乾燥させておいて、均一に湿らせる分には意味があると思う。 多くの木工において最初に木材を乾燥させるのは、不均一に乾燥したり湿ったりしていると、不均一に伸び縮みする力がかかって割れたり意図せずひん曲がったりするのを避けるためっていうことだとおもうので。

Let it air dry for years and then cook it to make it bendy. Might as well use green wood.

Green wood can twist and cup. This wood was stabilized so that it would remain straight other than where bending was introduced.

@@stevebabiak6997 so will steamed wood. I am a retired shipwright and have bent more wood than most. The reason it didn’t twist and warp was because it was dried in that shape, just like the original plank was dried flat. Air drying brings the moisture content down to ambient humidity, very high in most parts of Japan. Take it into the house and it will dry out more and change shape unless held in place as it dries.

木材は、伐採した状態から乾燥させると、多かれ少なかれ、ねじれや縮み、歪みが出ます。 花や野菜も水分がなくなるとシワシワに縮んで固くなりますが、それと似たような感じです。 そのため、まず大きな材木の形で、これ以上反りや歪みが出なくなるよう、数年掛けてじっくり乾かします。 その乾燥した塊から、さらに歪みが出にくいような場所や向きを見て、真っ平らのきれいな板に切り出して加工をするのですが、乾燥した木材を曲げようとすると繊維がカチカチに固まっているので折れます。 そのため、歪みの出ない状態まで仕上げた板材に、水と熱を加えて繊維を柔らかくしてから曲げる加工を行っています。 伐採直後の木を加工に使うと、まだ柔らかい繊維を食べる虫が来たりカビが生えたりしますし、形を完成させてから乾燥させると、まだどれだけ歪むか不明な材を加工したものなので、乾燥後の製品に歪みや隙間ができたりしますし、形を保てないようなねじれが出てしまうかもしれません。 そのため、材料の木はよく乾燥させてから加工し始める必要があるのです。
