Before you even get to a trial in Australia if a kid knows someone at the club they already have a better chance than most kids to make it. Even if other kids have more potential they are still more likely to make the squad.

@@OlantekkersFacts. For myself i trialed at UNSW 2 years in a row as a keeper and the only reason i didn’t make it is because the other keepers have trained with the GK coach at the club and that i train with a different GK coach

same happened to me. Went to Fraser park u13s trials when I was a kid. Played my Fkn socks off. Scored 4 goals in 8 minutes in the trial match against the 2 starting defenders and wasn’t picked for the team. I then went to a soccer camp in the summer that was run by the coach who didn’t pick me! He tried to scoop me up, but dad wouldn’t pay the exuberant fee for a NPL2 club that was very clearly in the mud. It’s unfortunately all about money which is why we can barely scrape wins against shocking AFC teams at a national level. Tom Rogic (arguably Australia’s best current player) didn’t even make it through the youth system here! Most of Our best players in history went to Europe on their own accord and had extremely stellar careers, but the guys who are playing for the national team are a bunch of bums… Australian football is a joke

You spoke facts olan. Prices are way too expensive and players are getting retained every year instead of having their positions challenged by other players who have more potential

A lot of the problems with football in Australia comes from lack of funding by the government compare what rugby, AFL and cricket get to football you will see the lack of money it’s like the government doesn’t realise the interest in the sport. (Great footballer no opportunity)

I coached NPL in Australia for a few years and I also watched players fall through the cracks of an system that advantaged the rich. I always said I was never coaching the best players but only the rich. Before NPL we had a representative system which catered for shadow players,it allowed identified players who played at community level to train and play at a higher lever at no cost . I personally had 2 players (Shadow players) who now play at Wleague level because the old system catered for them. Sadly the NPL system does not. Great video mate

You got all the points of why the Australian football system is so rigged and expensive. I trialled for NPL teams a couple of times, and the coaches only care about returning players or money than looking at players who have immense talents or potentials. I do not even understand why they pick those players because one of them can't even control the ball from any pass. Plus, I watched a couple of games of NPL youth systems; they completely trash like they do not have all the essential skillset. No wonder why Australian football system is flawed as now.
@henrysekzenian74413 жыл бұрын
I’ve been through the npl youth system the whole time so I get what ur saying. An issue can be in England clubs can charge players close to nothing to play which I think is great but the clubs value is so much higher then a-league clubs. In NSW western Sydney wanders, Sydney fc and central coast r the only professional clubs and their income is so much smaller then a prem or any professional team in England. This means they don’t always have much available income to throw at the youth and the a-league players don’t get a fortune. And this is just a-league clubs let alone smaller clubs that rent grounds and what not. Anyway great in sight 👍💪

We produce amazing athletes in Australia and fair to say quite alot of them come from working class families and families with less finances. So many amazing athletes in afl and rugby come from places and families that couldn't dream to afford 2-3000$ a year to play a sport. Imagine if some of the big names in those sports went on to play European football. Imagine if our national team had a few chris Judd's and Gary abletts, a couple eddie betts or even a nick riewoldt in defence. Imagine a cb the same size as van djik that runs 12-15km a game at the pace of a midfielder and can jump 3-4ft in the air. It would certainly be interesting that's for sure.

of course we are lagging behind in football. look at the other sports that we compete in globally, that are globally played. We do well in swimming, cricket, tennis whatever it be. but football we lag behind where we should be. the pricing is just too high, and the way the system is set up, it’s poor for kids

It's probably the biggest problem in Australia thats football development we have such a high participation rate even higher than England per capita. There was one reason by why we haven't developed as good as other countries and that is money. The local associations from your local NPL team through your state Association right up to the FFA are obsessed with money. Even at a under 9 level in Sydney anyway there is over 40 SAP teams with about 18 to 20 players on each paying $1,500 each even if they decided to move to a new system there would be a serious reduction in money coming in for the three Tiers of football. 99% of the kids playing sap level will never even come close to playing even at NPL level. The problem is they don't want to reduce the money coming in that mean a few people would have to lose their jobs.

The SAP and NPL youth regos are used to pay first team wages. It's as simple as that. It's in the clubs interest to keep the rort going.
@georgestarzynski72222 жыл бұрын
Valid points. Way I see it, with a son playing NPL1, is that you don’t see NRL or AFL clubs in the youth age groups like football clubs are. Football clubs shouldn’t be involved in the youth league. The talented football players should be in their local association league where the cost of the better coaches and facilities can be spread across the thousands of players registrations. This way talented kids from poor families can play and progress. Each association could have a 3 tiered level where kids can progress and be developed. I would like an academy system on top of this where grouped associations can select the super talented players and provide them opportunities to represent at a State level. Football is becoming a middle class sport and failing to realise its full potential. I’m sick of aligning myself to coaches just to keep my son in the same team for more than 2 years. Parent coaches should be banned and parents sponsoring the club

The football player base is large in Australia but the top league doesn't get much attention. In other big sports (Aussie Rules or Rugby League) the player base isn't that big but their top leagues generate huge advertising dollars. This means that football just treats their large player base as a cash cow. Other leagues will subsidise the junior leagues with money from the top.
