Good job, man! You really tried. But I'm sorry to say this : The W222 still looks better. I don't understand why Mercedes wants this car to be 'lightweight' and 'sporty'. This is a luxury car! It should have some real presence, it should look bold and strong. It should look as if it can demolish anything on the road. Instead, even after you fixed it (nice fix tho), it still looks weak and like an extended CLA (you fixed most of this). The W223 is not worthy of the S-Class badge. I really want manufacturers to stop making their luxury cars look sporty.

It's so odd, I didn't mind the facelift on the E class, at least there was a bit of differentiation between models but the S class just looks awful. New 7 series or A8 over it any day.

They destroyed the S Class. There are 2 trims that exist tho. There is one trim that doesn’t have the silver slats in the lower bumper and there is a trim that does and it looks slightly better but the grille is soooo ugly.

If you have ever seen a bmw light you wouldnt have commented this. Bmw front light have the angel eyes, very distinct formed eyes on every model. This new s-class doesnt have these eyes in any way, shape or form. This just looks like a mercedes headlight but from a cheaper model in my opinion.

PC-Broke They were clear distinctions between all the key classes then. For example, when C-Class was launched, it was not a shrunken S-Class. Go back and check the history before being a smartass. The E-Class in the 90s-2016 had 2 separated front lights, remember? You can easily tell that it’s E-Class with a quick glance. Now all models look the same. Not cool.

I actually quite like the original rear light graphic. It emanates balance and I think that idea of equilibrium encompasses the design philosophy of the whole car. Through the softer creases and minimal use of angles, the body has a relaxed and less uptight form compared to earlier models.

@@danielh3172 certified master Benz technician 19 yrs....yeah I do have plenty of experience with these cars. Reliability is horrible now and QC is horrible. The 270-274 motors are crap. I can sit here and go on and on and on for pages on the amount of problems these cars have and it's stupid stuff too.

ymmij1973 no they don’t. It’s common complaints from haters who can’t afford them. In sum, Mercedes Benz reliability is average. Some models have poor reliability ratings like the A class while others like the E-Class are rated well. 4.5/5 stars from consumer reports.

It looks too BMW like post redesign, but I don't blame you because I honestly feel like this S-Class is horrendous. Usually the S-Class sets the standards for the rest of the line to follow, everything else tends to be derivative of the S, but in the newest the generation, the S Class' styling is clearly derived from the A and the CLS, which is a major disappointment.

@@TheQuirkyGarage1999 Absolutely adore the technology but wish it would last reliably for any length of time. I do agree with the Sketch Monkey about the taillights looking pretty static like the bed sheet example he used. Another way of describing it is when you are surface mesh modeling in a program like Blender, and accidentally drag one of the vertices down. That will create pretty much the same effect.

I agree regarding the rear lights, but you have only moved the problem to another viewing angle. Any triangle that is swept around a rounded corner like this will look symmetric from a certain angle. Also, please note that the rear lights don't look symmetric at all in any other picture than the one you modified. Your modified rear lights will also look symmetric, but not from that specific angle.

The front, the side, and the back have problems. All not well-designed. Either too strong or too weak, and not well integrated at all. In the front, the grill is massive, yet has too small eyes (headlights) and with big gaping mouth (lower air intake & front bumper). The side is so bland, with not one interesting line or unique feature. The back is the worst with no-presence and tiny, forgettable rear lights. Just very disappointed overall.

Maybe I'm not getting it but the rear lights, which I agree aren't strong enough, are already pretty much as you recommend . . . until you move around to that particular rear three-quarter perspective. There was always going to be an angle where that point of the triangle was going to visually bisect the horizontal. It'll look better as the car moves away.

The concept of instant torque of electric is vastly overrated. Cars at these prices can all launch from their highest power rpm. Hence, the same instant torque, without gimmicks

@TheSketchMonkey From a ratios perspective I totally see why you'd want to move the bottom point of the triangle tail light to be less in the middle of the headlight to be more in one of the thirds, but I also think that creates a new problem with the design of the tail light. With the original design, the outside edges of the taillights flowed into the shoulder line of the car in a more elegant way, but by changing their design in the way you did, doesn't the outside line of the triangle lengthen and flow less seamlessly due to it's new angle into the shoulder line, almost creating a new line of itself in the car that doesn't flow into any of the other lines? To me with the overall lines of the car from a side and 3/4 view are more elegant with the design unchanged. Just some fellow designer thoughts.

I mean they just Buy out designers and engineers to improve on the ideas of before,at least Mercedes is innovating Tesla is a cool company but they are nowhere near the others yet.

@@anabang1251 Mercedes said they will have 10 EQ models before 2025, so far: 2019 EQC 2020 EQV 2020 EQA (end of year) What Mercedes EQ do you expect in 2021? They only have 4 years to launch 7 new cars. The only names I have heard are: EQS, EQE and EQG Only the EQE and EQS have been spotted in camouflage. (No, I am pretty sure the Smart EQ and Sprinter EQ don't count)

Design is subjective, but your explanation on the language of design is what's enlightening, and in some cases even more interesting than your creations themselves. Thanks! The reason why these new Mercedes rears look weak is because they all taper in towards the middle at the back, it's most obvious from the top view.
