Yea I agree 100%, the portraits are terrible, and they do the same thing on every statue, are they incapable of showing emotion on their faces? This statue is a massive pass, don’t know why anyone would pick this over a Prime1 Wonder Woman.

That pricing is crazy. I just can't keep up with the rising cost of all these statue companies. I stopped collecting everything and am very selective of what I buy now. I'll be passing on this due to price alone. You're right Gem, that face sculpt is emotionless.

I think it had to do with in-house sculptors vs hiring a bigger name artist. In-house guys are good… but just don’t bring the characters to life

I agree with the lack of expression in their female statues…same with x-23, main reason I went with side show. Wasn’t a fan of this classic line either. Good thing the edition size is so low

You are right Gem, no emotion in that face whatsoever. I think it's because the sculptor didn't have any connection to the character. Just a gun for hire. The price point is outrageous for such a run of the mill piece as well.

Agreed, boring piece and overpriced. It's interesting -- they seem to excel on their specialty lines, such as their samurai series and their dioramas, but their regular line pieces have been a bit blah. However, I do have the Super Skrull on order and am looking forward to receiving it.

The problem with the base and expressionless portrait were some issues for me as well. That base doesn't say "classic" to me. Yeah and it's no surprise with the face. I think xm just loves the stern runway model expressions on their female pieces. Like lifeless mannequins or something. Almost like a fetish for them 😂. Once again the last Wonder Woman Sideshow released still can't be beaten as far as 1/4 goes.

I’m with you on the issues, especially the female portraits. Luckily Sideshow has alternatives for all those X-Men characters that look a lot better for way less money. I do have some XM pieces, but only of male characters

This is good analysis. I would also add that they have really been struggling to convey proper movement in their recent dynamic pieces as well. I like XM and own a number of thier X-Men pieces, but I feel like they are really starting to go down hill lately in this 1/4 scale areana.

XM since the take over and more money pumped in they lost it. What made them is sadly gone. They spend too much time getting statues out, and the forgot the design aspect of things. Since scarlet witch the women superhero is gone down the drain. Stopped completely buying their statues.

XM's problems are way bigger than just this piece. Their art direction has taken a nosedive in recent years. Lifeless portraits, scrappy bases, unnatural poses, weird modern re-imaginings of classic costumes, terrible new releases of slam dunk characters like Magneto and Venom, crazy prices...... they're doing everything wrong at the moment. I miss the old XM. And with Sideshow scaling back it's not a great time to be a 1:4 collector. With Prime1 and PCS tearing it up at 1:3 scale it might be time to finally go big or go home.

XM Studios had an amazing rage portrait on their X-23 that showed on the Spec Fiction mock up photos, but the actual statue doesn't come with it. WHY NOT? It's a fantastic looking rage portrait for the character, why not include it? It would have been a must buy with that portrait, but without it you get the same bland dead expression. Seems to be a continuing problem with their female statues.

XM are no longer relevant to me. I never liked them that much but they have completely lost the plot now. They did have some great statues, don't get me wrong, but their best work was always outsourced to freelance external sculptors, and so they did well despite their lack of internal talent. Now, I guess to cut costs, they're depending on their internal team/ guy, that was always their achilles' heel...

Yawn... another character standing in a junkyard. I love XM but they're in a rut for sure. I have their Purple Catwoman, beautiful and cool base on that one, but the masked portrait is lackluster, and the unmasked is just awful. They just can't nail a perfect piece these days. And on another note, Mark Brooks is a real life d-bag. XM needs to cut that guy loose for any number of reasons.

I think your analysis is spot-on. Their women statues, like many of Sideshow’s in the last 4+ years, have been a letdown.! I think the “Woke” movement, which shows a masculine-like face, that can even be seen as transgender, has really made the statues a hard pass. I just can’t do it! If you are going to put a male-like face on a woman, with large breasts, it’s going to be a tough sell. Like other retailers have found, go woke, go broke. I hope they learn from this.
