I'm still amazed that the Japanese figured out all these different stones and layers of which the good and suitable stones were for such things like ink stones and water sharpening stones from their rough grit all the way to a super fine polishing stones. It made me look at my own landscape for clues to finding and producing my own homemade water sharpening stones!. Awesome video BTW.

My father was also a collector of inkstones when he was young, fond of gathering various types of seal inkstones. The engagement gift he gave to my mother was a handmade inkstone.😂

The Narmer palette might have been an inkstone. His work looks straight out of the Archaic period where ground stone was a luxury item. What he does is the closest to making an archaic stone axe.

Working in a cave like that looks like one of the most amazing jobs one could get - a walk in the valley/forest, and then some excavating. I've really enjoy old caves/mines (or just being underground). Though I would hate to hand polish those stones :|

@@muffinconsumer4431 I don’t know who your OSHA is, but in Australia that type of mask is not acceptable for that type of work. There has been a lot of problems with silicosis here, resulting in a complete ban of the manufacture of stone counter tops. Admittedly a lot of people were not using any type of mask, but studies showed that the type of mask used in this video was not suitable for this type of work.

@@tuppyglossop222that stone isn't quartz and doesn't seem to contain quartz particles - if it did then it couldn't be worked so easily. Not much risk of silicosis.
