People mover... but modernize it. A lot. -Central hub, connects to a ring that circles Tomorrowland. -A few 'stations' along the ring -By default the cars just pass by the outer stations, in 'tour' mode (go around the ring, return to central hub) -At any time you can select a station (at least one is by a restaurant), and your car separates from the 'train' to let you off at the station. -Automation allows for empty cars to peel off from the train to 'stock' stations, or if a station has too many cars, send some down the line to return to the hub, or another station. -Faster? hard call - old pace was good for looking around and seeing what tomorrowland had to offer. But not a great pace to get from A>B... Two lanes? makes looking out one side more difficult. -As Tomorrowland is not very big (World's seems a bit bigger / less compact) extend the ring up into Fantasy Land, with a station there - would kinda serve double-duty replacing the skyway. Theme would be a cross between monorail and a fleet of self-driving cars. Or... or - hear me out - Do away with the 'cars', and have it be Wall-E themed with 'floating' lounger chairs.

I would say the biggest mistake Walt Disney made was not buying enough land for Disneyland. Luckily he learned from that mistake in Florida and WDW can keep growing for many years to come. When you go to WDW you are completely removed from the outside world and in the world of Disney. At Disneyland you are plopped in the middle of town like a mall or something.
@vaimantobe30346 жыл бұрын
ReviewsTechNow it's hardly a mistake when you consider Walt had to mortage his house and lend money from who knows what just to finance the construction of his park. He wouldn't have been able to afford a WDW-sized area before his park was surrounded by other businesses anyway

I would go so far as to invite NASA to contribute ideas about the future of space travel. Have an exhibit in an outer pavilion with life size models of various concepts of expected future space ships. That is what one would walk through as they are getting in line for a mission to Mars ride. The ride itself would take people on a journey like one expected of Astronauts on such a mission. I would then maybe add a "Return to the Moon" ride and maybe even a deep space ride where one visits Saturn, Jupiter and their moons and beyond. Then finally a ride to another solar system. Each ride becomes successively more extreme.

I'm not thrilled with the Toy Story parking. I know they've had their issues with the local businesses there, and have had a couple of really good ideas shot down. But Disney can do better with the hand they're stuck with at the moment. The bus drivers from the Toy Story lot are not Disney cast members, and it shows, big time. They can be rude and unhelpful. I didn't do exactly what a bus driver wanted one time and got myself yelled at! A Disney trained cast member would never do that (unless it was an urgent matter of personal safety). The service is also irregular - often with too many or too few buses running. Buy a few buses and clean them up to the usual Disney standard, hire a few bus drivers and train them in Disney-level guest service, and most of the issues would go away.

Miles would replace the Inoventions building with a 3D dark ride with some speed to it. Wall-E, I would put it in the Cptn EO spot that now shows Star Wars movie clips. It would be a 3D show like Muppets where Wall-E shows us all his favourite things. I would change the seats to look like the lazy people's floaties lol. Sorry, I haven't seen it in a while. Wreck it Ralph, actually Sugar Rush, would be used to update the Autotopia. 5 cars per race that seat 4 guests. There could be buttons, 2 in front and 2 in back, to push to go faster instead of pedals. The cars could be like the ones for RSR that don't need gas. Buzz needs a better que line. Star Tours needs to stay where it's at. It enhances the space theme along with Space Mountain (which is probably going to keep it's Star Wars overlay bc it is so popular).

As for your second point...I'm not seeing it. My last trips to Disney World have had 20-45 minute bag check lines, while in Disneyland, I've never waited more than 15 (especially if you go in by the Disneyland hotel. 5 minutes max). @mentaldisabilities18826 жыл бұрын
Higher ticket prices is Disney’s way to combat how crowded it is. If a ticket was still $60 there would be an hour line just to get in a bathroom. The disneyland bag check really is something else. I grew up going to Disneyworld and the lines there are SO fast, like in and out even when the line is long. I recently went to Disneyland, and that was one miserable wait to get into the park. That being said, it was an amazing visit and it only dampened the mood until I stood in front of the train station and all problems went away.

At Disneyland in Anaheim, CA, after the completion of Star Wars Land in 2019, the six Tomorrowland rides to stay in the present forever are Astro Orbitor, Monorail, Space Mountain, The Matterhorn (Tomorrowland version), Autopia & Submarine Voyage. Remember in the early or mid 2020s, if we decide to bring back the New PeopleMover without motorized tracks and if that amusement park is not allowed to do that, they could tentatively remove the whole above ground platform because it is or was super icky!

WHAT TO FIX IN TOMORROW LAND: It's a combination of your "PEOPLEMOVER!!1!" comment and what you said about Disney California Adventure. Tomorrowland needs to figure out what it is. Right now it's a combination of Futurism and Disney Sci-Fi Property Land. Either one would be great, if they could decide on one. But what would I personally really love to see? I'd love for Tomorrowland to be The Future Of The Sixties. We already live in a future way more amazing than the people in the 60s imagined. Sure, we only have one functional space station, no moon bases, and are just breaking into spaceflight cheap enough to get at least some civilians up regularly... but technology is already incredibly amazing. What I find charming about Tomorrowland as a concept is seeing the Future Of Today as seen from the 60s. Buzz Lightyear of Star Command actually fits in extremely well; Buzz Lightyear is a Kirk-style swashbuckler who rides a rocket into space, fighting a cheesy villain whilst wearing a space suit with a laser weapon on the wrist. It's a great example of The Future As Seen From The 60s. And I think that's what it needs. An Issac Asimov feel of a rockets-and-lasers future, where peace is expected but heroes can still buckle swash in atomic rockets in far-flung skies. That would be a theme that would engage me fully.
@ariaalexandria33246 жыл бұрын
When Tomorrowland was started, putting a person on the moon was futuristic. But now, there's nothing other than space exploration that feels futuristic to us. That leaves stuff like Star Wars and Treasure Planet. The "land" stays because it's sentimental to a lot of people, and it is to me as well, but technology has made that "land" something that needs to be replaced. I love your idea of a Tomorrowland of yesteryear, a tribute to how people thought the future would be. The Honeywell 316 kitchen computer was so futuristic (though never was a big thing since it was too futuristic for the time) would be amazing to feature somehow, and all the fashion that was seen as what 2010 would be like, like those circular rings a lá Judy Jetson. I think this would breathe new life into that "land". YesterTomorrowland.

@AutoDMC - But most children are smart enough to know now that the moon landings of the 60s and 70s were totally fake and staged. People today can’t be fooled the same way again. Why don’t they stop with the fake hype of space travel and finally come to grips that the only thing that goes to space is our imagination? In fact, there is no space and just a firmament aka VanAllen Belts. Just sell Tomorrowland as another fantasy land like it truly is. My children just laugh at it all anyhow.

Honestly I feel like Tomorrowland needs to just be based off the 60s and what they thought the future was going to be like. Since Tomorrowland is trying to focus on the future, irs constantly getting outdated day by day. It would be so much easier to maintain, and they could make it really cool if they used a retro space theme. Also, get rid of Star tours. You have an entire Star Wars land now.

The problem with "Tomorrow"land is that technology is moving too fast now. Remember the technology showcases in Epcot's Innoventions? They gave up keeping up with technology because you could go to your local Apple or Verizon store and find newer and more impressive technology not only on display, but available for purchase and use! Given that speed of technology, it would be better to consider the fun of dreaming about tomorrow. I love Carousel of Progress for its nostalgic look at the history of technology--or, mostly, electrical appliances. Maybe I love the movie "Back to the Future" (which is not a Disney movie..it was Universal Studios that had "Back to the Future: The Ride") for some of the same reasons. ...but Toy Story was wildly popular, in part because of nostalgia. So Disney could create looks at the future from the perspective of different decades. What did the future look like in the 1950s? The People Mover. (Yes, bring it back.) What did the future look like in the 1970s? Space Mountain. (Oh, and the city depicted seen on the Tomorrowland Transit Authority at Magic Kingdom.) What did the future look like in the 1990s? Buzz LIghtyear Astro Blaster, maybe? What did (does) the future look like in the 2010s? Good question. Maybe "Ralph Breaks The Internet?" OK, maybe not, but some kind of "on-line" experience? Maybe a chance to talk to a future or past self? ...using voice recognition, "aging" techniques...and, of course, the lingo (invented for the future) appropriate for the day. Of course, they would have to find a way to make it work only there--i.e. they would have to do something that couldn't be recreated as an app that can be downloaded. ...and that, quite frankly, is Disney's biggest challenge for Tomorrowland.
@nn602066 жыл бұрын
Ken Polleck bringing back the monsanto “house of the future” (but made from recycled plastics to be more fitting to our current standards) would be a great addition to your “what was the future like in the 50s” concept :D

That's been a problem in Tomorrowland since the 1980's. I went on the home of tomorrow tour almost 40 years ago and everything they described as futuristic was actually old technology you could go to Sears and buy and Sears isn't even current most of the time.

I think part of the problem is that the exhibits and rides are planned years in advance and by the time it gets off the drawing board and into the park it becomes anachronistic.
@epiclink114 жыл бұрын
This is the realest answer. “Tomorrow” changes so fast that it would be a huge waste of money to try and constantly update the whole park. So they really need to come up with an easily updatable and forgiving plan that will better last the test of time l- like the things you suggest here. there’s no point in updating everything until then

Tomorrowland definitely needs a spruce up. It was dated as hell when I went in the 90's and I can't imagine how it looks presently. - Transplant Star Tours from Tomorrowland to Galaxy's Edge...possibly with the same theming? - Modernize the People Mover...have it function as a way to get around with more stations to get on and off with. Maybe have the stations themed after planets in our solar system? Jupiter/Uranus/Mercury/Mars/Neptune/the Moon. Although you'd probably have to find a way to display "Uranus" without using the spelled out name (because people will vandalize that shit). - A more realistic "space flight" style 4D ride to take over from Star Tours? Put in a few two storey drops and it would feel fun. Maybe have a few modes where you can have different programs/scenarios. - A rotating/conveyor belt restaurant. Order from a themed tablet or device attached to the table. Have a few animatronics serve food/drinks to complete the theme. Maybe have a few "secret menu" items from Pixar films (the Wall E cupcake in a cup is a crazy milkshake, Ratatouille) that requires guests to enter combinations from the tablet/device.

In 2017 during my DCP in WDW, security (or at least for magic kingdom) got a huge update! Instead of cramming 2 little covered pavilion things for bag check they moved the bag check bag about 50 yards outside of the monorail track. Plus they added more security guards. But the only people who use this bag check are guests getting off hotel buses! If you take a monorail, you do bag check before getting on the monorail and the monorail drops you off inside the bag check! If you walk from contemporary, there is a little bag check in between the park and the hotel. Much more convenient 👍🏼

@sylvialudwick9766 жыл бұрын
Walt Disney World has a different bag check system entirely. Instead of bag checking at the gates of the parks, WDW checks bags at every possible entrance to transportation to the parks (i.e., you have your bag checked on the monorail from the resorts, or before you leave the parking lots). It divides the line drastically. Most of the time, there is only ONE metal detector per location and there is never a line. It’s very bare-bones, low-pressure, and I love every minute of it.
@amand_alor5 жыл бұрын
I think the reason bag check lines are shorter, at least in MK, is the multiple bag check points depending on where you are coming from. People who drive get checked at the transportation and ticket center, Monorail loop resorts get checked before they board the Monorail, Contemporary guests have a walk way bag check point, and everyone else on resort buses goes through the main one in front of the park. This really helps divert as many people from the main bag check and from what I remember when I went to DLR, there isn't space to do that.

Tomorrowland, IMHO, in 1968 following the first renovation was nearly perfect. First of all, the architecture was a combination of “The Jetsons”/Eero Saarinen TWA Flight Center/United Nations Modernism, which was quite a departure from anything else we had seen. Despite the awkward name, “Monsanto’s Adventures in Inner Space” was my favorite ride. “America the Beautiful” in the Bell 360 Theater was loads of fun. They even had speaker phones and video phones to play with at the end! The “Goodyear People Mover” was leisurely but fascinating. “Firestone’s Autopia” was expanded, which was great because I got to drive my own car. The “GE Carousel of Progress” was the most amazing experience - the audience rotated around the show! - and you came away with a snappy tune. “Space Mountain” was a few years away, but we knew it was coming. You could see it under construction. The “Rocket Jets” were now taller than ever. And there was a stage with that rose up from the ground(!) playing Rock and Roll music (!!) something we never before heard in Disneyland. When you were done with Tomorrowland, you could go to either the new “It’s a Small World” directly north, the so-called speed boats, take the train to the Grand Canyon and World of the Dinosaurs, or take the Skyway over to Frontierland/Fantasyland, right through the middle of the Matterhorn! Good days, baby!

They will wait til the last second to open them which caused the delay. Florida doesn’t have the same policy. The reason the lines are long is because people actually bring weapons and WE take care of it. We are under so much pressure on a daily basis due to being the #1 target for terrorism. You complain about the lines for security but if something goes wrong then we’re the first ones to blame. I still love your videos but sorry for keeping you safe, pal.

To answer the last question as to how to improve Tomorrowland, I have a few ideas: 1) Bring back the People Mover, but with better technology. Not sure what they could do, but it would be neat to find out! 2) The future of transportation is clearly *not* fossil fuels. Time and past it to make the Autopia fully electric. 3) Remove Buzz & Star Tours. They belong in their own lands. Use the ST ride for an adventure in colonizing other planets, perhaps one of the Cinderella Zone worlds we’ve discovered in the last few years...which would be fitting. Let the Imagineers have fun with the various possibilities in traveling to these new galaxies. And finally... 4) The food. Please, please, please Disney, do *something* about the awful food in Tomorrowland! Bring in some molecular gastronomy, have some hydroponic veggies on display, bring in some new hybrid fruits (for example: the theme-appropriate Cosmic Crisp and Rockit Mini apples). Inject a little science into the dining experience! I think people would love it. It would most certainly be an improvement on what is on offer there now. I know I am late to the party, but I’m on self-isolation (I’m in the high-risk group) and bingewatching these videos once again. Keep up the good work!
