It’s a small shop, and nothing is as terrible as some of those 3rd world factory videos… but I’m really surprised by some of the safety aspects of this video. Some of what is shown here would never be allowed in the US. I would have expected more automation, and more organization of the factory’s floor and more safety precautions in a Japanese factory.

It depends upon the volume and size of the spring.. if volume requirement is less than it would be made manually like this.. but if volume is huge and its specifications are under capacities of automatic plant than it can be opted to manufacture in automatic plant.

Whatever way you look at it. These guys are giving their pound of flesh and the Company is getting it's money's worth. This is still a very labour intensive process by today's standards. I hope they are well paid. Me thinks I would like some kind of safety shield when I am sitting at face level in front of the hydraulic press doing the compression testing. It only needs one spring to fail or spawl to fly out and someone loses an eye. Actually I saw no PPE at all except for gloves when handling hot metal. Quite surprising given this factory is in Japan which is normally very safety aware. Maybe I am just an old dude who has seen too many industrial accidents.

@tasteapiana
@tasteapiana 10 ай бұрын
@@normie2716 In the 1980s 60 Minutes aired a special on Japanese corporate life. They documented several companies such as IBM at their offices in Japan. I specifically remember that at lunch all executives met in a conference room to report on their having or not having achieved their previous day's goals. Those who had not met their goals were then told to stand, right where they were, and an employee came to them and caned them across the back of their legs until they could no longer stand. Meanwhile, in the USA, executives earn 4Xs as much for doing half as much and feel it is their RIGHT to get a massive buyout once they destroy the company. That's just executives, but the same mentality runs throughout the USA's workforce. Competing with Japan was perfectly doable after their infrastructure had been nuked, burned, and ransacked by the US military industrial complex. Was.
