Looks really interesting! I love Mads. Is it "woke" though? it seems the type of movie to have all kinds of toxic anti-western propaganda in it...

@@randalthor6872 There's a clip on youtube of a "journalist" who ask Mads about the lack of diversity in the movie because there's so many white people in it, and Mads just laughs at him, i doubt it is woke.
@adandd11 ай бұрын
It’s a historical drama, how is it toxic anti-western. It is based on a true story of a battle for power and land in Denmark. And if you read the interview re:wokism, while they didn’t do a good job of it, what the reporter was trying to get at is that different countries are held to different standards when it comes to the Academy evaluating films on diversity. Parasite with an all-Asian cast was accepted as entry for best picture while The Promised Land being Nordic wouldn’t qualify so it had to submit for best International Picture. So the journalist was more questioning the academy’s approach to diversity and Mads doesn’t criticize the academy but addresses the diversity issue (I.e. Denmark didn’t really have people of colour back then).

@@praetor47 yes. the Nordic lands were under nobles who constrained their kings (and yet those same kings thought of themselves as crowned by God...) and then lorded it over the peasants and other classes. compare this to England where (at least for the English) a constitutional monarchy kept a healthy tension between king and parliament so that the king could not rule as a despot nor could parliament rule as an oligarchy. If anything things have gotten worse in the modern world as most state and national legislatures now rule like oligarchies "in the name of the people" they know nothing about nor care about. we need a few kings to come back and check the modern nobility we call elected officials. balance.

As a German, whenever I hear Danish i think i understand the first half of the sentence, then the end of the sentence is just blääppüüüüüstööö like whales talking to each other.
@agffans57258 ай бұрын
It's because Danish has vastly more vowels and altering vowel sounds compared to other neighboring languages, so while written Danish may be fairly easy to decipher, especially for other Scandinavians, then spoken Danish is very difficult to learn also for Danish children and other Scandinavians.
@agffans57258 ай бұрын
On the other hand, English is then easy-peasy to learn for a Dane, because we share the same grammar structure and around 900 every-day words, due to the Danish Viking invasion and settlement in the Danelaw. Ironically, it was the "pillaging" Danish Vikings who also introduced the word law itself and the concept of a jury to the English.

I loved it, a historical and biographical film full of feelings. A heartbreaking story of a cruel and classist Denmark, which reveals how social classes divide us and bring out the worst in human beings. A character who does not allow himself to be intimidated and undertakes a battle so unequal that he will put not only his life at risk, but also the family of marginalized people that has formed around him. Ludvig Kahlen is an outcast, a bastard who longs for a noble title, a title that is far from giving him happiness and, above all, dignity. A Mads Mikkelsen who perfectly embodies a man devastated by poverty, misunderstanding and disdain for a solitary life. A man who only hopes to live his dream...serve the king!
