▶Craftsman Profile
Yoichi Negishi / Negishi Industry
Negishi Industry was founded in 1944 by a first-generation roofing craftsman who specialized in shrine and temple roofs. He established the company to produce horticultural metal goods using tinplate. In 1966, the second generation introduced the idea of applying techniques from Sendai to create copper, brass, and stainless steel watering cans, specifically designed for bonsai. He also proposed these to bonsai associations. Since then, Negishi Industry has specialized exclusively in the production of watering cans, dedicating itself to perfecting this craft.
▶Craftsman Passion
"We invigorate all plants with our watering cans, inheriting and preserving traditional craftsmanship."
Copper watering cans feature the antibacterial properties of copper, which make the water less susceptible to spoilage. The effect of copper ions dissolved in the water also promotes the growth of moss on bonsai. To prevent leaves and debris from entering while drawing room-temperature water from containers like rainwater jars, a mesh filter is attached to the spout. By extending the length of the watering can's spout, we provide a watering can that allows for controlled water pressure, ensuring a steady and uniform watering experience.

The watering can is made of copper, right? This is a nice watering can that is carefully made. I think the more we use it, the more interesting it becomes.

Any decent plumber in the world could solder better than that. Hell, I haven't soldered anything in decades and I could solder better than that. Dude needs a different line of work - like street sweeper. And an intervention for his hoarding.

Wow, aren't you great. You do not seem to understand the point of why he does it this way. Any plumber and you and me would use an electric soldering iron. And probably get a quicker, easier result. But this craftsman uses an older traditional method of soldering. He is keeping history alive, and keeps these skills from getting lost. He does things the hard way, for the sake of tradition.

@@wc3415I disagree. It takes a lot of accumulated knowledge to do the work the man in the video is doing. You’re basically saying a skilled plumber or electrician is just a robot, and giving no respect the art and work that they do within their profession. Same goes for this guy. The processes may be basic and formulaic (and I even disagree there), but the skills to do the things required and at a high level is absolutely hard to achieve and worthy of being called highly skilled work.
