technically there are rarer villagers, the game picks a species to spawn when you go to a random island and then it chooses the character from that species, so basically the probability of getting zucker will be much higher than raymond since even though theres the same probability of getting squid or cat, theres a lot more cat villagers for the game to choose from so that makes getting raymond a lot less likely than getting zucker. im not the best at explaining it but i hipe that made sense

@@katssper You could actually say it's the opposite. From what I've heard each mystery island chooses the species of the villager that will show up first and then the villager within that species. So octopuses have the same chance of showing up that every other species has, but since there are only 3 of them it is even more likely that you will then get the one you want. Personally I think Marina and Octavian are some of the villagers I run into the most.

Rare villagers aren’t even rare. Everything is random, they’re just widely liked. They’re only considered “rare” to you because the ratio of the villagers you like to the ones you don’t care about can be anything from 1-10 to 1-50. And if you are super picky about what villagers you have, the chances of meeting a villager that meets your standards are low as hell.

Legitimate answer: I think it 100% comes down to looks. The reason why people love Raymond or Marshall so much is because of their cute and simple designs used on the template animals. Marshall on the other hand and a handful of other villagers that were popular before could be argued they were popular because of their houses, and what furniture they had. For example Marshall in New Leaf had some furniture from the sloppy set, which supposedly was the rarest/ hardest to get furniture set in the game. So they were "popular" because they wanted to get these villagers purely for their furniture (and looks as well can still be a factor). However, since that set is gone and getting furniture, period, in this game can be debatably easier, I believe it's all about appearance. Especially personally wise and whatever Raymond can say literally ANY smug villager can say as well. So that whole thing about "oh I love Raymond because of his personality and because he wrote this specialty letter for me-", yeah no that's bull shit. Whatever Raymond can say and do, ANY smug villager can do it as well. No villager has "special dialogue" or whatever outside of their catchphrase. So because whatever Raymond can do, someone like Tex or Kyle can do as well, it all comes down to how Raymond looks and his vibe that people are CLAMORING for him. I also believe it's because he is a new villager that it's that feeling of scarcity and sense of pride someone can say, "hey look I got one out of those 8 new villagers. That's pretty rare so I feel more lucky or higher up than other players." And because he's so "popular" now, this mentality only grew further as to have him as a status of saying, "hey I got a villager that EVERYONE wants".

EXACTLY! People only ever want them because of looks and how new they are, which SUCKS. I'm getting the game for my birthday, and I couldn't care less if I got any of them. The only villagers I really want are Jay, Apollo, and Barold. Jay because he's always been my favorite, Apollo because he's always been the runner-up to Jay on my list, and Barold because I genuinely pity him because of how people treat him like shit. Not because they're popular or cute or have a unique personality. It's just because I admire and love all villagers, especially those 3. I don't care if a villager is ugly or not, but apparently no one else takes any of that into account.

“Rare” villagers make me mad. The game rolls by species first then the villager in the species. The octopi are the most common you could say because only having three of them is a higher chance of getting the one you want. Another factor is if the villager is new and doesn’t have an amibo card. Raymond for example is a new cat. Cats have the most different villagers in their species being around 30 so the chances of rolling the cat species on an island then rolling another 1/30 chance for raymond is significantly harder than using an amibo card or straight up buying him. Some villagers sell for more depending on that or else it just comes down to looks/popularity. So, every villager is not a 1/400 chance but actually varies on species.

Idk, for me Raymond’s vibes are just off. Every villager but the new ones can be brought over from New Leaf via amiibo cards, which makes the amount of said villager in islands more common. But you can't do that with the new ones, so they are less common to find on an island since for many it's not worth it to spend 100+ nook mile tickets just to find that one villager and have the possibility to not even find them then. So that would constitute as rare imo. The others are considered rare by how tradable they are. The characters that are "common" often can be traded for little in return if anything at all, the "normal" villagers are ones that are well-liked but won't cost an arm and a leg in some form to get, and the "rare" villagers are the ones that many people universally like, so fewer people are willing to trade and those that do only do so for extremely high prices. Is that stupid? yes. But it works if you're desperate to get that specific villager

Back when the game first came out, I remember all the hype with the 'rare' villagers and I must admit, I got caught up in the hype myself. My dreamies are quote unquote "rare", but I have my reasons to like them. Not just because they're popular. First, Bob: Before I had a Switch, I spent all my day investigating about Animal Crossing. It was my dream, but I didn't have enough money. I came up with the idea of downloading an emulator and getting Animal Crossing Gamecube, and I did that. I always saw Bob and loved him, he's lazy, chill, obviously a cat, purple, I loved everything from him. Fortunately, luck was by my side, and Bob was put in my town. My PC was very laggy, but I logged on everyday to see Bob. He always gived me gifts, and I just felt something special with him. One day, I tried to move my save file to another folder on my PC, and I accidentally deleted it. I felt very frustrated, I wouldn't see Bob again. But, when I created a new save file, and I didn't even know why, because without him I didn't want to play, he was there. He was there waiting for me. He didn't remember me, but he came back. On that moment I was so happy. Now, I have a switch and 75 hours into the game (and i got it three weeks ago). I'm now hunting for Bob, because I'm sure he'll come for me again. Now, Zucker: Zucker is a much shorter story, but I just LOVE him. When I first got into the fandom, (before getting the game) I didn't know about "popular" and "unpopular" villagers, I just saw villagers and found them cute. When I saw Zucker, I thought he was very cute, and just liked him. I put him in my profile picture just because he was _beautiful._ One day, I just started looking for which villager matched my birthday, and surpise surprise, it was him. In NL it was pretty easy getting the villagers you wanted. I remember everyone being like "here is my dreamie list" and people offering up their villagers for nothing (though some say Marshal went for a lot. Idk I never tried to get him so I never saw it.) I was shocked to see how much people are selling villagers for in NH. It doesn't even make sense why their using tickets. The tickets only have one ingame purpose and y'all aren't even using them for that. I get people got millions of bells from all those glitches (though you can get a lot tickets through a current glitch but I guess people are ignoring that) so that's why people don't want them, but tickets still just don't make sense. Ngl, was one of the idiots who bought Raymond for real money because I just couldn't get enough tickets. And I can say it wasn't worth it. I still like him and all but he definitely isn't worth real money. And I feel like there is more joy in finding him yourself. I love watching villager hunts and seeing how happy people get when they finally find who their looking for after all the tickets they spent.

Personally, I love Kid Cat. He's my favorite villager and I adore on how he tries to act tough while having noodly arms. XD I've loved him since New Leaf and I've been playing Animal Crossing since the Wild World days. -I do go back and played Population Growing and both City Folk, but that's besides the point.- Just wish people would take it easy and realize that there's only 8 personality types and they are equally shared among everyone. I once had both Wolfgang and Chief in my town in New Leaf. They're both a couple of wolf villagers with the exact same personality type. I got so bored of hearing them talk the same things. So, while they did stay for a couple of months, it was refreshing to see them go in order to gain a new species and both personality type. I feel bad for Raymond. I know he's a fictional cartoon cat, but I can't imagine someone's design being so mocked and sold out like that. There is no rarity system in animal crossing every villager has the same chance to spawn so yeah Raymond is just extremely overrated

Flak 76 there technically is but it depends in the player, the more villagers of a certain villager type you have the less likely those type of villager will be likely to spawn in islamd tours and such, and vice versa.
