Right, hahaha. Keep doing pod casts of how to hunt public lands and keep encouraging people who shouldn't be allowed in the woods, let alone have a gun or bow that can kill an animal or person and watch them walk under you. I see it almost every year, and yes numerous time they walked right under me. It is what it is. Bonus facts, when you teach/preach about the biggest bucks are deep in the thickest, nastiest, farthest from people in the woods, guess what? There are already 5-10 deer stands hanging there, and the way you traveled to that deep spot without deer seeing you, there have been 10 other dudes that walked that same way because it was the best way to get there. Lol people on public land, WTF?

I hear people say that nationwide, according to license sales, the amount of hunters have decreased over the years. What’s interesting to me is that since the social media boom has opened up so much info, I feel the complete opposite. Public land is seeing more pressure. Everyone online is a deer wizard these days and think that if they watch a couple months of KZbin they can go kill giant deer on public land, and of course we all know if you aren’t hunting public land these days, any other type of success is below it. I’d like to believe that skillful hunters who have plenty of time can still kill big public land deer, but it doesn’t change the fact that more and more people are going deeper, doing the same things, hunting the same areas, mostly due to the info these online deer wizards are so openly sharing. Blame social media and the ones who sell their success to earn themselves a name.

Hearing from dads stories in the 90s squirell hunting seeing lots of mature bucks roaming around in public land before he got into deer hunting in 02. Most of these big mature bucks that these so claim called goats killed on public land were taken in the 70s-90s before the foreigner hunting diversity got into big game hunting tagging mature bucks. I've used their tactics, it works but it doesn't work all the time.. the more everyone's using it. You're educating deer faster.. The spot that youre in high hopes of chasing this mature buck. Hardcore public land fanboys are around hunting it... the mature buck goes nocturnal or hangs around elsewhere either on private or somewhere that you won't realize he's not there... Luck plays majority of the role in public land...

Illinois is almost impossible to hunt public land. There is so little public land there to hunt I am almost surprised anyone out of state even tries. There aren’t that many people in state who really try. And all it would take is a small number to join the locals and no one is getting anything. Illinois has great hunting, but without a foot in the door of private land, you are going to pay for it. It's public land. I expect other hunters, a lot of hunters. That's fine, totally understandable. My frustration in my area is on opening day, groups of 10-15 dudes putting on drives. Going from section to section. HEY, YEP YEP, HEY, C'MON DEER, LET'S GO DEER, YEP YEP, HEY, HEY, YEP YEP. Let people sit for the first weekend before you lock the deer down for the rest of the season!

That's the challenge of hunting public. I hunt public in Illinois. You just have to find the right places... *hint* stay away from the two big sites that are in the southern portion where everyone from the south comes up to...

Indiana is the most underrated state for deer, but hunting public land sucks unless you’re hunting a wildlife refuge

Dan Infalt says hunt where you see hunters. Why did public land hunting blow up?
@ricksundberg56598 ай бұрын
I pack in the day before the opener, bring what I need for 4-5 days and I rarely see another person. If I do see someone they are usually pushing towards me so it doesn't affect my hunting.

Deer hunting heck hunting in general is becoming pay to play. And the majority of us can’t afford to buy/lease land and public land is tuff to hunt. But it is rewarding to get it one. By no means do I have it figured out but I have learned to hunt the hunters to shoot deer. I try to find the more secluded areas and get in extra early and stay longer and I like hunting the middle of the week when the pressure is lower due to most people working

It’s kind of sad seeing Hunter’s being sad about seeing other hunters? We need more hunters knotless the number of Hunter’s out there in the world is decreased significantly over the years

Not a whole lot of public ground and the private ground is gettung sucked up by market hunters.

It's government land not public land. They temporarily allow you to hunt there.

Sometime public land hunting you're better off scouting hunters than deer or whatever you're hunting. Then figure out where other hunters are not willing to go. The worst possible places to access. That's where pressure is low and animals feel safe.

I've hunted public in NE Mo for 15 years. Rarely run into anybody hunting. Maybe it's because it's a ton of work to even get to the stands. 200acres basically untouched besides the occasional bowhunter. Can't expect to go to a major conservation area and not see people. Big fan of flagging and writing info on the stand on when we're hunting.

Social media got it crowded sure but also people letting the cat out of the bag as to where they shot it. Happened on the public land near where I grew up in Texas. A fella shoots a 195” deer and causally tells the guys at the processor where he shot it…next thing you know it’s all over major newspapers in the area and the line to get a permit the next year was around the fuggin building twice haha where we used to be able to get a permit 2nd week of the season. Loose lips sink ships is a true statement

So as somebody who's more into the spot and stalk hunting, is there anything I can do to avoid being an annoyance? I personally think it's silly to spend all that money on specialized gear just to hunt where you know damn well there's gonna be others, but hey, I'd like to avoid making that a waste lmao. And not for these kinda guys, they're fuckin annoying, I'm talking about the ones who don't say nothing and just come home disappointed, y'know?

The funny part is that public land is less about finessing the critters it’s more about avoiding the people and finessing the um pressured pockets that hold animals during the season you gotta put smart your fellow hunter not the animals you are chasing

I honestly think people just don't want to actually take the time to walk deep into the woods, most of the time I see stands and stuff 400+ yards in. I prefer spot and stalk hunting because it requires me to go further

You guys that have out of state hunters busting up your public hunting grounds can blame your own state legislators. They could care less about the quality of your hunting. All they are concerned about is selling hunting licenses and out of state licenses bring the most money.
@ryanfalk54026 ай бұрын
Hunting in the West is just as bad on public land. Hunting has really changed. Deer populations are way down in most states. Elk are staying on private lands and being killed on depredation tags. If you want to regularly hunt you need money.

Come hunt NJ public. Every 100 yards there's a corn pile. All the big gun clubs drive deer non stop. All the big bucks are completely nocturnal on public. But, I still have fun.
