Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the "Debit" bit was a satirical take off of "Ol Man River", comparing the life of CPAs to southern black dock workers. See video of Paul Robeson singing it. Self explanatory. "Ol' Man River" is a song in the 1927 musical Show Boat that contrasts the struggles and hardships of African Americans with the endless, uncaring flow of the Mississippi; it is sung from the point-of-view of a black dock worker on a showboat and is the most famous song from the show.

I thought in NYC, somewhere , they have a Broadway history archive. Recent shows have films and recording, older ones have staging, set construction , etc. I think it is available to art? Students? ... anyway I could be wrong. I looked it up, The producers was a movie first, a play at turn of the century, and made to a movie circa 2005... and my library only has Mostel and Wilder movie version. I will say MB received an Oscar for his writing, a n d he had a talented cast for every performance.

Loved this show...but really don't like the prerecorded tap dance sounds they use in today's musicals. It sounds phony and doesn't always match the dancers movements, which then distracts from the show. But that's just me.
@vanessamichaud55966 жыл бұрын
I worked on this show. The tap dancing was not pre-recorded.
@JoeLibby6 жыл бұрын
It may come across slightly out of sync on the video. I saw the national tour starring Lewis Stadlen and Alan Ruck. The tapping dancing was genuine. Those dancers worked hard!
