Quick reference for those wondering: 1. Determine the order of operations - first tasks determine free time/energy levels for the rest of the day 2. Distinguish between background and immersive tasks - do background tasks BEFORE immersive tasks 3. Use placeholders to remember things - these landmarks externalize thought processes 4. Obtain a "finishing mindset" - don't start anything you won't be able to finish, but whatever you do start, FINISH IT 100% for closed loops!

This is probably the most in-depth and informative book review I've ever come across. I almost feel as if I've read the book itself and taken exhaustive notes.

I read this book several years ago when I was a professional cook and some of the lessons really helped me change my life. I wasn't working at any of the kinds of places where this stuff might be mentored into you and i had to teach it to myself. I've also given a copy to my mom and it's helped her some.

You should make a better thumbnail. This video was very interesting, but the thumbnail is not very enticing and doesn’t sell the video properly.
@TerjeBallestad2 жыл бұрын
@@TiagoForte The problem with this thumbnail is that it is a bit noisy. It’s not clear that’s it’s a picture of a book and two chefs. Just make it easier to see and more defined. More glanceable. I think the idea of having a picture of the book and two chefs is a good idea, you just need better photos. You could take inspiration from someone like Ali Abdaal, he makes very similar type videos, often about books and he has very good thumbnails.

Love the format, production value! Even after taking BASB twice and teaching it a bunch, the fact that you anchored this book in real-life situations still makes these ideas tick. Great to share with friends :) PS: Who hasn't been in the "oh shoot, the rice!" situation? 🙈

3:25 Funny you mention the backburner. David Kadavy uses uses the exact same metaphor in his book "Mind Management, not Time Management". You both make use of the principle explained at 4:38 - yet apply it to different tasks, interestingly enough: Your examples are more about setting things in motion for other people to make progress. Kadavy puts his emphasis on creative work, letting your "passive genius" make progress while you are deliberately doing something else.

The bit about the amount of information coded in your environment is also relevent when you move house. All your information is upended and has to be recreated. You need to budget time for this after you move and expect 'life' to take longer until you settle back down again.

I've also seen this volunteering in a homeless shelter and then becoming 'good' homeless myself. I had thought a homeless person was a bit disorganised having trouble leaving on time, but when I was in that situation myself, I could see how your organisation was bedded into your environment and when the environment was disrupted so was, essentially, your mind.

We enjoy having music on our videos but have been trending towards less and lower volume over time for this reason; thanks for the feedback!
@gillianbarker4882 жыл бұрын
@@TiagoForte I'll add a vote for less and lower volume! Some videos need the background music because the actual content is a bit boring. That is not an issue here :)

Cool video, tight and with lots of insights without the (too often present in KZbin) pitfall of delivering with slight condescending tone. Really appreciated. Also, visually nicely done ^^. Lights and background set were on point ! Cheers

Nice video. Extrapolation of best in a business to one's personal mindset or day job is a valuable skill and we should all be adept in it to some degree. It would be great to hear your take on the art of knowledge organization from great artists; something like Maria Popova does regarding creativity in brainpickings.

I've had the best time going through your summarisation process. I'm currently using it for high performance coaching calls I'm getting - took the efficiency to another level by recording the calls and using transcripting software to get them into text. Now doing progressive summarisation so I get value out of my sessions. I've got Work Clean to go through myself but looking ar how much info you've gleaned and represented I'm not sure there's any need to read it for me now! Also the background music on your vids is great. Really hoping I can join the next BASB course, if it's something I can afford. You're having a huge impact on my life right now, it's all information and techniques I really needed. Thank you ever so much Tiago 🙏🏽

I have lifetime access so will be jumping back into the next one - this has also given me the push to finally start a NEW youtube channel - first video coming out soon will be a BASB book summary!
