THE PROBLEM WITH THE HALO 1 REMAKE (WATCH IF UNSURE)

Right fellas, as someone who is *hypothetically* SUPER onboard with the Halo 1 Remake that leaked yesterday, I wanted to dedicate a video to quelling some of the main concerns I've seen people have about the game. I truly think this game *could* (emphasis on *COULD*) be what we've all been waiting for, if done right

9:09 One correction here: Halo 2 was the first Halo game to use Havok. CE used an in-house physics engine that had an unofficial name called "Chucky Physics", named after Charlie Gough, an Engineerling Lead for Bungie. Havok is responsible for things like ragdolls which didn't exist in CE, as well as more advanced physics responses for crates and other scenery objects.

Agreed, it isn't that no-one CAN do this, it's that 343 seems likely to juke in the wrong direction and avoid both the "easy" money AND the harder path of progress. For example the "Silver" timeline... That anyone thinks they might release a narrative timeline with nudity of a character with Darth vader-esque clothing choices that no-one even likes is a question we wouldn't have even considered for the TV space years ago.

Theres a million alternate timelines where Halo remake comes out and its a faithful successor to the original with multiplayer and co-op, and as such becomes an extremely successful product. All the need to do is follow the fuckin blueprint that was laid out for them. I cannot wait to see how they plan to fuck this entire operation up.

One opportunity they could take that was almost in halo 5/was in odst. Is introducing optional flashbacks. So you can play halo ce as is with no extras. But have the option to find helmets like Jenkins of other marines or odsts to relive their perspectives of certain battles. And completing all of them will reward you with a bonus mission or 2 depicting the book events leading to halo 2.

@@markricheard1870 I don't think 'every' idea that 343 had was terrible. At least Halo 4's story was passable, however, I think most agree that Halo 5 Guardians was a mess. I seriously get the feeling that if the remake releases and is a hit, this would allow them to work up the other games remaking them up to the 343 series of games where then they could 'perhaps not totally throw the story's out' but could heavily rewrite and edit it. Think about it, hindsight is 20/20 they can go back and see what worked and what didn't. It would let them fix certain things and perhaps not write themselves into a corner as they did with the whole Cortana arc. This explains why I get the feeling that this would release before any Halo 7 because it might lead them to decide if edited 343 storyline would be better to go with than trying to push forward with the one they have now.

@@Ninja7546 it’s regarded as unfaithful not because of that (we got the next mainline entry the next year in 2012) but because it used reach models for almost everything and the lighting is atrocious on a lot of levels, the beta builds looked better tbh. A more faithful recreation along with extra content from The Flood and other stuff would go hard imo. As for halo 3, the graphics have aged very well it still looks good I just don’t think it really needs a remaster besides the reason of completing a remastered trilogy

Idk man, I think a remake of halo 1 would be more impactful than an anniversary edition of 3. The anniversary games are basically just graphical overhauls, they don't actually change much. A remake of halo 1 has the potential to be such a fresh experience for fans, they could do things like adding first strike to the campaign, a playable odst campaign centered around the odsts from the flood novel, there's so much they can do to make it fresh and unique. I think this has huge potential, whether 343 can capitalize is what I'm worried about .

Things we need for a good Halo CE Remake: - Same aesthetic and art style - Same basic story (don’t subtract, BUILD!) - Halo 3/Reach type physics (Infinite actually isn’t bad, but the vehicles, specifically the Warthog, don’t feel quite right to me) - Music that evokes the same vibe the OG did/does - Blur Cutscenes 🙏 - 4 player Co-Op AND Splitscreen! - A proper and good menu, ideally a perfect remaster of the original with S E X Y graphics - Takes as much time to develop as to get it right at launch - The dev team fully understands the original game and what made it so great - Either very good management or smaller teams to keep the creative vision centered - Do NOT change characters for the sake of changing them, they need to keep the same vibes - NOT LIVE SERVICE, unless it’s as good as Helldivers 2 has done - All content at launch, with maybe DLC “side missions” where you get to see other stuff that happened on the ring during the events of Halo CE - Meaningful progression, if there’s a multiplayer aspect (no battlepasses!), something akin to OG Reach in my opinion - Halo does not need to pander to another audience, it can just be a really good game and not have to copy other franchises (I honestly just care mostly about this issue on the matter of monetizing and marketing and how cosmetics are done) - Keep the weapon sandbox and gameplay feeling the same, with only additions to it being balanced in consideration to the original game’s. I don’t mind the addition of some weapons as long as they don’t ruin the feeling of it. - Also, don’t reduce how many grenades I can carry, I hate that later games made it so you couldn’t carry 4 😔 (adding more TYPES of grenades could be a good thing potentially?) This is totally hopium, but I think it’s necessary for this to properly do Halo CE justice in a remake, and I think it would breathe new life into the franchise that needs a pick-me-up.

That’s why I said it should be a hybrid between a remake and a remaster, where virtually nothing is changed from the campaign, but maybe they add onto it with additional terminals, maybe even unlockable bonus levels, but they cannot be crucial to the story presented in campaign, cause then, they would once again have to make changes

You nailed it when you brought of the physics. The physics are vital to the “Halo” feel. Additionally, I would add the lighting is very important. IMO even Bungie messed this up in Halo Reach as the light was inferior to 3 and thus seemed to be a step down from Halo 3 graphically, just from the lighting (I know character models and facial animations were superior in reach).

I was a huge optimist for Halo for a long time even after all of 343's horrendous flops, but at this point it's hard to even hope that Halo will even produce anything worthwhile again. Just look at Halo's track record under 343. They've given the Halo community zero reasons to trust them. And I know some people like to say "But the old 343 management is gone now!" but that should still leave you skeptical lol. The "new" 343 hasn't produced anything, so until I actually see something I have zero expectations.

Theres alot of events that happened behind the scenes of Chief's campaign during CE. It would be cool if we get to play as Private Jenkins up to the point where he gets infected and we see cutscenes of his transformation in great detail portrayed in the same way like in the novel. I would also like to play as Marvin Mobuto running and gunning his way towards the index. Cutscenes showing Zuka Zamamee preparing to hunt down the Chief would be awesome as well. I sill dont want a halo ce remake. I would rather they progress the story instead of going back. I just wish the flood was the main threat moving forward.

Honestly, I'm with you on this. I'm cautiously optimistic, And I can see where your genuine excitement is coming from. I don't think it's going to be better than okay, but at this point okay would be much better than the slop we've been getting for the past 15 years. My only concern with halo being on PS5 is that i worry that removing the “flagship game” title from it may result in less resources being given to it in exchange for more general customers. That was actually extremely articulate how you described the value a remake adds to story telling elements, ie use existing lore that did not exist when the original game released. Tbh, I don’t mind if the physics changes. Halo CE engine is severely dated, I’d be excited for physics changes on the basis it is new and original, and fits the pacing of the Halo remake. The idea of the entire Bungie trilogy being moved to UE has me excited - if they can nail that then they should be able to create the perfect Halo 7.

Even as a big reader myself, I 100% agree. We need more spinoff games, especially since video game books tend to be pretty poor quality writing-wise. A lot of video game books just tend to be mostly infodumping and not a lot of anything else. For a world literally built FOR games, Halo expanded universe content should include MORE GAMES. It’s crazy that we have sooooooo much lore and dozens of great side stories and yet only 2 FPS spinoff games.

Considering Halo 1 orignally was a Mac-only title (and a real time strategy game as well), later changed to third person shooter and adding PC as platform, then becoming the chopped up (and later levels reusing earlier levels a lot) game we got on the orignal Xbox, I personally have no problem to it becoming multi-platform. What I’d really like to see is something like with the Dead Space 1 remake, conecting the levels together instead of the game clearly being chopped up into single levels, which today isn’t really needed anymore.

To praise the Resident Evil Remakes but also demand no changes to Halo CE's gameplay is ironic. The REmakes were only made to modernize the old games for a new audience. They HAVE to do that with a Halo Remake for it to be successful especially on Play Station. Why would a non Halo fan want a 23 year old gameplay loop that feels so limited in comparison to modern offerings? Movement is almost a requirement for shooters these days and Halo Infinite's movement would work fine in a CE remake. I for one embrace the dream of having a much bigger sandbox with more weapons, more vehicles, more enemies and cool equipment to play around with. This is a golden opportunity if MS doesn't shoot themselves in the foot. Besides, we still have OG CE just like we still have the OG RE games which I still love to go back and play.

CE Remake could be one hell of a game, but imagining a timeline with current day Xbox affect the game by rushing development of it, not fully hitting the aesthetic, changing to "modern" UI like Infinite has, missing content, heavy live service features/MTX, no splitscreen, scuffed/broken servers, etc, I think there's a LOT of reasons to worry. A lot of the issues with modern Halo isn't just from 343 but also from the management of Xbox affecting the games' development, and also games like RE and FF7 and many of these other remakes are from mostly japanese studios or ones that have a lot more backing and consistent care for their devs than anything Xbox currently has. If it's gonna be pulled off well, they'll need to do a LOT to make sure it's the kind of game that can stand next to those other remake titles. And I'm just not sure if it's gonna work out.

Sprint, clamber, and slide are absolutely going to be included. The player movement and pace of combat will probably feel like a Ruby's Rebalance mod/Halo Infinite. My favorite AI enemies in halo are CE, my second favorite are Infinite's. I think the gameplay will probably be fine. I'm more concerned it will be unfinished and will play like the first Infinite gameplay trailer looked.

@@grantlauzon5237 I don’t mind clamber and sliding as long as you can fire your gun while doing those things. I think sliding would actually benefit halo if done right (slide in all directions while being able to fire gun). Slide would just be an evolution over the goofy spam crouch, but a sprint is not needed for a slide mechanic. You should be able to move fast in all directions while firing your weapon simply by holding down the stick and if you press b while moving the fastest in any direction then you do a slide. Slide can act like a form of dodging bullets like spam crouching, but if you slide down a slope/ramp then you get a speed boost. This follows the halo formula where people can move fast using the sandbox provided either by the map or equipment. Slide/clamber can improve the halo formula while a sprint changes the formula. I understand those who find the old halos to feel slow, but I don’t agree with the solution which is adding sprint. I watch the halo 5 cinematic and I feel it shows what a good halo could be. Being able to fire a gun while moving fast. Has a slide. Has thrusters (as a equipment).

@@paulallen2680 I could see that working. There isn't a sprint in Mirror's Edge but there is a slide after you reach a certain speed threshold. In the lore Spartans can run like 30-40mph (in reach,4,5 you can only go 25mph). I think gun play would be weird with a sprint that fast but I think it would be neat if a sprint was used for traversal. You put your gun away like a Battle Royal game and unlock extra speed. You'd never use it in combat but doing so could unlock other mobility modes. Maybe an increased jump height or clamber range. I'm thinking of this from a campaign perspective because that's all the rumors are hinting at currently. Keep The Silent Cartographer the same size and keep base movement the same but when weapons are away you move at double speed to backtrack quickly.
