worst. I've been looking to replay the old games and just finished Diamond/Pearl on switch and enjoyed them very much. Even IF these games were polished, they are a mess interface-wise, ugly as hell, and the developers HAVE NO IDEA how to craft an open world (which imo games need much, much less of). A Pokemon MMO makes a lot of sense in some ways but boy have we lost a lot transitioning to the 3D games. I think I prefer the 2D ones more with maybe the exception of X and Y. Refuse to buy any DLC for scarlet and violet.

I recently started playing pokemon ultra moon, (which I’ve never played before) and the first impression I had was holy shit this feels like a real legit professional great game. Which shocked me because XY and Sun and moon are always talked down on for being terrible games. Pokemon scarlet felt more like an indie Pokemon fan game made in Roblox, it didn’t feel professional to me.

The problem i see is that now the modern games that are releasing feel like they are made for a next gen consoles or just a newer console in general. The switch is closing in to it's 7 year release and we've still heard nothing for a new console like the switch 2 that keeps being rumored around. I can understand Nintendo trying to make sure that the next console won't be a slump which is probably "a" reason that it's taking so long for an announcement, but looking at the current games and how high quality they are, i feel like the switch just won't cut it at this point. It could also be a game problem where things weren't fully checked out before release and such which can happen so that could be a reason too.

The only Gen 8 game I liked was Legends Arceus, because catching Pokemon was fresh it feels like your an actual trainer out in the wild, the story was interesting, also the battling was a refresher and you can also move while you battle, which they should kept and the catching mechanic, like they missed out big time. SV was mid and like they did to SWSH keep making the god damn actual post game into DLC, which is just a straight up scam at this point and people keep falling for it.

alright. im from spring and i actualy wana say. that sw and sh and scarlet and violet are 2 games that i kinda enjoy. but for diffrent reasons. i like pokemon scarlet and violet becuse you can trancfer every starter pokemon. and i enjoy sword and sheild becuse of the dynamax raids that i enjoy. even tough yes. i still diddent get past atticus. but thats what a new pokemon player experiences. im kinda starting to know about more about pokemon. like i already know about swords dance. but i dont know about grabbable items. its sort of a strategy game and a thinking game for me. i know about starters, i know about some pokemon, but i dont know much of legendaries. i always said that victini was a legendary, mistaking shaymins name into chansey, mistakenly starters when 2 times when i called popplio "poppilo" and chespin as "chesspin" and olso joked about calling chespin "chespin checkmate".

SV came scarily close of being Sonic 06 of the Pkmn franchise. Fortunately, it isnt nearly as bad, but it'll still be marked as among the black sheep of the series & will be infamously remembered in upcoming years. It's likely that the reviews of future unrelated games will reference its performance in favor or against those games. "Atleast it doesn't lag as much as SV, so a thumbs up from me." No, that's not the standard of quality u should've for a video game.
