Disclaimer: I’m part of Team Elevation. I don’t agree with the steep learning curve. I personally find the rubber discs easier to learn, because they don’t beat it in. So I can try a disc from someone or I can borrow someone my disc, and I know that it will behave as a new one. I started bagging an Interceptor 2 years before I got admitted to Team Elevation. That disc always behaves the same, and has been a staple in my since the day I got it. Very good video 👏🏼 and great showcase, while being fair.

No way! I just picked up a Golem in their Stayput UV plastic/rubber! It does what the Zone OS claims to do. It gets more overstable the harder I throw it. I'm lucky if I can get 150-175 ft with it. It's honestly been an absolute joy to throw. I can see a lot of uses for it just on my local course. Can't wait to get it out there!

Really liked this one. Never tried rubber. Sold. A quick tour of rubber on six-sided is in order ! Greg, you are too good.

My primary putter (and extras I use for putting league and putting practice) are R-Pro Aviars. I also use them for soft approaches within 100 feet. I use them specifically because they skip and bounce less, and when they hit the chains, they are more likely to stay in the basket, or not go far if they get rejected by it. That said, I have an R-Pro Rhyno that I think got permanently deformed after I aced with it on a 170' hole. I hear it can be restored by dipping it in boiling hot water for a short period of time, but I've been loathe to do it. Side note: your muscular friend who throws, he has the same elbow dipping problem I do when throwing, and that causes excess wobble. It looks like he crushes already, but if he fixes that (as I'm trying to do) I think he'll be able to throw even farther, with less flip up on discs. Regardless, I love your videos. Keep up the great work!

Any advice you can give for fixing the elbow dip? Or any vids that address this? Is it a shoulder angle issue where you just focus on raising your elbow?
@NickCarroll
@NickCarroll Жыл бұрын
@@TheGullibleSkeptic I've been thinking about this for awhile and it largely occurs because I'm trying to reach my arm back at a range that's uncomfortable to me, so the body compensates by doing this. Basically if your upper arm tries to reach a more acute angle than 90 degrees, relative to the shoulder, I think it gets rotated to minimize impingement. I plan on making a video about this fairly soon on my channel.
@NickCarroll
@NickCarroll Жыл бұрын
@@TheGullibleSkeptic I also think more of a wide rail type approach might help, as well.

This was great to see- thanks for putting this together. I really like either traditional plastic that has a tacky surface or a rubber/close to rubber material for the same reason. I throw a lot of fan-grip shots. I just like the feel and get more control when I do. Yes, I lose some distance, but in the woods, I don't mind. In any case, a tacky surface or rubber material really help with fan-grip shots- I'm surprised you didn't mention that in the video! One of my favorite rubber (or rubber-like?) discs for fan-grip approach shots is the Gateway Wizard, in SSSS "plastic". I just love it, but I do sometimes pull it a bit to the right.

I started using Vibram discs pretty much immediately when they arrived. And I fell in love immediately. Trak, Rigde and Ascent were in my bag for years (later accompanied with Lace). I still have the 420 (which became Solace quite fast). I have not felt any problem at all with the learning curve as you described. You should make one episode dedicated to Vibram discs. I do believe there are many ppl who would lend you the discs for that. (I would, but from Europe it would be bit too expensive...) I hosted even the only Vibram Birdie bash in continental Europe (there was one more in UK), which was so far the best experience with organizing such event (many other manufacturers o something similar) from TD perspective. You had your own "e-shop" for the tournament, where people chose the discs they wanted (select 2 out of putter/midrange/fairway driver), huge portion of prizes etc. These days there was only X-link medium and firm (which actually was capable of some skip). The grip, durability, shape memory and manufacturing consistency was (and still is) unbeaten. If you bought a new disc it was pretty much the same the previous one bought two years ago. They of course wore off slightly after 2 or 3 years, but in comparison to any plastic... well, there was no real competition really. They were not fragile at all. I have never seen a broken or punctured disc. They got the best glowing discs, introduced heavy weight floating discs (up to 160g) and the flight characteristics were very similiar for light and heavy discs. Altogether I still see as a very bad decision to stop the production even though the quality in last years (after Steve Doge departure) went bit down. But the discgolf at that time was just before the big boom and for Vibram it was very insignificant part of the business. Still I hope they will come back as they were imho way more interesting than the current rubber disc production at least from what I have tried so far.

Did not know that any company makes rubber discs or that the material goes back decades! Really interesting video; I’m going to check out Elevation discs, especially the Binx.

I bag an arowana and I absolutely love it! It’s my go to for long putts or up shots that have a potential for roll aways or sliding way past the basket. It has most definitely saved me strokes.

Hey Greg. Great show. I love your channel. I have been bagging Blow Fly 1&2 for decades. I use them for specialty shots, often upside down. Super versatile, dependable and wind resistant. I don’t leave home without them!:)

I love rubber discs! Specifically the great neat colors of Elevation ones. My favorite is the ecoFLEX Arowana. That disc actually transcended favorite rubber disc into favorite disc ever for me! I throw it off the tee forehand and backhand AND putt with it. Highly recommend.

I am no pro, but had a zero leaning curve with the Elevation OG Koi (wonders why you have a learning curve)? It flies straight and seems to even handle wind pretty well. Many of the discs are under-stable so they actually fly better for new and experienced players better than the average plastic. I took it out last weekend and it quickly became the group putter. Everyone wanted to use it. Elevation is a great company, and very customer friendly. IMHO has one of the more accurate flight ratings since they rate each material, unlike plastic.

I still have quite a few Vibram discs. I really like them. The Ridge feels like throwing a frisbee, almost. Within 120’, I just take it out, pretend I’m playing catch with the baskets and most often get very close. I also have the Vamp and Valley, which I think are 7 speeds with slightly different stability. These are in firmer rubber and have been played regularly since about 2017. I have the distance drivers (O-lace, Lace, and Onyx) but other discs work better for me at the moment. I hope Vibram does get back into making discs. Thanks for your video, I wasn’t aware of these other rubber disc producers.

my first rubber disc was a DGA Gumbputt its such a fun catch disc to warm up with. Dynamic discs Classic Soft is pretty rubber like, while still being fairly rigid. classic soft judge, cs emac judge, and a cs deputy. only 4 i have out of a hundred. Love DD Classic Soft when i don't want ground play.

I have only the blowfly but I would add: These discs throw different as you have to control the discs for the most part on the rim itself with less or no pressure on the flight plate. Personally I have not found they have more staying power as this has more to do with "touch" than plastic vs rubber. Durability has been great. One pro is they make great warm up or "catch" discs and much less likely to cause injuries. As the disc is a few years old now and the rubber is getting a bit stiffer it is not tolerating the inevitable flexing or outright deforming of the disc when people inevitably fold it into a ball for example.

I think a big pro to rubber discs is that (when it's not freezing), they get very nice soft tree kicks. A lot of times when there's a green with a lot of trees I'll pull out a koi to minimize backward movement off of a tree.

I use an Ecoflex Koi as a utility putter. If i have a death putt where i am worried about running it due to roll aways etc I get out the Koi and i can safely run the putt. Also great for soft bids at elevated baskets. Less likely to land badly if i miss and roll away.

Perhaps the most popular rubber discs are all the rubberblend Discraft discs. Those runs do decently well, especially because they often have some player's name on them. I suspect Jawbreaker has rubber in it too, which would make it the most popular rubber line, but I'm less confident about that.

I got my first Koi a couple weeks ago. It's weird, some days it's awesome and other days it just doesn't want to fly right and is very unforgiving. When it's good, it's really good. I can throw it farther than any other putter I have. Not much margin for error on the throws, though. It is super straight, even straighter the the Glitch!

Softest disk I have is Soft Magnet. It’s been doing great in circle 1 puts but circle 2 and farther I have to throw it harder and then it just turns into jelly and kinda stops in the air half way. It’s probably my technique since they’re making mid ranges and even drivers with greater softness.

i bag a Golem in glow plastic. i use it for approach shots where i need something overstable with no ground play. Actually threw it in from 100 the other day on a flex line. It gets bagged next to my pig and my justice for OS approach/scramble discs.
