Good looking truck, even with loose steering. I have a similar '97 GMC 1/2 ton. Had to replace my tie rod ends too. They're good looking, reliable old trucks. But one thing I really hate about them is the amount of plastic that's in them. For instance, that lower valence strip under the grille. Give your bumper one love tap and you've probably cracked the plastic valence strip and maybe broken a mounting bracket or two on the plastic grille. And those valence strips aren't cheap. 80 bucks I paid for my second one. Too bad somebody doesn't make a replacement metal strip.

I speak from experience when I say get a alignment. If the alignment was done with bad front end components it’s going to be off even if you put it in the same position. As for the brakes I’d start with cleaning the drum and shoes. If it happens again I’d go ahead and adjust the shoes on that side by pulling them in slightly

LOL - you call that an old truck? 1994 rust bucket here. i just discovered that i need a break job as i was exiting the express way at 70 mph. one year ago while it was on the lift getting new tires, the shop owner said not to bring it back because it is so rusted underneath that it CANT be lifted without the risk that if will fall apart. I guess i got my $1000. worth of use out of it.

just find a common point in the thread of the tires and measure front and rear straight across with a tape measure. The front should be about 1/8" towed in.

That’s the sketchiest way to jack up a truck why not put wood on top of the jack. Also if you can lean on the vehicle and it moves that much it isn’t stable, could fall of the jack on you. Wouldn’t see me getting under a vehicle like that.
