Just saw this but sobrang relate ako! I was so down few years back kasi walang wala akong gamit. Lahat ng pang pelikula hinihiram ko pati laptop. Lagi rin akong talo sa mga film fest sa school but masaya ako sa ginagawa ko. The moment na nagkaroon ako ng iphone 6+ na gift sa akin, sumali ako sa film festival and guess what? I won! I'm not a filmmaker but I do vlogs about Philippine history and culture. Telling stories. I'm new, I just started 3 years ago and stop for a while, I volunteered working with Nas Daily here in the Philippines to learn. Yes, just to learn from him. No payments, no x deals, just to observe and learn. Naging utusan and organizer later on. I'm still in the learning process. Wala pang malupit na gamit, wala pang malalim na karanasan pero I agree and sometimes nakakalimutan ko na bago ako, nagsisimula, nagmamadali, at nafu-frustrate. Thanks so much Kuya Ryan for reminding me that I'm doing good and the right process. Mahirap pala talaga magsimula sa ganitong mundo, pero sa sinabi mo naalala ko ulit na sa proseso ng pagkwe-kwento ng istorya, kailangan mo rin bumuo ng sarili mong kwento dahil ikaw mismo ang istorya ng mundong gusto mo. Yup this is true and I am using Da Vinci Resolve for 4 years. I'm not a professional editor but I enjoy using Da Vinci in editing short videos and video clips. I'm watching Sir Ryan to improve my intermediate skills in editing... hi. im a 17 yr old filmmaker/hobbyist and gusto ko lang ishare yung experience ko that is very relatable to this topic. typically school projects or project ng banda namin; nag produce ako ng music, and nag shoot ng music video with my groupmates, then ang gear ko lang is yung dslr ng girlfriend ko with it's standard kit lens. for me it's decent, but i always want the best output. so anong ginawa ko? diniskartehan ko at naging resourceful ako. shallow depth of field? lumayo ka sa subject mo tapos izoom-in mo at ayusin mo focus para medyo malalim. hirap sa lowlight? use your phone's flash light and white cloth. hindi kaya mag shoot ng 60fps ng camera mo? then ayusin mo sa post production; slow down mo by 60 and use optical flow just make sure klaro yung bg. ngayong ieedit mo na clips mo, you need a laptop or desktop and an editing software. in my case, may laptop naman ako, pero i can't say na it's decent because overnight ako nag rerender ng 4-5 minutes na music video or any video pa yan. well, it is acceptable naman. ang mahalaga ay functional. about sa editing software, i use adobe premiere pro cc trial version; kapag nag expire, create new acc then download ulit. guys, if you want to be a filmmaker, dapat maging creative ka, not just in filmmaking, but also sa pag maximize ng resources na meron ka. may youtube and google if you need some help. tiis-tiis lang and all the hardwork will payoff. thank you kuya ryan for inspiring me more! lahat ng sinabi mo itatatak ko sa isip ko until maging successful ako. cheers!

PREACH!!! Tama lahat ng points sir! Ako nung nagstart and until now wala akong laptop na matino, 1080p nga lang bagal na ng playback kaya naghanap ako ng paraan to edit my videos. I ended up editing ALL my videos sa phone lang, I also invested on buying the apps I need. From there I learned how to color grade kahit sa phone lang, edit sequences sa phone lang, mag-produce ng video for a client phone lang gamit pang-edit. And slowly all the things get better and better, from the process of creating nag-uupgrade and also along the way yung mga gears din nadadagdagan.

Yes sir exactly guys I'm ofw for almost 3 years now, honestly I have a complete gears. Camera High spec laptop etc. But I will tell you honestly sobrang na iinsecure ako dun sa mga young film makers nowadays Lalo na yun mga mobile device ang gamit and yun mga nghihiram lang ng gears/laptop tapos yung outcome sobrang ganda. Masasabi ko lang swerte kayo ngayon bata palang kayo alam nyu na yun gusto nyu Gawin o tahakin na career. Ako Ito Im starting to love what I am doing like vlogging, Photography and Filming, pero minsan sobrang naka down kasi I feel na Ang tanda ko na para mag start, Feeling ko late nako. Goodluck guys

I really need this coming from an aspiring animator. I had all of those problems you have in this video in my journey. Like I had a mentality that a good Wacom tablet that cost 10,000 pesos will make me a good artist or a good PC that cost 50k like those art youtubers. But as the years go by, so many people used free apps on their phone like Ibis Paint and Flipaclip but their quality looks like professional work. I realized that art does not come from the expensive things but from someone's creativity.

Nice video as always. I'm not as young but consider myself still new to filmmaking/content-creation. I can somewhat afford some gears because I have a day job that i don't like as much but pays me well. I wanted to transistion to something i really like, which is arts and music. Having said all that, I tend to rush things and always get tempted to buy the next shiny object i lay my eyes upon (talk about GAS), only to find myself getting frustrated after a week of purchase. Recently, i just bought a ronin sc eventhough i know it's incompatible with my old dslr. My point is, master whatever equipment you have in your hand. Create a bunch of projects with them first before getting something new. Hone your skills with them so that when you get your next gear, you can be sure that you are really gonna get the most out of it as well because you already have the skills. Btw, i am partly telling this to myself as well. :)
