I had I knife similar to the first one. the camel knife. it was one of the first knives I paid for. it took me a couple years to find out all the knives there are out there. I had just always had the cheap Amazon knives. that's all that would pop up when I searched pocket knives. then I got into balisongs and found Benchmade and all the other high end knife company's. now I've gotten my older brother into edcing a knife. he recently got a spyderco tenacious and loves it. now he wants a benchmade crooked river. I showed him your video on it. and now he wants it even more. love your vids. your one of my favorite knife youtubers. I hope you keep making great videos.

I caught the knife disease four years ago when I inherited 80% of my grandfather's knife collection. Since then it has grown considerably and I am starting to include more and more different types of knives, such as OTF's, throwing knives, and more expensive blades. Thanks for a great video that defines exactly what many people feel in their knife gathering "journey".

Imagine how much faster the sanity ship sinks when, right about the time you're thinking about upgrading that RAT2, the thought also enters your mind, "maybe my folding blade needs a friend, a 'wingman' so to speak... I hear Leatherman makes one..." The rabbit hole goes deep. Because next thing you know your new $80 Benchmade is sitting beside a $90 Wave. And while nutnfancy is schooling you on the 2nd kind of cool that will soon lead to the next rung on the Benchmade ladder, you simultaneously discover that your Wave has a big brother, made of titanium... It's called a Charge... And now you're in so deep you don't know which way is up! The way out of this beast is getting dark. ...so now you need a flashlight. I hear you can get a Streamlight for about 20 bucks... Oh my!

Oh man, that's some good stuff right there. I do believe you have become "CABLE TV's" worst enemy. LOL. And it's almost eeire, how the timing isn't too far off from my personal "holy cow" purchase. You hit it right on the head. Four years ago when I got into knives I started out with the Gerber Fastdraw. My latest purchase was the Sebenza 21 with micarta inlays. I chuckled a little as I have 5 of the knives you showed in the video. Rat, Griptillian, Osborne 940, Para-Mil 2 and Sebenza 21. Know exactly what you're talking about. %^).

Great video. It definitely illustrates my path to knife collecting. My route went from Cold Steel through the Spyderco Sage 1 and then immediately to the Para 2, and then a major leap to the Sebenza 21. Now I've settled into the middle range of knives like the Benchmade 940-1 and the Spyderco Southard. I will admit my favorite is still the Para 2. I carry it almost all the time :)

Oh and my CRK SEB 21 with micarta. (Mid tech)

The slightly larger version of that Schrade was the first knife i ever bought. Its a piece of junk that i still have almost 20 years later and still use to open packages. Long ago lost the clip and the blade is best described as "floppy"... i love it though for all the things its been through and all the memories it represents.

I had a pretty similar story. First knife was a Winchester fixed blade from walmart, but my first pocket knife was a Kershaw Clash. Speedsafe was the coolest thing I had ever seen. Then I got a CRKT drifter, and was happy with that knife for a few years...then came the buck spitfire, ontario rat 2 and 1..then becnhmade mini griptilian as a christmas gift. Then a full size griptilian...then a green 940....then a carbon fiber 940....now a Sebenza is in the mail, Ironically from the same supplier your buddies knife came from.

You said it Rob, mucked about with Ka Bars service knife, carried Fairbain Sykes, army clasp knives, usual bush tools etc way back in the day. Now in these Autumn days of my life I have time to spare on shooting and fishing, british style.I had kept a few blades, just for memories, daggers, khukris, bush machettes and an old Ka Bar swopped for a british army wooly pullover even a frowned upon short cutlass, soldiers are not supposed to carry such weapons, do"nt you know. Anyway I started with the mora for hunting, shortly came spydercos, then cold steels, crkt, kershaws, bucks, enzos etc. Then the wonderfull para 2 and a few larger fixed blades, then the sebenza21. Now I blame you for turning me on to the beautifull traditional folders of America, as you know starting a collection of them, pure man jewels. So on it goes, love it all. Keep up these wonderfull videos, so entertaining.

After spending over a decade in Stage 2, lusting over knives like Benchmades but knowing I'd never spend that much on a knife, I finally broke down and bought a ZDP-189 Delica earlier this year. I collected knives in my youth, pretty young, like age 10-14, I would order stuff out of the Smokey Mountain Knife Works catalog I'd save up my allowance and lawn mowing money and I'd buy knives, my dad taught me how to respect them and care for them so he was cool with me having them at a young age...never really understood my fascination with them that young I simply just thought they were neat. Then came along high school and the need to be "cool" and knives left my life, and so did my entire collection, which was pretty nice considering how young I was, it was mostly cheap stuff honestly.... Now over 20 years later, I needed a good knife to take to work with me for basic tasks so I started shopping, and reading forums, and going on reddit, and so on....and I now find myself obsessed again, only this time its different, I appreciate and understand the work that goes into them, the design, the engineering, and the actual need for a good knife. I have restarted my collection with a new admiration for the craft that is knife making. Its exciting rediscovering something you loved as a kid.

My two 940's are my favorite knives I've ever owned. I'd really like to snag up the CF model, but as I've already got 2, I just can't justify it right now. Hello I am Jerry knife addict sane today by getting over the part of the addiction where you buy into the latest fads or lights bells whistles and sirens knives don't need, and learning the difference between knives made to sell or knives made to buy, and I have made every beginners mistake in the book& Thank God!! I still want a Pro-Tech TR-4 but never again would I buy a Pro-Teck large Don , godfather or TR-3 and as a matter of fact I would probably trade or sell the Godfather and TR-3 to get the TR-4 because I can't get over paying $200.00 each for autos that don't have a safety? Its not likely it would come open in a pocket but its possible? Anyway I still haven't got a Sebenza and probably won't, I am about 6 years or so into my midlife crisis of modern knife collecting and I remember buying a bunch of CRKT and and Smith & Wesson knives because of ball bearings in the pivot of a 2¾" blade CRKT & paying $70.00 for it but if it didn't have the IKBS pivot I wouldn't have paid $30.00 for it? Ohh the madness, and the SOG limited edition whatever knife that came with the San Mai lll 3 layer steel blade and Jigged red bone handle scales and MOPearl thumb stud & paid about $350.00 for it and 4 years later the limited edition is still being manufactured? Well my favorite EDC fight for my life is Spyderco P'kal & @$100.00+ up its a keeper !! Benchmade Nitrous Stryker is another simple but under $125.00 knife I like and the AFO 2 under $200.00 no complaints and my favorite folder to have if I broke down in a Dallas slums @ 3:00a.m. is my Boker+ Jim Wagner mod spear point Kriss chisel ground 440c blade Taiwan made lock back and it is the best $65.00 weapon I own and used with a loop of paracord to go around the wrist its a good weapon closed to strike with bottom of handle glass breaker, impact weapon or top of knife and the thumb stud has a wave type feature that can be used like a hammer to break elbows, knees etc. & it opens one handed using the thumb disk and very slight flick and the blade shape is truly my favorite shaped blade for a fighting knife,, well thats my input, great video and I can relate fellow knife junkie!! 👍 I really got carried away with my comment!! Guess that's a great topic!! LoL

I really, really don't mean to sound self-righteous, but two things. One, not only can I do everything with my fifty-five dollar Case Stickman that any of those knives can do, I can do fifty things none of those knives can attempt. The old times knew what they were doing when they put three blades on a knife. A single bladed pocket knife is just about useless in the woods, and I box cutter will do everything I need done out of the woods. Two, one thing none of those knives will do is feed the poor. I firmly believe in buying the best of anything that I NEED, and that actually does the JOB I need it to do, but I can't in good conscious spend more money when I can do the job as well, or better, for less. But I am really happy you have and love those knives. My life is not your life, and we each have to live as we see fit.

First of all I enjoy your views on knives, but I disagree with you because I have been collecting knives since early late 80s early 90s and I still will never buy any knife more then 150 dollars. In fact I am starting to collect High Value Knives like RAT I. Spending 400 600 or is overspending because I enjoy having 24.95 knife as much as my Spyderco Police Model 3. So why not go into High Value Knives Collecting and enjoy more knives the you do now.

vahram khatchikian Your logic is flawless, my friend. It reminds me of a video I made in early 2013 on the Cold Steel American Lawman. In it I articulated much the same philosophy you do in this comment. And here we are not two years in the future... Let's talk about your comment in the fall of 2016, after some serious KZbin knife viewing. BTW, I've been a collector since the late 70's, and was fairly prudent about it until I found the online knife community. It's infectious!

And I think it's about time to stop watching knife videos. I only have one gun a malady that needs fixing but if I'm not careful I will end up with a lot of knives first and just recently like a multi tool would be the only knife I might have on me. AND YESTERDAY I caught myself looking at a Cold Steel Espada, not exactly a practical well anything. SO what's your treatment for your kitchen blades do you polish them up that fine? or just your choppers and maybe leave the edge unpolished on your chef's knives? I fixed supper with an edge pro edged Sentoku knife last night for the first time (cause I work second don't cook as much as I would like) That 8 dollar knife performed like never before. I mean never before.

why would anyone want to spend 500 bucks on a folding knife when folders are the easiest to lose come unclipped from the belt or pocket? i have found crkt's on the road with a streached outclip that are my score to sell and go buy a nice camilus
